Welcome to Atlanta

Joe JohnsonJoe Johnson (photo. Zach Wolfe)

The last time the Cavs and Hawks hooked up, LeBron had one of his one-man Dunk Contest expos, putting dudes like Solomon Jones and Mo Evans on blast while Josh Smith could only sit and watch. That was back on Nov. 22, as the Cavs notched their first of what would become an 11-game win streak, which they carried into ATL last night. But with the Cavs shorthanded this time around (Big Z and Boobie Gibson were out) and the Hawks having J-Smoove back in the lineup, it was a different story. ‘Bron still put in major work (33 pts, 9 asts, 4 stls) — including one play where he drove on Smith and smashed on him almost worse than D-Wade did the night before — but the Cavs had the win streak snapped as Mike Bibby had an ’02 flashback, scoring 24 points and taking turns sticking clutch buckets in the fourth quarter with Joe Johnson (17 pts, 8 asts) … For one night at least, the Hawks fans gave Phillips Arena an almost postseason-type atmosphere. The building was full for maybe the first time since last year’s playoffs (even if many of them were there to see LeBron) and Ludacris handled the pre-game intros … From: Dime, To: Utah Jazz. Way to completely blow a rare and golden opportunity. With Dwight Howard‘s left knee helping him record the first DNP of his career (another 150-something to go before he catches Yao Ming), Utah still found a way to lose to Orlando in their own building. And don’t forget the Jazz were up double-digits at halftime. Deron Williams said in the post-game, “They came out, wanted it more, and they had more energy and more life.” … Marcin Gortat started in Dwight’s place and put up a harmless four points, four boards, four blocks and five fouls. You’d think Utah would pound it inside and take advantage of Dwight’s absence, but Mehmet Okur just wanted to shoot jumpers, and he couldn’t get one to go down, finishing 2-for-12 from the floor. Kyle Korver and Memo missed a couple big threes in the last 4-5 minutes of the fourth, and Rashard Lewis (27 pts) put them to bed with maybe the first tip dunk we’ve ever seen him do … The comments section in yesterday’s Smack turned into an argument over Zach Randolph‘s place among the NBA’s power forward hierarchy. Even though Dime’s biggest Z-Bo fan had to admit it’s a stretch to put Zach in the top five, you can’t deny dude is putting up NUMBERS since coming over to the Clippers. A day after handing the Blazers 38 points in a double-OT road win, Zach dropped 30 and 13 boards on the Rockets in another win last night at Staples. At one point L.A. announcer Mike Smith said, “[Randolph] is as consistent a scorer as I’ve ever seen in a Clippers uniform.” We know Terry Dehere isn’t gonna just take that lying down. And what about Bo Kimble? …

Elton BrandElton Brand

In the third quarter Yao challenged Marcus Camby, and either got scratched near his eye or poked in the eye. Either way, Yao stopped in his tracks, put his hand to his face and crumpled to the ground in sections. While Yao was gone, the Clips got started on a 17-4 run that put the Rockets behind the eight-ball by the time he returned. T-Mac tried to shoot them back in it, but Zach was just too much … Smith said the Rockets “might be the least athletic team in the League.” Well, you’ve got Yao obviously, and guys like Scola, Landry, Chuck Hayes and Brent Barry aren’t exactly ballet dancers out there. Plus Ron Artest is about as graceful as a Butterbean shadow-boxing session. We can see Smith’s point … We’re not gonna lie and say everyone (or anyone) in the Dime office thought much of Mo Cheeks as a coach, but for the Sixers to fire him now is some odd timing. Remember how everyone couldn’t stop talking about how young and promising the Sixers were during last year’s playoffs? Cheeks got less than two months to work with an allegedly new-and-improved group, one that was dealing with some injuries but seemed to be finding its identity before the coach got axed. Maybe that’s why interim coach Tony DiLeo heard some noticeable boos when he was introduced before Sixers/Wizards, but bolstered by that standard new-coach energy and the fact they were playing a horrible opponent, Philly won in a rout. Elton Brand had a season-high 27 points, The Dalembeast actually lived up to the nickname with 17 boards, and Thaddeus Young had one of the hardest dunks you’ll see this side of Kenyon Martin when he threw one down lefty and the momentum took him to the floor … Early impressions of DiLeo: He kinda looks like a cross between Yankees’ GM Brian Cashman and actor Bill Paxton, and he definitely looks like he gets around five hours of sleep a week … Sorry Dirk, but you know the rules: 46 points against the Thunder (17-for-30 FG’s, 10-for-10 FT’s, 2-for-4 3PA) only counts for 23 against an actual NBA team. Keep that shooting arm in good shape, though … Raja Bell and Boris Diaw both started in their Bobcats debut, but didn’t do much of anything (11 pts, 7 turnovers combined) and generally looked lost on the court while the ‘Cats lost to the Pistons. Rodney Stuckey had a very Chauncey-esque line of 13 points, five boards, 10 assists and three steals, and Detroit was laying the hammer down for three quarters before the backups almost blew their lead in the fourth. The starters came back and shut the door, and as far as we know, Rasheed Wallace didn’t have to make Amir Johnson cry in the process … We’re out like Cheeks …

