The basketball and hip-hop culture fusion born in 1984 is known now as The "Dunkadelic-Era" In America, 1984-Present. The "Dunkadelic-Era" will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary during the year 2009 (1984-2009). The "Dunkadelic-Era" is the first and only sport-and-music defined time period in American history. The 5 following events in 1984 led to the birth of The "Dunkadelic-Era".

 1. The NBA first introduced the Slam Dunk Contest to All-Star Weekend on January 28, 1984. Larry Nance defeated Dr. J to win the Slam Dunk Championship.

 2. David Stern was announced as the 4th NBA Commisioner on February 1, 1984.

 3. Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons formed Def Jam Records in March 1984. Def Jam remains the #1 hip-hop label in the industry. Kurtis Blow the hip-hop pioneer releases the hit rap song 'Basketball' from the Ego Trip album.

 4. The Fresh Fest was the first major hip-hop concert tour featuring Kurtis Blow, RUN-DMC, Whodini, Newcleus, and the Fat Boys. The tour had 27 stops earning more than 3.5 million dollars.

 5. Michael Jordan was selected by the Chicago Bulls with 3rd pick of the 1984 NBA Draft on June 19, 1984. Jordan would sign with Nike and produce the "Air Jordan" sneakers that would later become symbols of fashin within the hip-hop culture.

 Bonus Events:

John Thompson the Hall-of-Fame coach would become the first African-American Division 1 college basketball coach to win an NCAA Championship. He led the Georgetown Hoyas with star center Patrick Ewing over the Houston Cougars 84-75 on April 2, 1984.

NBA current stars Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Andre Iguodala, LeBron James, Nate Robinson, and Deron Williams were all born in 1984. Carmelo is the new-face of the Jordan Brand, and LeBron wears the #23 just as Jordan. Andre Iguodala the hi-flyin' forward of the Philadelphia 76ers was born the same day of the first NBA Slam Dunk Contest January 28, 1984.

Duncan should have either shot the open J (which would have left time for an O-board if he missed) or not pussed out when Richard Jefferson kind of got in his way, and set the ball right in the damn bucket with his right hand instead of that lefty garbage he threw up there.

As far as missing the foul call on his drive, there was indeed a swipe attempt, but if you think the hand is part of the ball then there was no foul really. The refs did not lose that game for the Spurs, the Spurs lost that game with their sorry-ass effort.

Plus the Bucks had EVERY single lucky break and bounce you can possibly imagine...it was insane really. Hey it happens.

G-Town up!

Fire Kevin McHale now. Ain't no way a team should ever give up that type of lead. Even if you just have to hold the ball every possesion till the clock expires you don't give that type of lead up. That is just GEE. I know other teams have done it, but still that shouldn't take place in the L. If your lead is over 20 and you still lose. You deserve to lose.

LaMarcus Aldrige is one of my favorite players. Yea he don't play D. Still he gives you points and hustle. He doesn't get his named mention enough at all.

Boston better re-establish because the last thing you want is teams to develop confidence against you in feeling they can beat you. They need to keep that fear installed in teams they go against.

So is it better to let LeBron score at will and stop all the others. Yea I would take that route. Considering LeBron is going to get his anyway let him take the load, if you shut down the other cats you have a better chance at getting that W I feel.

Miami needs a legit 5 fa real, they really should be trying to do something.

Dang this season is still going to fast for me.

24 rebounds for Camby?!? Damn! I guess if OKC are the SLUMP BUSTERS, then the Kings are the EGO BOOSTERS.

I'd like to see Gibson make some more shots.

Way to go Blake!

I'll give Wade some shine. Wade is the MVP of the Miami Heat. He is a GREAT player. He, in little time, helped turned Miami into a Championship Contender, then a Champ. He's the Man! I don't think anyone on this blog would dispute that.

“I SHOULD HAVE THROWN THAT SHIT DOWN!!!” {{{{ ---- I agree with Duncan's afterthought. He should imposed his will and got the highest percent shot on that one. But I can see why he went for the lay up.

Hey Dime, I guess you thought Dirk and Jason had mismatches they could greatly exploit to thier advantage 'cause I'm 100% not sure you're insulting Ollie and Cardinal.

Funny, I'm starting think we need to embark on a collective effort to differentiate good journeymen from not-so-good journeymen because the term carries an inherently negative connotation and that's not fair to the "Kurt Thomases and Joe Smiths" of the L.

WOW, if someone is, they really have a problem.

i'm a fan of kobe, but i would never watch 24hrs of him, that's insane.

not even 24hrs, i would get bored watching 2hrs, outside of a game of course.

I agree, s bucketz.

I just checked the box score. Without Nash, the starters totaled 9 assists, and the Suns ended up getting 16 assists to 17 turnovers...and still won by 12. How is that even possible?

Whats going on with the Celtics? They loose to Roy-less Trailblazer team.

The BUcks on most ruined my night. How about some mention about Andrew Bogut??? He had like 20, 15, 5, and 3 blocks and he had the defensive assignment of guarding TD.

The T-wolves have the perfect opportunity to get rid of McHale. Just do it Minny!! Get Avery Johnson or Sam Mitchell.

Lebron has lost every time he has played on his birthday. And according to Heat announcers he also lost on his birthday when he was in high school.

The Clippers ________ (fill in the blank)!!!!

And go Boston!!

Hopefully in two years KG will be back on TV crying about losing again.. And this time no one will give a shit..

Suckaassmudafuda..

But they still are the defending champs.. But it goes to show that while everyone is saying the East is "stronger" there are plenty of teams to eat out there still.. Bostons been feasting on the East teams and so have the Cavs.. I want to see how the Cavs work through their West Coast trip.. If they even have one..

The Cavs schedule is beautiful.. if your a Cav fan..
