All LeBron, All Day (12.30.08)

For LeBron James‘ 24th birthday (Dec. 30), NBA TV is having a 24-hour LeBron marathon. 24 Hours of LeBron presented by Nike starts at 1 p.m. EST on Monday, Dec. 29, and concludes with a live broadcast of Cavs/Heat at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday the 30th.

The schedule includes a replay of LeBron’s first NBA game; Game Five of the ‘06 Wizards/Cavs series; Game Five of the ‘06 Pistons/Cavs series; his first nationally-televised high school game; Game Five of the ‘07 Cavs/Pistons series; as well as a handful of special shows/documentaries focusing on LBJ leading to the Cavs/Heat game.

Too much too soon? The only other time I’ve seen something like this was when Larry Bird turned 50 and NBA TV had an all-day Bird marathon.

If you could control NBA TV for a day and dedicate that day to one player, who would it be and what would you put on the air?

Thank God!!! He’s barely gotten any coverage all season.

  2. Three Stacks says:

Lebron must be happy, the Yankees just signed Teixeira.

  3. Austin Burton says:

Now I’m waiting for that one dude to comment that this somehow shows Dime’s institutional bias against LeBron.

  4. dano says:

I think the lebron dedication is a good idea, i mean, didnt he drop twenty in his first game? and didnt he have the game winning shot in all those playoff games? and everybody knows about game five against the pistons where he dropped the last 25 for the cavs.
but if i had to pick somebody else, i would make a list:

tim duncan – because he gets no love for being the best power forward ever, and there are all the great games against the lakers and suns

kobe – because hes kobe. the 81 point game. 65 points in three quarters. the playoffs against the suns, kings, and spurs.

hakeem – people forget that he was one of the greatest centers ever.

and then maybe, in no particular order, charles barkley, steve nash, KG, dwayne wade, jason kidd, dominique wilkins. most of those are based on pure highlights though.

  5. dagwaller says:

    Hahaha, Austin, I’m with you.

I’m just afraid of what they’re going to do when Dikembe turns 50…not sure I could handle two days plus of finger wagging.

  6. Sho-Nuff says:

    NBAtv takeover sponsored by Nike.

    True Lebron fans never Kobe.

  7. mules says:

To answer the question posed at the end of the post: I’d show a few hours of D-Wade whining to the refs when a defender so much as breaths on him followed by a few hours of Shaq getting hammered in the paint with no foul called…I’d make it required viewing for NBA officials.

  8. srb says:

    Paul Pierce

  9. Isaiah says:

Thirty eight days of Shaq when he turns thirty eight.

  10. Isaiah says:

Thirty seven days of Shaq when he turns thirty seven.

  11. Austin Burton says:

In order, I’d go with Gary Payton, Reggie Miller, Shawn Kemp and Tim Duncan.

    PAYTON
    - College game (I saw one on ESPN Classic where GP had like 40 against Bo Kimble’s Loyola Marymount squad)
    - First NBA game/start
    - WCF Game 7 vs Utah
    - ‘96 Finals, one of the games Seattle won.
    - Playoff game vs Warriors where he tossed an ‘oop to Kemp that was either the game-winner or the dagger.
    - ‘99 vs Clippers where he had career-high 8 steals
    - ‘06 Finals clincher vs. Dallas
    - ‘97 ASG where GP had 17 pts, 10 asts

  12. hoopsguru says:

I would like to see an all day jessica alba-thon!

Seriously though, the big cheese (stern) must be suckin some major Bron nutz with hopes of him coming to NYC, this is getting stupid, all bron all the time!

  13. Blue says:

the whole 24 hours of lebron thing is pretty lame! what has lebron accomplished in the league that other guys before him haven’t? kobe’s been an MVP and has 3 rings. D-Wade who entered the league at the same time has a ring and a Finals MVP. c’mon…can’t the league at least wait until lebron does something?

i’d have a day to Magic. his days with ’showtime’. his rookie season in the finals. being on the dream team. a highlight reel of his top no-look passes. all up to his retirement.

  14. it ain't easy being green says:

I’m a bron fan as much as the next guy but this is a bit much. Stern needs to remove lbj’s nuts from his chin ASAP. Untill he gets a couple of chips he shouldent get a whole marathon. I know it’s Christmas time, but he ain’t ralphie

  15. fallinup says:

“I would like to see an all day jessica alba-PORNOthon!”

post fixed. don’t ever let it happen again!