    Ok since I caught alot of heat over my Best Pf’s list this season (even though Z-Bo is killin everybody right now) I’ve got another list that maybe we can all agree on for once. (lol) Yall know how we do it on slow Sundays.

    Top 5 Alltime: “The Best That Ever Done Did It”
    C- Kareem (Smoove Da Hustler)
    Pf- Duncan (I know I look retarded but my games smart)
    SF- Lebron (I am an alien but you can call me martian)
    SG- Kobe/MJ (tied) (They call us Goat’s)
    pg- Magic (I had Herpes too)

    @Dime
    Did you guys check out post#9 from yesterdays Smack let me know what yall thought. Personally I think that Chick might just be the greatest alltime.

    Rafa23, good call on the rashard dunk, i was about to point that out too…but those were back in the days when ray allen ran the show so him and desmond mason just beasted rebound tip dunks lol

  6. JCARR says:

    So the bobcats are worse… what a surprise
    Yao has widescreen vision.. think about it
    Cavs dont get 12…. Delonte west and mo williams missed the tying 3…

  7. smity far away says:

    @ Dime

    i wouldn’t include landry with those others (barry, hayes, scola). his putbacks and dunks on people don’t come as a result of him being nonathletic…

  8. smity far away says:

    @ youngfed

    magic gon come and beat you up…

  9. smity far away says:

    also,

    “At one point L.A. announcer Mike Smith said, “[Randolph] is as consistent a scorer as I’ve ever seen in a Clippers uniform.”

    what about Elton Brand…?

    and tyrus thomas’ head was very close to the rim on a couple oops last night. his legs were workin well. i forget that kirk is even on the roster sometimes when i watch them. i’m growing more and more confident in my expectation of them making the playoffs this year…even though they made the game a lot longer than it needed to be in the last 14 seconds…

  10. that's whats up says:

    Sorry J-Lod, no “first” post for you. No fag points accrued today; try again tomorrow. Until then I can only offer you my J-Load as compensation.
    Breakfast of champions – swallow it all!!

  11. Big Freeze says:

    If Zach Randolph is a top-5 PF, then why is the guy traded every two weeks?

  12. jayslay says:

    @ fed

    why dont u put mj at sf and kobe at the 2…..bron not anywhere on that list yet……
    i got a question….if lebron had a career ending injury (knock on wood),would he be a HOF rite now????

  13. jayslay says:

    @ dime

    can u do me a favor?? me and my dad were arguing…he says that robert horry DESERVES the HOF…can u do a pole and ask cuz i dont think career average of 7.4 ppg,4reb are good enough what do u think

  14. D-town (Dallas) says:

    I’m sure this has been brought up before but why doesn’t Detroit start Stuckey with AI and bring Rip off the bench? AI is what he is and Rip would make nasty 6th man and it would balanced out that starting five a little more…

  15. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

    @Thats whats up
    lmao

    @BigFreeze
    Good question I never understood how a PF that consitantly puts up 20-10 #’s gets treated like he’s the teams problem when he’s always been the teams best player. But if he ain’t top 5 this season I don’t know what to say.

