Breaking News: Corey Maggette likes to shoot the ball

Corey MaggetteCorey Maggette

If I hadn’t been beaten to the punch by Dime’s “Top 10 Jackers” list, Corey Maggette would have been the headliner on my NBA All-Ratchet Team, a.k.a. The Corey Maggette Shooting Stars (along with Mehmet Okur, Daequan Cook, Derek Fisher and Antawn Jamison in the starting five, and Damien Wilkins as the sixth man).

Maggette is currently averaging 19.7 points per game, hitting a career-low 42% from the field and a putrid 17% beyond the arc. And according to SI‘s Chris Mannix, the Warriors — losers of seven in a row going into tomorrow night’s game at Houston — are already regretting signing Maggette to his monster deal this offseason:

Five games, five Golden State losses and a more than 2:1 turnover-to-assist ratio. Maggette’s selfish play hasn’t gone unnoticed by other players. According to sources, after the final buzzer against Boston, Celtics forward Kevin Garnett turned to Maggette and shouted, “Way to get your numbers.”

“He just puts his head down and goes to the basket,” an Eastern Conference scout said. “He doesn’t even look to pass.”

Unless they’re vying for a Bay Area playground ‘chip, it’s looking more and more like Golden State will have to make a move around the time Monta Ellis gets back, or else there will be inevitable issues with Monta, Maggette, Stephen Jackson and Jamal Crawford all feeling like they need shots.

If you’re the Warriors, do you look to trade Maggette this season, or try to deal someone else?

No ones gonna want Maggette after seeing the show he’s running in GS.

  • fallinup

They knew what they were getting. And losing your only viable distributor (BDiddy) to get Maggette had to be one of the biggest bonehead moves of the off season. But this is Golden State we’re talking about.

  • Michorizo

Maybe he just needs a talking to…

  • fallinup

GS was better off just holding on to that cap space instead going into a panic and signing that schlub.

  • PWEEZY

keep giving him the ball til he’s full LOL

  • YOUNGFED…

Good lawd the warriors are probably the 1st team in the history to have 4 ball hogs on one time

  • got them..SCOOBY DO’s

    This is not breaking news….

    ….typing way to fast

Roger Mason, Jr. > Corey Magettee

Good luck GS on the rest of the season

Since when is this breaking news…. everyone over shoots in GSW.Trade maggatte while his value is still high.

“He just puts his head down and goes to the basket,” an Eastern Conference scout said. “He doesn’t even look to pass.”
    Is this Don Nelson’s fault?!?!?

I am not a scout and i could of made that statement. Jackson is the only one who has taken the resposibility to share the ball and become a playmaker.

  • dat dood

i am a die hard warriors fan and so far the only people that are looking to distribute this season are cap. jax, and cj watson. every game i watch i sit back and wonder why maggette who can get to the free throw line easily 12 times per game continues to jack up his awful 3 point attempts. I am just dreaming that the warriors and clippers can work out some sort of deal that puts baron and corey back where they belong.

ps i’d like to see the squad run a stating five of biedrins, turiaf, wright, randolph, and jackson. run a zone on defense and make teams beat them with the three ball. maybe they could finally get some rebounds with this lineup???

He’s still young, he still got game. The right coach, a tough coach, could still save his career. It aint Don Nelson though.

  • Richard Wellner

You know you’re in trouble when Stephen Jackson becomes a leader on your team and is actively looking to get others involved.

This ordeal speaks volumes of Don Nelson and all the players under him. But also, Stephen Jackson, who is, surprisingly, making the best of a bust situation.

  • ERIC

Once again, KG being a punk and has to make loud obnoxious comments/taunts.

We talk about Stevie Franchise’s fall from grace/skills..but how about Garnett’s fall from much-loved to much-hated. what a dick.

in other breaking news, the sky is blue and water is wet.

  • MSkittle

He’s just in a slump. He’ll break out of it soon.

