5 Trade Deadline Possibilities
Vince to LAC?There have already been a ton of moves made this season, but with tight races on both coasts, there’s room for more. SI’s Ian Thomsen throws five trade deadline possibilities out there, in order to turn possible contenders into real players, while securing the fate of others in the lottery.
1. G Vince Carter to the Clippers; C Chris Kaman and G Eric Gordon to the Nets
2. C-F Rasheed Wallace to the Hornets; C Tyson Chandler to the Pistons
3. C Brad Miller to the Cavaliers; G Eric Snow and F J.J. Hickson to the Kings
4. G-F Anthony Parker and F-C Nathan Jawai to the Bucks; G Charlie Bell and F Austin Croshere to the Raptors
5. F Joe Smith to the Nuggets; G Chucky Atkins and a first-round pick to the Thunder
Which of these deals makes the most sense, and why?

neither does #1. the nets are committed to brook lopez and only the clippers are dumb enough to have two pure centers who both deserve to start on the same roster.

#1? I understand Devin needs a backup but Vince? He and Harris are the only ones who score on that squad.
#2 doesnt either. You cant expect Rasheed to play against centers (esp in the West). Except ure expecting him to back up David West.
#3? Brad Miller AND Z? They do the same things.
#4. I’m not sure who that’s supposed to help.
#5. this i can maybe see. But isnt foward the nuggets strongest position?

Kudabeen says:
I can see number 5 with a 2nd rounder, but I can’t see the rest happening…And I’d think Thunder can get a bit more for Joe Smith than Chucky…Thunder should be able to get a younger 2 guard with promise…
December 29th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
DJ Go Go Gomez says:
The Cavs should make that move. They should move Wally instead tho. They have enough shooters. Brad would be a perfect back-up for big Z because of their similar game. Plus he’s a better passer so the 2nd unit guys would get better shots. I also think he’s the perfect compliment for Andy V on for their 2nd team.

George W Kush Sr says:
Seriously, #3 and #5 make cents, but them other ones are need some explanation. Why trade away your only perimeter defender in Parker for a backup PG and Croshere? That would leave the Raps with 4 Point Guards, Calderon, Soloman, Ukic and Bell, wft?

You should try the King’s Chicken Strips, or the Colonel’s Chicken Fries. Its like trading a guard for a lanky forward.

Brad Miller to Cleveland. Gives them some what of another scoring threat in the paint
December 29th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Pioneer says:
The Cavs wouldn’t trade Hickson in any deal that involved only Brad Miller. That rumor was thrown around by a Sacto columnist and promptly shot down by Cavs beat reporters. The Cleveland front office wouldn’t even consider it.
If Joe Smith gets bought out – not unlikely – he’ll end up in Cleveland again.
December 29th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Phillyfanatic says:
I got to go with #3…the Cavs could use the extra post threat and with Miller’s expiring contract (I think) they’ll have some extra cash to make a move that will keep LBJ in Clevland. Miller could also give them a legitimate second unit as well. Snow is just collecting a paycheck and they could afford to off Hickson now.

UncheckedAggression says:
I can’t believe what I am seeing. You guys actually think Brad Miller is a decent player and he would make a team better? Seriously!? That guy is COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. The last thing the Cavs need is a pussy on the inside that refuses to play D. The Kings should have gotten rid of him when people thought he was good. Now people know and the Kings are stuck with him. The Cavs are committed to defense and there is no way they would be willing to play 4 on 5 on D just so they could have another guy to distribute sometimes and hit wide-open midrange jumpers on offense.
Luckily the Cavs organization isn’t as stupid as most fans.

Why on Earth would the Nets trade Vince? He’s one of only two guys who can score. They will probably make the playoffs right now, but if they trade Vince, forget about it.
This sounds like bullshit. At least I hope so.
December 29th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
Mr. A says:
All 5 of these trades, the SI writer bullshitted BIG TIME. No basis in fact for any of them, if I had to fashion a guess.
Anyway, Hickson’s going to be boss in a few years, I would envision that he’s untouchable in any trade not involving CB4…

Yeah why would the nets trade Carter, it would only make LAC a better team and it does nothing for the nets.
This is a stupid article, most of these trades do not make any sense!!!

Hickson for Miller makes sense. bring ben wallace of the bench.
Rasheed for Chandler makes sense. Rasheed is a true post presence while David West shoots from 15 feet. Chandler will hopefully resurrect his game in Detroooitt’ along with the D’

Kobeef says:
#1 – NO – The nets really don’t want or need Kaman who has a big contract and is always injured. Also, Vince is working out kind of well with Harris.
#2 – NO – Possibly the stupidest trade suggestion of the bunch. Chandler does exactly what the Hornets need him to do – rebound and block shots without expecting to see the plays called for him. Rasheed’s contract expries at the end of the season and I can’t think of why the hornets would give up and top 5 young center for Rasheed.
#3 – YES -Miller needs out of Sactown and Cleveland needs a real PF instead of Ben Wallace who is really a bench player at this point.
#4 – Who cares? Seems like a completely pointless trade.
#5 – NO – The thunder can get a lot more for Joe than Atkins who would be a third string PG (after Westbrook and Watson).