    @Jayslay
    That would be cool put neither plays SF they are both natrual 2′s and my list is based on the best player at their original spots. And no I don’t think If Lebron stop playing he’d make it to the Hall.

  16. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

    @D-Town
    Stuckey does start but it’s tayshaun that comes off the bench. Rip ain’t coming off the bench his ego’s too big.

  17. jayslay says:

    fed
    if bron not in the Hall now how can u put him on the all time list?? ahead of Bird,Gervin,Worthy,Dr.J,guys who did it and changed the game b4 him

  18. JCARR says:

    Kobe learned from MJ… so MJ is the best SG all-time.

  19. YOUNGFED..."chicks fall in love when they see how much my wrist cost" says:

    Jayslay
    Going to the Hall doesn’t mean you were the best ever at your position. If Lebron died tommorow I still say he was the best ever.

  20. marcus says:

    what about that G Town/Memphis game?

  21. JCARR says:

    Oscar Robertson aka “Big O” aka “O-Train” aka “Triple Double Season” is best PG evaaa…30.5 points during his rookie season….30.8 points, 11.4 assists and 12.5 rebounds per game in 1961-62 season.
    I dont think LBJ can do that for four straight games!

  22. jayslay says:

    Fed
    Wow!!! lol!!! what has he done to be the best ever????

  23. Chaos says:

    was anyone watching that dallas-okc game. man they looked great in the first half but they turned intpo a D-league team in a matter on 15 min. jeff green was giving dirk the business in the first half

  24. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Jay
    Ummmm, let me see 1st off his combination of Size, Skill, Coordination is so Unique or atleast I’ve never seen it. Also he dominates whole teams similar to Wilt. No other SF has been so good at dribbling, defense, scoring, and passing as Lebron.

  25. that's whats up says:

    FED, lucky for you (all of us) that Bron’ ain’t droppin’ dead today.

    I can see how he COULD be the best ever, but he ain’t there yet. He’s not even close, yet. If he could do any other dunk than a one-handed tomahawk on the breakaways I would put him on the HOF, but until then….lmao

    Seriously, potential is there but he’s gotta deliver…….something.

  26. Dagomar says:

    I laughed at the Dirk comments. Guy scores, what, 39 the other night and you bash him for his celebration. He has 46 tonight and you bash him for playing the Thunder. Newsflash: almost all of those high-scoring games by Kobe a couple years back were against the worst teams in the NBA.

    Also, no mention of Carter’s 39 (and halfcourt shot . . . and Lopez’s reaction to the shot)?? I hate Vince and all, but that was a killer performance.

    I was sad to see the Cavs lose, but the Hawks are a tough team and the Cavs had their chances to win at the end. Loved seeing Josh Smith look like Kyle Korver when Lebron took it to the hole. As for Houston being the league’s least athletic team . . . maybe. But what about the Kings?

  27. jayslay says:

    @fed

    but my question to u is what exactly is he the greatest at?? the size and skill is there and no doubt he probably will be the best ever when he retires,,but best now???? no way!!!!! dont get me wrong he’s great but is what he’s done rite now better than what bird or dr.j did???

    ps the chick from yesterday was nice

  28. fallinup says:

    FED, that list is laughable at best. And it only proves ONCE AGAIN at how much you don’t know about the NBA and it’s history.

    As mush as everyone loves riding on Bron’s jock. To call him the greatest ever at that position is plain premature. Especially when you’re saying that he’s already even greater than….Larry Bird (what position do you think he played on those championship squads?)….Dr. J…Rick Barry…James Worthy….John Havlicek…Bernard King…and my personal fave, Elgin Baylor (seriously, look at his stats, and how he did it while in the military).

    Kobe/MJ together…..really. No, REALLY???? PUH FUCKING LEEZE. Kobe in his prime wouldn’t be able to hold MJ’s jock strap in his prime.