    New breaking news-pussy feel good.

Corey Maggette is a geat 6th man for instant offense off the bench, few are better at drawing fouls, but he is too injury prone, too poor a defender and too big a ball hog to start. He has trade value, but not at that contract. Good luck dealing him with almost the entire league trying to get under the cap for 2010! Try to trade him to the Jazz, they’ve been after him for years for some reason. If anyone can straighten him out it’s Jerry Sloan. Maybe Magette, Brandon Wright and a Pick can finally free Kirilenko, I’d love to see what the AK-47 does in GS, that could be ridiculous!

  • itsakademiks

lol@ post 13 son been in the league how long now?? its a little too late to be using the “he’s still young cliche” he is what he is and been that way since duke.

  • jamal

deshawn stevenson needs to be on ya all ratchet squad
    at least jamison makes buckets

  • fallinup

Corey Maggette is 29 years old. I think it’s what you see is what you get.

  • Promoman

Well, the Warriors are a team full of ball-hogs and have been before C-Mag got there. Maggette shouldn’t be singled out.

“Breaking News: Corey Maggette likes to shoot the ball”

That is like the least breaking of news I have ever heard. I think someone last week made the analogy of “they are like 5 guys who are playing 21 and happen to wear same uniform”. That is the perfect description of GS right now.

Like I predicted when they got Jamal “jacker” Crawford, they might set a record for lowest assist count in history. They might even have a game or two where there are ZERO assists. The sad thing about all the jackers on the team, they all shoot very low % shots (in otherwords, they suck) but seem to think they all shoot 60%.

  • Kermit the Washington

WOW dime! No one got your “Breaking News” joke you slipped in there…lots of uptight panzies up in this piece!

  • j

I went to the same High School as Corey Maggette so it pains me to see anything negative about him. However, the guy is definitely a huge ball-hog, and I hope the Bulls don’t get him. All we need is another selfish player who refuses to let D. Rose run the team.

  • derrick

$50 mil for maggette reminds me that it’ll always be tough being a warrior fan.

no matter how many barons you bring in, it always seems to go two or three bad for every good thing.

  • K Dizzle

I think it’s fun to see that GS and Nelson’s system ain’t shit without a point guard to distribute. You don’t just find players like Baron walkin the streets. You shoulda given dude his extension cuz this situation gonna be ridiculous when Monta gets back… Same ol Warriors. 1 step forward, 3 steps back

  • George W Kush Sr

@20 meant young as in still usable. The cliche still young which was used to say that he got time to develop up to a top 10 talent has long faded away.

He still has 4 years or so of averaging 20ppg, thats what i meant. But he has been the same player since Duke

  • LakeShow84

I love watching this team burn and im fron the Bay.. But this why.. trust i would like to see my boys do good..

I was talking to someone about this the other day.. The best magic Mullin worked was getting Baron for NOTHING.. Baron made that team what is was.. Even the first year he was there they upset EVERYONE that last half of the season.. Then the next year he goes into the playoffs and s#$ts all over Dallas.. THEN in typical “oooo we have an up and coming star” fashion they start jocking Monte to the point that they completely alienated their BEST PLAYER (by far).. game him no extension, traded his complement SG in Jrich, and then benched him in a do or die game because his shot wasnt falling..

Yeah this is why i could/would never be a Warrior fan.. Wilt, Webber and Arenas are the ones who really stick out in my head..

And plus Nelly Ball doesnt even work with D’antoni and Mike does it better than good ole Donnie.. So get a real coach and some bigs!!

  • LakeShow84

And there is a difference between having a playmaker (Baron) and a scorer (monte)..

Do i even need to explain it?? Plus Baron got DUMB range over Monte..

  • isotope

Guys, i think the “breaking news” was sarcasm.

  • Nora

Eric, I think ‘chucking’ is more obnoxious then telling the truth like KG did.

  • jonny taise

i think the author of this article was taking the piss when he decided on the title.
