Celtics Interested in Stephon Marbury?

Stephon MarburySteph

What should you do if you’re 22-2 and trying to make it to Christmas without losing another game? How about signing one of the most controversial guards in the NBA?

The Boston Celtics are one of a handful of teams, according to sources close to the situation, who have expressed interest in embattled Stephon Marbury if the embattled point guard is bought out by the New York Knicks.

Ainge believes the locker room is strong enough – with veterans Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen – to handle the addition of the enigmatic Marbury.

If there’s one franchise that could handle any of Steph’s antics it’s Boston. I read a story this weekend about how Ray Allen organized a team trip to the Holocaust museum in Washington, D.C. - and when their plane was delayed, he got the team bus driver to take everyone directly to the museum to make sure that they got that visit in. These guys are a true team.

What would you think of Steph in Beantown?

I’m all for it. We also got Sam in the locker room to help him chill out

  2. JCARR says:

    Sign of the Apocalypse…

  3. mules says:

as long as he can average 8-10 dimes and 2 or 3 assists

  4. Jay the Joint says:

    He’s Gay

  5. William Prince says:

He’d probably prosper in Boston again. He surely still wants to win a championship and if the Celtics play worse after signing him than before, we’ll know for sure that EVERY team Marbury gets traded to gets worse because of his addition.
I’ve been a fan of Marbury before his questionable actions but I’d still like to see him succeed in some sort or form.

  6. ZACH says:

    @ mules

    What?????

I think it is definately an upgrade for the bench, but even if Marbury knows going into it that he is going to get 12-20 minutes a night I dont think that he is going to be happy. You can always cut him though, cause I doubt that they will offer him that much loot. I think that he will go with money and a bad team over a vets minimum and a championship chance. Thats just my opinion, but I think history and the buyout situation show that at this point Starbury is in it for the money.

  7. fallinup420 says:

le sigh. Do they really need him? I mean, reeeeeeeeally?

  8. the rocket cat says:

I want him in Toronto, although everyone else thinks I’m crazy.

  9. nola says:

    @the rocket cat

well that’s because you are. toronto has no leader. bosh is a great player, but not a great leader. putting starbury on that team would just make them a bomb waiting to explode. just my opinion…

  10. JCARR says:

Rondo will disappear for the rest of the year if this happens…

  11. amanalone says:

They’re crazy if they do this. Do not underestimate how strong this guy’s personality is and how fragile team chemisty can be.

He can help certain teams, but Boston isn’t one of them.

  12. MattO says:

    yes! reunite payton-kemp 2.0!

  13. fallinup says:

    I’m mean…..REEEEEEALLLY. C’mon!

  14. Ross says:

I can already see KG trying to make him cry, and Marbury complaining about it to the press.

  15. marcus says:

    Where’s Dime at?!

Kendrick Perkins line right now in the middle of the 3rd:

    12 pts
    12 boards
    2 dimes

Y’all are always accentuating the negative with him, he’s been huge for us this year!

  16. Big V says:

Chill. Not trying to see Steph in the Atlantic where he can do us maximum damage…..

  17. Danny says:

    That’s so stupid.

On another topic….what happened to Jermaine Oneal?

  18. kg fan says:

    @ mules
    I got that!

  19. Yoshi says:

    @ Mule

Do you know what a dime is?????

You just said ‘10 dimes and 3 or 2 assists’

    DIMES = ASSISTS!

  20. Shawn says:

It was a joke Yoshi. Steph got the two confused in an interview a while back.

  21. wwill says:

The question is why would they even bother.

  22. Kermit The Washington says:

    Wow Yoshi…fall back man!

LOL @ Mules: I was thinking the same dang thing!

But OMG, please no…Please don’t reward Steph for all this foolishness…I can’t stand to watch dude potentially copping a ring this year. I might cry.

  23. rocky lobs says:

im sure marbury wont be a nuisance with his team not losing 75% of the time.
but it would be such a woot if the celtics were to finish just above .500 with him on the roster.

  24. wiseman says:

i tihnk he could help the bench out AND DONT PUT HIM IN TORONTO!!!!!!!

  25. Bobby B says:

marcus, what position do you play for the Celtics?! Doc allows you to surf the internet while sitting on the bench? He’s much cooler than I thought!

  26. Celts Fan says:

definitely took dimes to mean dimes in his truck (thought it was a joke, it woulda been a good one too!)

on Marbury - FUCK NO. We got Rondo. Dude put up 25, 9, 8, and 3 on DWill tonight. I’d rather have Cassell (he’ll be back around Feb. probably) Eddie House, and potentially - if he can ever crack the rotation - Gabe Pruitt. I’d rather go to war with that less talented, but MUCH more sane bunch. All Marbury will do is try to take Rondo’s job, fuck w/ him, and ruin team chemistry (or just be a nuisance.) We need a legit backup center (sorry POB, you don’t count) not a cancer. Get Deke, fuck this clown

  27. srb says:

I’d rather have the Cavs sign him, so that they’ll be easier to beat.

  28. mules says:

I was hoping he went to another team so KG can taunt him when he brings the ball up the court.