  29. Dagomar says:

    In my head Bird’s the best SF ever until Bron wins a championship . . . and I think Bron is the best player in the league. Look up stats, wins, rule changes, overall influence on the game, etc . . . MJ is the GOAT, not Kobe. Kobe might be the second-best SG ever, though.

    Rest of your list looks solid Fed, though Wilt would be my #1 C.

  30. vinny says:

    2FED- I have to disagree- While Labron has the potential to be the greatest of all time, i dont think he’s there yet(maybe 1 ring first) and I’D TAKE MJ as my shooting guard and either Dr J or Bird as my small forward. Just my opinion. Probably Doc because he revolutionized the game.

  31. fallinup says:

    I honestly wonder how “The King” would fair in this league if the NBA hadn’t changed the rules for him prior to his arrival. Give Bron the rules of the 90′s….would he fair the same as he does now????

    Now give someone like, MJ, or even Bird today’s rules…would they do better or worse????

  32. Dagomar says:

    Actually, James would “fare” quite well with the older rules – he’s more than big and athletic enough to dominate with the hand checking rules, no defense 3-second violations, etc.

    Of course, MJ would dominate with today’s more relaxed rules.

  33. fallinup says:

    @ Dagomer

    What I think. His perimeter game would be a lot more polished than what it is now. The era back then, the perimeter jump shot dominated (because of defenses and more physical play). These days, drive and dunkers rule.

    He’d be even stronger than what he is now. And tougher. Because he’s be taking all kinds of hits. One reason why I think Shaq is still so tough, is because he got to taste a lot of that physical play in the beginning of his career. Imagine Bron getting thwacked like they did back then.

    I know I bring it up a lot. But these rule changes piss me off. Fuck scoring…gimme me tough shots made why getting cracked. LOL

  34. vinny says:

    Man Jordan- with todays touch fouls- it would have been unfair to defenders trying to cover him- I agree with Dagomar- Labron would be fine. todays game(although I still love watching it) has to many teams, and not enough banging allowed!

  35. YOUNGFED..."You know I'm right" says:

    @posts 27-30
    If you could choose to have any SF in their prime on your team you guys all know the answer would be Lebron. So stop with this Bird, Doctor J, and James Worthy BS.

  36. jayslay says:

    when jordan came back in 2000 the rules were soft..i honestly think thats y he came back…he knew he wasn’t gon get beat up…and u see what he did then…still average like 17 a game so in his prime he might’ve average d 40 for a few years….
    as far as bron he woulda been fine except they woulda made him play PF so he woulda had to bang 4real..so who knos

  37. barons beard says:

    Kenyon Martin brutalized Robert Kurz (?) last night

  38. jayslay says:

    @Fed
    bron not in his prime yet..those guys won rings in there prime i think what we sayin is u cant say bron is the best rite now cuz he really honestly hasn’t done anything YET… not sayin he wont but as of rite now if ur building an all time team u cant put bron on there rite now…he gotta do somethin where u say yo when it comes to lebron is the best…..and u cant put size in there cuz if that were the case eddie curry would be the best ever lol

  39. vinny says:

    YoungFed, i understand your reluctance to give props to guys from other era’s, but trust-if you would have seen Doc, or Bird in there primes-you would understand why we make the argument that while Labron is a physcial marvel-it doesnt mean that he has gotten to there level yet.

  40. chaos says:

    Man if you gave the majority of the players from the early 90s the rules today, they would dominate. Talking bout not only jordan or bird but barkley, clyde, worthy, old school penny would kill todays players. Also lebron isn’t the best at his position yet.

    @dagomar-man lebron didn’t have to face something called the jordan rules. Put dennis rodman, rick mahorn or bill lambieer on him and I guarantee lebron would be mentally broken down. He got a tech last night bitchin bout a non existent foul. Dude has been babied in this league.

  41. YOUNGFED..."I don't make it rain I make it hurricane" says:

    I see yall avoiding my question. Name on SF that you would rather have than Lebron (and yes todays Bron). The answer is none.

