Adam Morrison is “Irrelevant”
Adam with a copy of China Dime last yearAfter not playing in three of his last five games, and tallying just 12 minutes combined in the other two, the Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell dropped this today about Adam Morrison:
Adam Morrison’s recent circumstances – the guy has not played in three of the past five games and totaled 12 minutes in the other two – had me flipping through an NBA draft guide.
I wondered the last time a top-3 pick was this irrelevant. The Bobcats chose Morrison third overall in the 2006 draft. Keep in mind that was destined to be a weak draft because it was the first one where U.S. high-school seniors were barred from turning pro. Also keep in mind that Morrison missed his entire second season, due to a knee injury.
On the other hand, the Bobcats passed over Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay to select Morrison.
Oops.Morrison is a non-factor on this team, and that has nothing to do with missing last season. Coach Larry Brown has played Matt Carroll ahead of Morrison of late, and while Carroll doesn’t play much (or particularly well), he offers a slightly wider skill spectrum than Morrison.
More than one person who’s worked with Larry Brown cautioned me Morrison wouldn’t work out here. Adam simply can’t cover the court Brown expects of his wings defensively, and he’s not dynamic enough offensively to force Brown to overlook his liabilities.
MJ conspiracy theories aside, the Roy and Gay misses are particularly painful if you’re a Bobcats fan, but you have to think Morrison can find a niche somewhere in the League right? Is he in a J.J. Redick situation where a change of scenery might what’s needed? Or can he just not play at this level?

The Anti-Gerald Green. Has all the effort in the world, just doesn’t have the talent. (See the difference?).
Trade him for Gerald Green then!

Only thing I remember about Morrison was him collapsing on the court and crying in the NCAA tournament.

that's whats up says:
he needs to play on a crappy team and get buckets.
….oh wait….
well, if his hair is still long he can shave the stache and get a starter spot on a WNBA squad. They all ugly anyways

he’s more like the anti renaldo balkman-no offensive ability-all effort vs morrison- who can shoot(sometimes) and nothing else!

Is it just me, or does Larry Brown totally kill more people’s careers than anyone else lately? Every team he goes to some young people who might or might not be good seem to sit on the bench. I bet if he was LeBron’s coach, he’d limit his minutes too (oh wait, he DID do that…).

He’ll be in Europe in a few years. I never thought he’d make much of an nba player, and he’s actually worse than I thought he would be.

JCARR says:
Adam blame it on the recent season ending injury. That’s his only excuse. The NBA is more iso and less team oriented. Send him to the D-league.

Morrison was supposed to draw fans, but Roy would have earned fans with skills and Ws…
Horrible choice and it set them back for years…To bad Bob Johnson doesn’t know Basketball and Larry Brown doesn’t know talent…Credit due for Augustine…I thought he was a lame pick, but aside from that they have blown many moves.

Mr. K1X says:
good talent, wrong situation. he can definitely play.
@everybody. b-roy is a beast, but hmorrison was the smarter choice. the team has to make the commitment to making a player valuable. give a talent minutes and the green light and watch him produce.
Bobcats shouldnt be contenders with thier group but they could be better. Larry Brown is just not good for the NBA, he only went to the Finals because of AI

Morrison and Reddick were both great college players. But I thought it was very clear that both were relatively one-dimensional and would not translate to NBA stardom. They were products of media hype and really, neither should be in the NBA for much longer.
December 29th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
BROGDEN says:
He only went to the Finals b/c of AI? DUH! It took coaching and coaching ALONE for that overachieving group to even shake hands with Kobe and Shaq before Tip Off.
Plus, didn’t the Pistons display the true embodiment of TEAM when they made a run under Brown?
I agree Adam needs minutes and grooming…a different situation may help this. But the cold reality is, he’s probably not a fit for Larry’s system. Today’s NBA is loaded with EXPLOSIVE talent. Adam has NO EXPLOSION whatsoever.
NO EXPLOSION = NO TICK
But he does bring his hard hat to work EVERYDAY. He’ll be alright…
At least Carrol is 40% beyond the arc.

dude was always limited in his skills set. the difference between him and roy as four year college players is that roy actually made his game eveolve every year while morrison REFUSED to diversify his game. he had a team around him and the gonzaga coach never really prepared him for the next level. euro bound i say

Larry Brown won with Detroit because he was handed Rick Carlise’s team (which almost won it all the previous year) on a silver platter in a move only outdone by Riley’s title heist in Miami. Plus the Hawks gift-wrapped Rasheed to take Detroit over the top. His achievement with that Philly bunch was more impressive.
