Suns Rise

Amare StoudemireAmare Stoudemire, Dime #14

For their own sake, maybe the Suns hit rock-bottom when they got destroyed by the Mavs on national TV the other day, and it’s all looking up from here. Phoenix was an entirely different team last night against the Jazz, essentially the unit Steve Kerr was envisioning when he made the Shaq trade in the first place; able to dominate the paint and run at the same time. Amare put up 22 points and 20 boards in the win, Shaq added 15 and 10, and Leandro Barbosa, whose game is impacted the most depending on whether the Suns are running, scored 25. We would point out that Utah didn’t have Carlos Boozer, but Paul Millsap (20 pts, 12 rebs) has been playing out of his mind in Boozer’s absence, so it’s almost a wash … Play of the game: Shaq got an offensive board over four guys (Korver, Harpring, Memo and Kirilenko; it looked like a Duke game had broken out) and crammed on all of them, with AK-47 taking a forearm in the face in the process … As for the Mavs, they seem to have found their stride as well. The three-guard lineup with Jason Kidd, Jason Terry and J.J. Barea (the new “Three J’s”?) has been killing lately, including last night against the Hawks, helping Dallas pick up their ninth win in the last 10 games. Barea scored 22, doing a lot of his damage during a third-quarter run where the Mavs seemed to pull away before having to fight off a late ATL rally. From a pure scoring standpoint, Barea has been looking like Steve Nash from a couple years ago, never picking up his dribble until he absolutely has to and finding ways to finish over 7-footers despite not having Baron Davis hops or Deron Williams strength … D-Wade dropped 38 on the Thunder, treating their D like traffic cones and beasting guys like Chris Wilcox on the boards who should never get beasted by someone Wade’s size. We need to make a provision that when it comes to voting on postseason awards and All-Star selections, we can’t consider anything that was done against the Thunder. It’s like playing in an empty gym … After focusing on locking down Danny Granger on Friday, LeBron was able to get back to getting buckets, to the tune of 25 points in 27 minutes on the helpless Bobcats. It wasn’t all offense, though; ‘Bron had his standard-fare intimidation block (this time on Ray Felton) … When D.J. Augustin fakes a pass to set up a shot, does anyone fall for it? Seeing him and Mo Williams on the same court is like when Stromile Swift and Tyrus Thomas meet up … Speaking of Stro, he popped up and made an appearance in Nets/Sixers, via an alley-oop from Vince that Stro threw down like the good ol’ days … Devin Harris went for 27 points, eight assists and four steals in the win, while Vince (who NBA TV’s Kevin Loughery called “underrated”) almost had a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight dimes … Reggie Miller was among the celebs in the crowd for the Manny Pacquiao/Oscar De La Hoya fight in Vegas. Mike Tyson, Bernard Hopkins, Sugar Shane and Usher were also in the building, along with Keyshia Cole, who sang the Anthem. All three undercard fights were weak — the dude who lost the second fight, Sergio Medina, was especially a disgrace — and the main event was surprisingly one-sided. Oscar looked old and slow, and by the 2nd/3rd round it became clear there was no way he’d win the fight. Pacman just pounded him relentlessly, staggered him a few times, and in the words of Jim Lampley, was “disfiguring the beautiful face” of De La Hoya before The Golden Boy quit on his stool after the eighth round. Pacman was simply too fast and too strong, and Oscar should seriously consider calling it a career … We’re out like The Golden Boy …

and does anyone think mr jared jaffries can make the new york knicks a better team? my homosexual friend vladamir bolcic thinks he make them into a team that can win a nba championship and i just think that is crazy. and vlad is too.

and mr austin burton, does mr kenyon martian and josh childress answer all the questions we ask, or just some. because i still wonder what happened to mr childresses teeth.

    so long from jurg, hi.

  4. Austin Burton says:

K-Mart and Childress will answer their favorite questions out of the bunch.

  5. Richard from Cleveland says:

yea lebron for mvp he has been going ham all season and he doesn’t even play hard. Everybody has been talking about Kobe not playing the 4th lebron really don’t play in the 4th either.

  6. doc says:

Bron held Gerald Wallace to 1 point also.Oscar deserve that ass whipping for that gay ass lump in the front hairdo Elvis and them cats use to wear. One thing I give to him though is in his career he fought everybody who was somebody besides Roy but Roy was scared to fight anybody until he got old and people wasnt paying to see him fight cops and shit like that.