  42. fallinup says:

    FED…give me Bird,any day of the weak. Bron aint got shit on Larry Bird.

    I’ll take the guy that can hit a clutch free throw.

  43. fallinup says:

    You’re a fool, FED. Get off that Lebron juice before he tears an ACL.

  44. YOUNGFED..."I don't make it rain I make it hurricane" says:

    Oh and BTW I’m not getting into the Jordan over Kobe debate cause everybody has their unchanging opinion in regards to that subject. But I will say this Jordan NEVER EVER PUT UP 81 POINTS IN 3 QUARTERS…Because he couldn’t.

  45. EZ says:

    where does pippen rank in this list??? jw.

  46. that's whats up says:

    FED, Jordan didn’t put up 81 points because he didn’t give a f*** about that shit. He only cared about his rings, all six of them – threepeatedly.

    Kobe can kiss it when compared to MJ.

    Seriously, somebody send some game tapes of MJ over to FED’s house – he needs to learn some respect.

    I agree with you on most things, but damn FED – we’re talking about JORDAN here….

    “you guys all know the answer would be Lebron. So stop with this Bird, Doctor J, and James Worthy BS” – and to that one I don’t even know what to say. My guess is you are under 30 years old, closer to 20 if you really feel that way.

    FED, I like you, but you need to recognize….

  47. JCARR says:

    @fed
    read this… and learn something
    http://www.nba.com/jordan/jordan_63moments.html

    Excerpt from article:
    “I didn’t think anyone was capable of doing what Michael has done to us,” marveled Celtics ace Larry Bird. “He is the most exciting, awesome player in the game today. I think it’s just God disguised as Michael Jordan.”

    LBJ or kobe are not “disguised as God”… get that your thick brain.

    Kobe put up 81 in 4 quarters against the cRaptors…
    AND MJ PUT UP 63 POINTS AGAINST THE MOST TALANTED TEAM IN NBA HISTORY (Celtics in 1986)

    On April 20, 1986, inside Boston Garden, Michael Jordan put on an unforgettable show.

  48. jayslay says:

    im taking bird or dr.j rite now ask me in 10 years mite be different

  49. Mister Sun says:

    @ all
    if you really want to argue, say some at least partially right things.
    kobe NEVER put up 81pts in 3 quarters.( it comes from youngfed, so no problem, he obv. knows nothing about the nba. finally some guys recognize that)

    jordan didn’t come back in 2000. he didn’t average 17 a game. the big rule changes were made in 04(hand checking especially)

  50. YOUNGFED..."I don't make it rain I make it hurricane" says:

    @Thats whats up
    I told i’m not gonna debate Kobe/Jordan. However I do “recognize” and what I “recognize” none of those SF were more skilled than Bron. Also would everyone stop talking about rings like it validates a player greatness, if so Robert Horry is the best that ever did it. lol

    @JCarr
    I thought I told I don’t talk to PU$$Y BOYZ. LMAO
    PS….Seek anger management bruh, whats with all the capitalizing…DAMN Dude???

  51. YOUNGFED..."I don't make it rain I make it hurricane" says:

    @Mister Sun
    http://www.nba.com/news/kobe_81_index.html

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=260122013

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dailydime-060123

    Any one of those articles all tell you Kobe score 81pts. So next time know what you’re talking about before commenting.

  52. jayslay says:

    @Fed
    honestly i think kobe and jordan are just about equal….i dont think kobes better but i do think kobe would give jordan more problems than anyone ever did because he would make jordan work…however i still think jordan is the best EVER…..i think kobe is the closest thing to jordan and the closest to being anywhere near the best…but as of rite nowise dont kno if kobes the 2nd best whereas jordan is clearly #1or at worst #2

  53. JCARR says:

    @fed
    lol… real classy… you should seek some help http://www.nimh.nih.gov/

    And like i told you before I cant stand stupidity… and obviously some of the things you type are clearly STUPID!