    @ Zach & Yoshi
check out this video at about the 1:25 mark. I really hope someone picks dude up before the season’s over…Donnie Walsh is depriving the world of priceless youtube footage…every time this guy speaks in front of a camera it’s an absolute disaster.

  29. Big V says:

They really don’t need Steph right now. They have enough scorers and Rondo’s playing extremely well in terms of both scoring, rebounding, and running the offense.

In the playoffs, Cassell’s still serviceable enough to run the offense while Rondo sits.

  30. analord says:

i’m all for Steph being in any team that’s less dysfunctional than the current knicks.

  31. mules says:

Listening to Tommy Heinsohn trying to defend his antics would be kind of fun…such a phucking homer.

  32. Aron says:

    Andrew,

I almost cried when I saw this. NO WAY he signs with Boston. That would be like adding Mike Vick (future cell mate of Plax) to the Giants.

No need for Steph with House on call, Cassell on ice and Pruitt on deck - he had a career high 8 points tonight in 9 minutes.

  33. Lady Luck says:

Not enough minutes in Boston for Marbury. I don’t like that acquisition. I think he needs to go to Florida…either Miami or Orlando.

  34. mules says:

Starbury + South Beach = trouble (truck party anyone?)

  35. ticktock6 says:

That’s what the previous teams he’s destroyed all said too…

  36. freshouttatime says:

hehe this would be great if my man starbury gets to the finals before dantoni does.

  37. weng santos says:

Celts won’t take crap from Steph.

He might just get the discipline he needs.

If he’s going anywhere, I want him to go to Boston or San Antonio. In Boston he can’t break that chemistry, in S.A. he can’t break that machine-efficient organization.

Everywhere else Steph will just get his way and be a distraction.

  38. Dunkadelic TV says:

Stephon Marbury or Starbury would be a perfect fit for the Boston Celtics and rejoin him after a 10-year split form basketball and hip-hop culture (The “Dunkadelic-Era” In America, 1984-Present) icon Kevin Garnett. Starbury and KG were supposed to be the hip-hop version of Magic and Kareem. If Starbury helps Boston win back-to-back Championships Allen Iverson and Marcus Camby would be the only 2 major active players from the 1996 NBA Draft that personified the culture fusion of basketball and hip-hop that didn’t have a ring (K. Bryant, A. Walker, R. Allen, S. Marbury).

  39. haslem says:

    yes amazing

  40. Raj S says:

    Risk v. Reward
Risk: Being best team in the League riding a 15 game win streak with at least 3 future hall of famers (4 if you count Doc Rivers) and defending NBA Champs.
Reward: Having a younger, better scoring, more athletic back-up PG to Rondo than Sam Cassell.

I love Marbury, but it’s just not worth it. I don’t think it’s gonna happen.

But think about it: Ray Allen, KG, Marbury, and Pierce on the court at the same time. Lots and lots of open shots, and lots and lots of buckets.

  41. Kudabeen says:

Steph can help if he comes to play, but that doesn’t really matter…

Celtics need to do a better job playing their young guys like they did last year to get them ready to ball in the post season…I want to see if JR Giddens can actually play. I want to see more Bill Walker on the floor. Tony Allen hasn’t played that great to lock up a spot in rotation.

  42. Celts Fan says:

@Kudabeen - Doc makes his guys earn their minutes, even if it means playing Scal ahead of them (I don’t that either!) but once they hit the floor, they KNOW they belong, so maybe it all works out, it has for Leon (who put up 10 and 7 in his debut then enver saw the floor for like 3 months on a 60 loss team!)

  43. Vago says:

wasn’t there a beef between starbury and kg?

  44. got them..SCOOBY DO's says:

I think Marbury would thrive in Boston…

He won’t be the man…sometimes you have to put guys in the right situation for them to thrive…

Allen Iverson (wrong mix in Detroit, it seems Wallace doesn’t want to play with Iverson, or he really misses Chancey (which is gay))

Chancey Billips (right situation with Denver because Chancey is more of a true point guard who can shoot and Denver has more offensive weapons)

Stephon Marbury (never had the right mix in NY, NJ nor Phoenix, he should have stayed in MN

Marbury is more of a Combo guard who plays the point, he would do well with teams that don’t need him to be the man, San Antonio, Boston

I’m not so sure about Cleveland, while Lebron is the man I don’t think he would fit with them

  45. karizmatic says:

    The Celtics don’t need Marbury

  46. rell says:

Before the season started I thought we needed Marbury because he would be beneifical to the bench after we lost Posey. However with Tony Allen improving and Ray Allen getting back to his old self I think we don’t need Marbury. I rather resign PJ or go after Mutumbo. Like Kudabeen said Doc need to start playing Walker and Gidden and stop giving Scalabrine minutes.

  47. ninja cool says:

Oh great. Get in line, Starbury. Deke and ‘Toine want in the green machine also. Hey Steph, Kobe’s calling you…

  48. Big Shot BOB says:

I don’t understand what Marbury really did to get this bad rap. How is he such a cancer all of a sudden. Why because he slepped with an intern? Because he refused to play in a game when the knicks were in a losing season under Isiah Thomas? Because he refused to play for Dantoni because of the way the Knicks org has been treating him? What exactly did he do?