  16. JCARR "K1N6" says:

    I would show Pistol Pete

  17. Dagomar says:

    Magic Johnson
    Larry Bird
    Bill Russell
    Dr. J

  18. Celts Fan says:

Can’t knock it, dude’s on pace to be one of the 10 best ever and the best 3 ever (on pace, NOT THERE YET.) Can we get a legit age check though. I just don’t buy that he’s really 24, he can’t be…

@Dagwaller (post 5) NBA TV wasn’t around 10 years ago when he turned 50.

    My 24 hour dedications:

Dr. J – cuz the youngsters forget (and even I didn’t get to see him, but pops was in Va. for a while and went to tons of Squires games. this guy revolutionized the game and basically invented the high-flying style- along w/ David Thompson – that we take forgranted today.)
Oscar – cuz I haven’t seen enough of him and I’d like to see more!
Magic – versatility personified. Start w/ the greatest game ever played (his chip-winning game when he started at center and put up something like 43, 15, and 7)
    MJ – cuz why not
GP – cuz people honestly argued he wasn’t a top 10 pg of all time, I say he’s barely out of the top 5. one of the best defenders ever. If they have any tapes of him mic’d up for a game, you wouldn’t be able to turn away. if that dude talks (and he never stopped!) you gotta listen.
AI – dude’s style doesn’t help teams win, but he can sure as hell put on a show! Start w/ the MJ cross-over, splice in the “practice!” quote after he dusts any scrub, and just show highlights of him dropping 50 on team after team.
Moses Malone and Dikembe – no basketball shown, just them talking!

  19. Will Purdue says:

Lebrons response to David Stern after hearing the news that this 24 hour bullshit-a-thon would occur:

Stern, nigga, tell me how my nutz taste!!

  20. UncheckedAggression says:

Guys–it’s just a special on some channel that very few people watch. Doesn’t really matter who it is about, as long as it shows some good games and gets people to watch. Besides, Lebron came into the league hyped more than anyone in history. And so far he has lived up to it.

I still can’t believe some people try to unfavorably compare Lebron to Wade.

  21. jeremy says:

    i’m gonna throw up

  22. Mr. A says:

First of all, I’m a huge LeBron/Cavs fan.

However, when I heard about the biography movie he’s planning on putting out, I nearly threw up in my mouth.

The man’s only 25 years old – he hasn’t accomplished jack shit yet. Furthermore, he hasn’t done anything significant that hasn’t been completely beaten to death by the media.

My God! Even his eye-surgery last summer was all over the news!

  23. MOVEZ says:

    kobe too

  24. Celts Fan says:

@Mr. A – dude’s been recognized as the future of ball for a long ass time, and been supposed to be a superduperstar since he was a freshman in college. The shit he (and OJ Mayo) have probably seen and heard should be told cuz I’d be interested…

  25. doc says:

Bron getting that paper.I like it we need some more blacl billionaires.

  26. Tres says:

    LeBron is amazing!

    http://www.squidoo.com/LeBronJamesDunk

  27. Mr. A says:

    @Celts Fan

You’ve heard every criticism and praise of LeBron endlessly. Every time the man cuts his toenails, it’s the top story on ESPN. Every time he watches a Yankees game, the city of New York has an aneurysm. Once he does something with his life besides play a children’s playground game for obscene amounts of money, then I’ll be interested in watching his autobiography. I see his movie every other night when I turn on FSNOhio and watch a Cavs game. There is nothing of interest they could put into a movie that hasn’t been played on FSNOhio, ABC, ESPN, NBATV, and as far as “stories” go, Google some, I’m sure you’ll find about a thrillion articles concerning his oh-so-hard “trials and tribulations.’

Love his game, make that I REALLY love his game, but the man’s ego is unhealthily large.

  28. jones says:

LeBron is not the future of anything until he wins an NBA finals. Getting swept by the Spurs doesn’t make you the future of the NBA.

Please stop buying the hype until the man-boy has actually accomplished something worthwhile. By the way, winning one ring won’t make him the future of the game either. A lot of people have rings and they are not automatically named the future of the game. Sheesh…talk about unearned hype!

  29. UncheckedAggression says:

C’mon, jones. Get over it. He isn’t just the future–he’s the present. I think the majority of NBA fans are finally starting to realize it, but a few of you just won’t accept it.

@jones again: Would you prefer that LBJ won 3 championships as a support player first? Then run the best player on the team out of town so he could selfishly lead an average team?

  30. C Dawg says:

To all these clowns askin for a Tim Duncan marathon the viewer rating will be 2. And NBA TV executives will be fired.