  54. that's whats up says:

    damn FED, okay then. respect. Kobe’s ya boy. Stick to your guns.

    but damn, if you ever catch any replays of Jordan Era Bulls games, just watch it closely and see how he really controlled each game. I mean, from the first tip you knew Mike was not fucking around. The game was his. It was incredible.

  55. fallinup says:

    You’re a riot, Fed. Keep the crap comin’. Someone get Fed some ESPN classic or something. He needs it.

  56. Mister Sun says:

    @ youngfed
    wow, as ignorant as i thought.
    you said kobe scored 81 in 3 quarters, which is WRONG.

    you dont have to tell about this game, i know the facts, you obv. dont.

    and to say bron is more skilled than bird was is just dumb. he may be some day.
    where is lebron more skilled at?
    please dont tell me at jumping.

  57. that's whats up says:

    “what I “recognize” none of those SF were more skilled than Bron” – they said that same shit about Harold Miner

  58. jayslay says:

    @sun
    ok so jordan didnt come back in 2000 big whup i was makin a point
    ok he didnt average 17 but lets see what he did do……he is the oldest to score 40 or 50 in a gameand he did it more than once so yea i made a mistake lol

  59. jayslay says:

    @ Fed

    man u wrong kobe score 81 in 4 quarters he did the 62 in 3 quarters
    its cool tho kobe is my fav as well but u giving these dudes amo…and they runin wit it…i dont agree wit everything u say but as far as kobe goes he’s the best now and the best in this era

  60. YOUNGFED says:

    Woooowwww, 4 quarters 3 quarters yall really missing the point.

  61. Celts Fan says:

    @Fed – HERE’S your list.

    PG: Magic (love Oscar, but it’s not a ?)
    SG: MJ (sorry, but Kobe’s not even close to him and it’s not a debate.)
    SF: Bird (though he’s probably just keeping the seat warm for Bron, dude’s gotta make a few more jumpers, do it a few more years, and get at least ONE chip. We can revisit this in 5 years though.)
    PF: Duncan (no ?)
    C: Wilt (I’d def. put Wilt and Russell over Kareem. Both were more dominant physically. Kareem was a puss. I was gonna go w/ Russell, but his hands are too weighed down w/ rings to get up and block shots anymore.)

    and, since we’re gonna do this, my top 10 all time players:

    1. MJ
    2. Magic
    3. Oscar
    4/5. Russell/Wilt (Russell accomplished much more – 11 chips, 2 NCAAs, and a gold medal, but Wilt did more individually, so I wouldn’t argue either way, but there’s no clear answer)
    6. Kareem (nice game, too finesse for my taste though to put top 5, though, honestly, after the MJ and Magic, I wouldn’t argue w/ anyone rearranging anything from 3-6.)
    7. Shaq (if he actually gave a shit about conditioning, he coulda been top 3.)
    8. Timmy (if he screamed and acted like a dbag more, more people would recognize. I wouldn’t argue flipping Timmy and Shaq either.)
    9. Bird
    10. Kobe (win just 1 chip as the best player on your team and don’t be a dick to your teammates for 1 season and I’ll bump him up over Bird. This may’ve changed by June…)

  62. Ric Hardwood says:

    Get off LeBron’s jock… he’ll get to be GOAT, but Bird won 3 consecutive MVP’s in a more physical era… and Bird is far from being as athletically gifted as Lebron but he dominated more athletic guys… it’s all about Heart and brains and Bird had that more than any SF… don’t put LeBron on the pedestal yet… he’ll get there eventually…

  63. fallinup says:

    “Woooowwww, 4 quarters 3 quarters yall really missing the point.”

    No, the point is crystal clear. You don’t know shit.

  64. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Celts
    damn bro you must be like 50, everybody on your list is over 60. lol
    I bet you think players back then were better than todays.

  65. JCARR says:

    @fallinup
    Couldnt agree anymore with you!
    Fed’s just so consumed with the modern era that it doesnt allow him to see beyond idealism.