  8. BRUCE says:

I was watching the fight too. I didn’t expect De La Chicken corner to throw in the towel. Poetic Justice. Julio Chavez uttered, “No Mas.”

Roy Jones Jr and now De La Chicken.

Manny versus Mike Tyson next. I’m kidding.

The real: Dream Match – Manny vs Mayweather.

  9. the_don_mega says:

@ FED… that chick is hot as ish…

    new “three j’s”??? interesting….

BTW… this is kinda old but…

    the Celts love the Pacman…

  10. BRUCE says:

Manny Pacquiao — The Mexican Murderer/Assasin!!!

    Kill, Kill, Kill!!!

De La Chicken isn’t Mexican, he is American. According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 29, Section 23: When you look like the enemy, you are the enemy!

Bring on Mayweather – Manny will tag that ass too!

  11. Richard Wellner says:

    Pacquiao isn’t Mexican, he’s Iraqi.

Secondly, the Suns are done. Put a fork in them. The big Jerk Off that is Shaq has murdered this franchise. Steve Kerr sucks.

Bring Nash to New York and blow the suns up already.

  12. it aint easy being green says:

no, pacquiao is from the phillipens (spelling?)

  13. the_don_mega says:

    @Richard Wellner…

    he aint Iraqi…

  14. driveatsleep says:

    @ Richard Wellner

    man, you got problems…

  15. Richard Wellner says:

    How do I have problems?

I am saying how it is with the Suns. Do you see them going past the first round this year- IF they make the playoffs?

Kerr was good as a Yahoo Analyst but horrible as a GM. He’s gonna be praying for D’Antoni to come back soon.

And Nash would be a great fit for New York. Since the Suns are in a rebuilding phase, they might as well trade him for Nate Robinson.

  16. the_don_mega says:

    @Richard Wellner…

problems as in saying Pacquiao is Iraqi…

  17. Richard Wellner says:

    He looked Iraqi.

  18. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

    @Austin
If yall gonna talk about the fight atleast post some celeb pics with it.
Also how do i get in touch with Jed about that dimepiece section.

  19. that's whats up says:

hey DICK Wellner, lay off the yayo before your first posts.
    …too much aggression.

FED, damn…. she got two pigs fightin’ under that blanket.
Wherever the factory is to make girls like that, there is an instructional poster in the breakroom that reads: “Ass, Done RIght”.

  20. ninja cool says:

Hey man, it’s “Philippines.” And I like that they call our boy the “Mexecutioner.” B-Hop said de la Hoya would knock him out in the 7th. And if anyone had a problem with that, just meet him in the back. What a bully. Next thing you know, he’ll want to challenge Manny. Mabuhay to the most popular Celtic fan in my country. Peace!

  21. JCARR says:

dwade treating the Thunder “D” like traffic cones…. lol
Wooah… JJ compared Nash. Its too early for that even though JJ has been balling and definetely deserves to start.

Was the boxing match even worth watching better yet buying?!?!?!?!?!???? They just destroyed boxings comeback after last night. UFC has taken over.

The suns, spurs and dallas are all surpringly worse than last year, but its better for them to struggle now than later.

  22. Richard Wellner says:

JCARR, the Spurs are not worse than last year. They are ‘balling’ pretty damn hard considering they started off gimpy.

The boxing match wasn’t worth watching, man, not unless you are from the Filipines.

  23. knoc says:

the match wasnt bad, but if your a fan of de la hoya, its better to just close your eyes. he lookd old and the pacman just ate him up through 8rounds.

  24. Trevor Arreza says:

    Youngfed, thank you very much.

Something makes me wanna fast forward this season to the play-offs already. And watch the contenders knock each other out… Celts, Cavs, Lakers, and someone else from the West.

Pacman is the truth in boxing.

  25. alf (from melmak) says:

please someone correct me if i am wrong, but was that gary (the glove) payton in pac-man’s corner during the start of the bout? you can see him when buffer was introducing the fighters. i was asking a couple of people earlier and they also think its gp.

as for the jazz, i am alarmed by their record! they are supposed to have a deep bench! and d-will should have never gone back early! it sucks.

my meal allowance needs an upgrade this Christmas. :)

  26. QQ says:

Holla to Manny Pacquaio!! Damn, that kid is swell… It’s like seeing Lebron take on the NBA. Oscar ain’t called Golden Boy for nuthin, he was a beast. But Pacman destroyed him. Damn.

IT’S THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW ERA.

  27. QQ says:

And to that dickhead saying Pacman is Iraqi.

Do your fucking research before posting.
He’s Filipino and if you REALLY watched the bout, you would had known it.

  28. JCARR says:

    @QQ
Boxing sadly to say is over!!!!!
UFC has taken over… one tv set at a time
I rather watch Rocky vs. Ivan Drago than Oscar and pacman

  29. QQ says:

    @ post 28

That’s your opinion, bro. Even if some people don’t like boxing, Manny is the extraordinary athlete that draws people to watch a sport that they don’t give 2 shits about.
    He’s that good.

  30. Richard Wellner says:

Why are you so defensive QQ? Is it because the Filipinez only have Packwacki to lay claim to?

I didn’t mean much by it, I just thought that he looked Iraqi.

  31. QQ says:

    No. Because you’re a douchebag.

    That is all.

  32. Richard Wellner says:

I don’t see where you’re coming from, I’m a great person, and please stop detracting from this wonderful article by poisoning the atmosphere with personal attacks. Your moms never taught you that you gotta respect humans?

  33. the_don_mega says:

    @ that’s whats up…
u called it right down the middle….

    @Richard Wellner…
i dont know u man… but what you said ’bout my mother land aint right… aint startin’ a racist thing man… just dont go talkin’ ish bout my mother land again…

  34. Richard Wellner says:

You filipinoz are all the same when ti comes to your mother land. I haven’t met a single normal filipino.

  35. the_don_mega says:

ei cats… pardon the don’s temper. i said my piece… lets go back to talkin ’bout ball ya’ll…

  36. QQ says:

    @ don mega:
Just ignore the douchebag, man. Keep your head up, and congratulations for that big win for one of your country’s sons. Holla.

PS: Wellner is STILL a douchbag.

  37. rangerjohn says:

ok dime whats up the spurs 40 piece the warriors and not even a slight mention, even though there was a nice long piece from the previous game about the rockets spanking them? the spurs hate is running deep these days huh

and boxing is not completely dead, i mean hell those of us who train MMA like boxing, we like to learn a little bit of everything, now not paying a dime (yep pun intended) to watch it.

  38. the_don_mega says:

    @QQ:

ei, thanks cat… im ayt.. im cool with that. i said my piece thats all.

btw… i think it is ok for the Mavs,Suns,Spurs,Pistons to get their bruises this early in the season. that means they still have alot more time tom fix their gameplan… for the Cavs… it goes the other way… they’re off to a big start and look ayt.. but they have to keep they game right as the real playoff caliber teams are yet to come…

  39. the_don_mega says:

    @rangerjohn:

i watched the game… Spurs lookin’ good… it seems that on offense…Hill,Mason and Bonner are really coming into their own now…

  40. Richard Wellner says:

Yo if the Spurs get Marbury, I got them winning the ‘chip, bros! Steph would give them a scoring dimension they’ve never had! Take the load off everyone else, and I think his atitude will subside after this humbling Knicks ordeal, plus Pop will keep him right. And if Pop isn’t enough, then Timmy D, Manu, and Tony P are right there to put him in his place.

    Go to the Spurs, Steph!

  41. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

    @That’s Whatsup & Mega
I was just trying to show DIME what a real Dime looks like. Instead of their constant saturation of ButterFaces and LilBottoms. lol
But that Chick Lola just might be the finnest i’ve seen in a minute. If you look here up in the dictionary her picture is next to the word Asstastic. lmao

  42. vinny says:

@ranger- how come the spurs games are never in hd?
@dick(richard) your still making lots of friends on here huh?

  43. Richard Wellner says:

Spurs games ARE in HD, but you gotta be near them to get the HD rays.

  44. jl90 says:

hey dime you gotta mention shaun livingston playing actual minutes for the heat last night! it was the first time ive seen him on the court.

  45. rangerjohn says:

yeah they are in HD but it depends if they send the roadcast out. it is odd though cause some nights they are hd and others they are not. from what i understand it depends on who is actually broadcasting the games, not every team has hd set up, and last night the warriors where broadcasting so i guess they didnt bring any HD equipment with them.

what pissews me off (and they did it to me again last night), spurs at home and they have the OTHER TEAMS COMMENTATORS calling the game!!!!

spurs can look VERY GOOD (ie last night) when they play a team with little on the inside, when they are up against a team with good inside players they have issues. (ie rockets). they need someone better then bonner rebounding, better then oberto and his crappy tapouts, better then thomas and his age (he is not bad just a step or 5 slower) better hten duncan, OH WAIT what they hell was i thinking, there has never been anyone better then duncan! i think they have the outside game figured out. i want to see mahinmi in there!