  66. jayslay says:

    i guess ppl cant be human and make mistakes now huh guys

  67. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Jay
    Some people live frustrating, depressing lives and need to vent. It’s all good I could careless.

    “I’ll be your Huckleberry”, Doc Holiday – Tombstone

    lol

  68. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    Oh almost forgot
    @Fallin up
    I know how to get this Paper homie. lol

  69. baron von faulk says:

    damn fed if i didn’t know better i would think you get some kind of $ check from dime for increasing their website hits by stirring up some controversial bullshit all the time (politics, top 5′s, et al), cuz ya always posting some ign’ant shit holmes! the funny thing is i think you do it on purpose.

    i have this cousin who used to deliberately say shit he knew was wrong just to see what my reaction would be, or constantly ask questions even though he already knew the answer for himself just to piss me the hell off, b/c he knew it worked. this act seems so familiar, you ain’t my cousin Lee are you?! haha

  70. Celts Fan says:

    @Fed – there’s no one currently playing that’s better than anyone int he top 6, that’s why it’s like that. Shaq, Timmy, and Kobe belong in the top 10, but they don’t touch the other guys above them. Sorry, but they all have flaws (except Timmy who just plain isn’t as good as the bigs I put above him.) Bron’s got a chance to climb that list, but you can’t put anyone that’s only been in the league for 6 years there and Kobe’s never won shit as the best player on a team, so how can you put him higher (yet)?

  71. baron von faulk says:

    now who’s your huckleberry?

  72. baron von faulk says:

    and i will say regarding the glorification of the modern era…

    people were putting Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco (after the 40/40 year) as the GOAT and then we found out they were “juiced”.

    now it is entirely possible some of these guys in the NBA today are GMO, you are seeing body types that have never existed before (LeBron and Dwight Howard come to mind) and i am sorry but that shit just does not come naturally, it ain’t evolution i’ll tell you that. i am not claiming conspiracy, i am only saaaayiiing

    Anything is possibuulll

    god damn i hate that quote but it fit so perfectly in the dialogue!

  73. JCARR says:

    @baron von faulk
    Preach on…. i agree with you too

  74. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Baron
    You know your right Dime should be paying me for this sh^t they ain’t wrote an article all damn day. lol

    Well atleast it was entertaining. BTW what I say is what I believe, I don’t do it just to stirr sh^t up.

    @Austin
    Yall got my address and Pat knows my real name. SO CUTT THE DAMN CHECK!!! LMAO

  75. jayslay says:

    @celts
    if ur logic for not having kobe in the top 5 bcuz of not being the best on his team when winning a ship then how the hell do u have magic #2??? how many ships did he win without kareem???

  76. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    ^^^CHURCH^^^

  77. baron von faulk says:

    funny man, you prolly should get paid

    glad you have a sense of humor and not in attack mode all the time, i thought you’d wanna go to war like scarface over those comments

    and re: w.i.s.i.w.i.b., now we know you are just disillusioned, hehe (well i’ve been knowing that for like a year – jokin’). as they say opinions are like Aholes, and you are mos def entitled to your own.

    if fed thinks LBJ is the greatest, let ‘em think it. but these other folks do have a valid point that he does need to accomplish something first (he has made it to the finals and he will get his mvp this year along with all those “youngest” records he owns so far, that’s a good start).

    You ask “Who would you take over LeBron in their prime?”, lemme ask you this…Do you think LeBron has even reached his prime? Cuz I don’t. And when he does, your argument will then stand on it’s own merit is what I think.

    Your point may be fantastic one day, it’s just premature timing, based more on potential instead of kinetic reality. If you say LeBron has the potential to be the greatest SF ever then you my friend are 100% correct.

  78. fallinup says:

    “Oh almost forgot
    @Fallin up
    I know how to get this Paper homie. lol”

    Funny, I thought food stamps came on an ATM card now.

  79. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    No I don’t think he’s reached his prime and he’s still better than all those legends.

    @Celts
    The future is now!!!