  46. vinny says:

Thanks Dick- as usual your a wealth of accurate information!
@youngfed- man if there gonna have pictures of ‘lola’ they need to have her from the side or back-that ass dont even look real!

  47. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

click the other link for backshotz but thats one chick i’m happy w/the face and lips alone.

  48. Richard Wellner says:

her butt is out of this world, i got off to her twice already this morning.

  49. vinny says:

@ranger-yea there’s a few teams who are rarely in hd.–cheap ass teams! isnt sean elliot the spurs color guy?

  50. vinny says:

    Dick- tmi man tmi!

  51. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

    #48
Get room bruh and not this on puh-leeeeeaaasssse. lol

  52. doc says:

Damn Rich u skeeting all over ya keyboard huh?

  53. Richard Wellner says:

Nah man I clean up nice.

  54. Max says:

I’m sure no one was paying attention with the fight going on, but the Kings were bad — like Thunder level bad — against the Nuggets. I just had the game on in the background but ended up watching the last ten minutes because I couldn’t believe a team could be that bad. Guys on the Kings bench actually left the floor before the buzzer, they were so disgusted.

The Kings announcers weren’t even paying attention to calling the game most of the second half, it was so pointless.

And check the highlights for a Dahntay Jones block against Brad Miller — absolutely sick, Jones’ leap made Kobe look like Scalabrine in comparison. That was the most excited the announcers got…they were raving over Dahntay all game, no Kings players to rave over anyway.

  55. Richard Wellner says:

Given how horrible the Kings are, how DARE Dime compare VC to Martin?

Martin is a crappy player on any decent team. He is one of those ‘do good on a crap team’ players.

Even though I chose Martin in the earlier post, I take that back. He sucks, the Kings suck, they should just rebuild.

  56. Celts Fan says:

Oscar is wealthy as hell and owns Golden Boy Promotions (why Shane and Hopkins were there) and rakes in the $$$. Dude don’t need to get popped in the grill to get paid and is too slow to avoid it. Hang ‘em up and focus on the hype game. No shame in losing to the best in the world right now or in anything he’s done in his career. Call it a day before you’re Evander slow…

and I know this is a few days late, but after seeing Brandon Roy in person for the first time on Friday and seeing how he basically got shut down (for him) by the Celtics, I gotta give it up. Joe Johnson is definitely better right now. Roy is my favorite non-Celtic in the league and does just about everything (love versatility) but Joe does too and seems to get his a little easier at this point. When all’s said and done, I think Roy becomes a top 10 player, but not yet (and if both of these guys aren’t on the 2012 Olympic team, it’s a travesty.)

  57. Celts Fan says:

@Richard WEllner (change it to Dick Wellner and you get a great porn name! anyway…) I think Kevin Martin’s a really nice player, he just shouldn’t be the best player on a team. If he’s your #2 or #3, you’re in great shape, when he’s your #1, you’re going to the lottery again. Nothing wrong w/ that, he’s just miscast as THE guy, when he shouldn’t be.

  58. the_don_mega says:

    @doc: LOL!

  59. MadSammyboy says:

Wow, the Suns won. They better get their act together and KEEP winning, or they’ll win even fewer championships than they did in the halcyon D’Antoni era…..

  60. Richard Wellner says:

You’re right, CeltsFan. That is more or less what I was shooting for.
He’s not a #1 guy, and if he’s your #1 guy, you’re in bad shape, like the Kings are. So I’m pissed at Dime for even mentioning the two players in the same sentence. Everyone knows VC was always a #1.

  61. Celts Fan says:

@Doc, where you playing nowadays man?

  62. baron von faulk says:

Long script tattoos are basically retarded, sorry. That’s what books and Bibles are for.

And yes I have tattoos, my sister owns a shop here in TX, even she agrees. If you are thinking of getting tatted, get an image instead that represents the passage you like (or carry it in your wallet), or even a symbol or lone word even is better.

Just my .02 cents, I feel like hatin’ on Amare’s dumb ass today. That’s me, a hater

  63. baron von faulk says:

@YOUNGFED – That chic looks like if her booty fell off there would be another one already there to pop right in, like a second row of shark’s teeth!

@RangerJ – You know Austin Burton likes the Spurs enough, maybe he didn’t write up today or just missed the 40-piecing. They can’t mention every game ya know. I watched the game on the CW (crazy, huh?) here in cap-city Austin, TX and we had Bill and Sean calling the game, very amusing last night btw.

@Jurg – I’m starting to think you are just a dude named Gary from Pittsburgh pulling your best Sasha Baren Cohen imitation, your English was a little too polished today. Emerson wrote that “Imitation is suicide.”

  64. Chaos says:

Man de la Hoya had nothing for Pacquiao…he actually weighed less than pacquiao in the fight which was noticable because pacquiao looked like a bodybuilder while oscar looked like a peurto rican version of pookie from new jack city…

Anyway, lebron is gettin off to that shit. i think his blocks have become even more demoralizing to teams than his dunks…he need to scream something like gilbert arenas do when he blocks shots.

anyone else feel the spurs run getting ready to start?

How the hell is detroit not able to close out games?!

  65. baron von faulk says:

I’ll tell you what Chaos/Ranger/T.W.U., if Ian Mahinmi can bring his athleticism and rebounding to the Spurs front-line, they WILL be able to hang with the Lakers, mark it dude.

  66. haslem says:

ive been a JJ Barea fan for yearrrrrsss finally he’s getting some love.
the core the mavs are building of Barea, Gerald Green, and Bass is pretty sick

  67. Amar says:

lmao @ the suns being this great team that steve kerr imagined. amare always gets stats . . . and the suns won by a whopping 2 points at home to a team without their all-star (carlos boozer) who gets other teams’ bigs in foul trouble, and with deron williams still not being able to shoot. great win for the suns though.

what the heck was sloan doing with playing ak only 22 minutes?

  68. qUeSt??? says:

that second fight the guy who won is juan manuel lopez, an undefeated puertorrican 22 of his 24 wins have been knockouts

  69. qUeSt??? says:

oh and just in case, if pacquiao goes up, cotto will destroy him

  70. BRUCE says:

Cotto is too big for Manny. If they fight, Cotto will do what De La Chicken was supposed to do. Or Cottoa will do what De La Chicken did NOT do.

  71. BRUCE says:

Ian Mahinmi – You are bringing in a D-Leaguer. Name one D-Leaguer that made an impact. Matt Carroll. Anyone else?

  72. Big Freeze says:

LMAO @ Shaq got an offensive board over four guys (Korver, Harpring, Memo and Kirilenko; it looked like a Duke game had broken out)

  73. rangerjohn says:

bruce, you are missing the point, we are not talking bringing in mahinmi as an impact player, just someone who can give some athleticism, and some youth. ian was not out of the d league, he was sent down due to roster spots more then anything. granted his 1st season he needed to get some time in, but damn the kid was only 18 or 19 at that time. he just turned 22, most college kids come into the league around 22-23 yrs old.

  74. baron von faulk says:

They had Mahinmi in the dL because he was rotting on the bench in France playing like 6 mins/gm. This way he could learn the Spurs’ system here in Austin and they could more closely monitor his development.

He could very likely end up being the best player to ever have played dL ball (moreso than the Matt Carroll suggestion or Devin Brown i.e.). Still very raw, though…

His #’s last year were reeediculous and he led the Toros to the Finals which is great experience, if he can do even close to half that in the real L he will make the impact necessary to (possibly) put Spurs over the top. If he didn’t get injured in preseason he would already be contributing.

He’ll do better defensively than Oberto or Kurt Thomas could anyway. He’ll grab quite a few boards, get a couple of blocks, and even posterize a few bigs with his athletic ability.

He is the ace up Pop’s sleeve for the 2nd half of the season, just watch. The Spurs are gonna be sneakin’ up on folks, just BAU!

  75. Austin Burton says:

Don’t sleep on Kelenna Azubuike as a solid D-League alum.

  76. BUDZ says:

cheers to PACMAN, the best P4P boxer in the world!

even the NBA champs took notice.

    mabuhay!

  77. Lady Luck says:

How does the emergence of Paul Milsap impact the pending free agency of Carlos Boozer?

Do the Jazz need to trade Kirilenko or should they just stick with their team? Remember the Kirilenko-Marion trade rumors from a season ago, would the Jazz still consider that? Or Boozer for Marion?

  78. Lady Luck says:

Oh and Jordan Farmar played in the D-league and he impacts the second unit of the Lakers.

  79. gertie says:

Jason Kidd, Jason Terry and J.J. Barea (the new “Three J’s”?)
    isn’t that Four J’s?

  80. Big V says:

If Mayweather comes out to fight Manny, I got him winning via decision or late-round TKO.

His defense is too tight, and Manny basically has none.