  80. baron von faulk says:

    fallinup that’s called an EBT card

    not defending fed or anybody else, but if he works on his semantics just a bit then his points would come across as more valid

  81. baron von faulk says:

    I’ll try my hand at fed-style blogging

    TOP 5 greatest by position

    PG Tony Parker
    SG Manu Ginobili
    SF Bruce Bowen
    PF Robert Horry
    C Tim Duncan

    now if that don’t stir up some hate nothing will!

  82. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Fallinup
    You soundin’ a lil bitter son. No worries the Recession is all most over. Too bad it never started for me. LMAO

    Baaaaalllllliiinnnn!!!!!!

  83. jayslay says:

    @ faulk

    lol thats funny man…

    fallinup
    whats wrong wit u….this is a basketball site arguing about someones wellbeing or whatever is stupid…..let it go if it aint basketball dont post shit and the shit ur saying not even funny or correct get it together dawg

  84. Amar says:

    the jazz suck. why didn’t andrei play more? sloan totally should have called a time out earlier in the 3rd quarter . . . it’s not like you get an extra 5 points at the end of the season for every time out you don’t take . . . bad loss for utah.

  85. Dagomar says:

    Celts Fan,

    Respect – quality lists all round. I’d knock down Oscar (always thought his stats were a bit inflated) and knock up Bird/Kobe, but still good. Anyone who complains about who isn’t on that list: check out the NBA’s history, there have been a shitload of AMAZING players. McHale probably wouldn’t crack a top-20 list and he was head and shoulders better than Dirk, Bosh, or Amare. Puts things in perspective.

  86. fallinup says:

    hey jayslay. When you got something of value to say to me, get FED’s dick out of your mouth before you do. You defending that chump doesn’t do anything but make you a chump. You speak more nonsense than your butt buddy anyway, so you tellin’ me how to talk is stupid. Get these nuts together, DAWG.

  87. jayslay says:

    fallinup
    u weak man u real weak but hey if thats how u feel then fuck it…..
    put it to u like this i wasnt defending nobody im jus sayin this is a basketball sit lets leave it to basketball…and the fag boys like yourself get on here and post shit about ppl cuz they dont agree with you really…u gota be like 15 u gotta be alil kid……i feel bad for u

  88. doc says:

    I feel Fed,Bron cant be the best ever yet but dont act like he wouldnt give Bird 50 anytime he want.Bird could give it back though.But u cant say he cant be up there when yall throw dudes like Bernard King who was nice but what the fuck did he win?What Barkley or Malone win.That dont stop nobody from gobbling they balls.If u down Kobe for not winning it all as the man dont dickride doc(Moses),Worthy(3rd best on his teams)and dudes of that nature.I know how good these cats was just like we know how good Bron is and the truth is he would stand out on any court at any time.With that said heres my fav 5,Magic,Air,King,Big Fundamental,and Dream.And we will run u or Larry Bird out the fucking building.Dont tell me I need classic sports neither because I seen any greatness on that court more than once.Its just I respect Bronl.I think yall just dont like it because he still destroying yall teams on a nightly basis.If Fed woulda said Nique or somebody like that he wouldnt have got screamed on like that just because Nique old.And whoever said Mike aint care about what he scored is just wrong.Dudes see what they want to see.Mike done slapped the shit out of dudes for not giving that rock up.

  89. dagwaller says:

    Magic
    Jordan
    Bird
    Duncan
    Russell

  90. fallinup says:

    Check the posts jayslay, then get back with me when your up on it. As you can see, my posts left basketball when your beloved Fed couldn’t come back with a valid response as to why his attention whoring non informed list was plain ignorant…hence his, “I get paper retort.” He has no valid retort, because he don’t know shit. So read up before you try to talk me down, bro. All you do is make yourslef look like an ass.

  91. Dagomar says:

    Doc: good post. Honestly I think Bron is turning into the best SF ever in front of our eyes, and yeah if I’d want any SF on my team right now it might be Bron. I also think Bron could give Bird huge problems; he’s probably a better player right now than Bird was. But as far as top-10 lists go, it’s really flawed to put a 23-year-old who’s never won a ring over three-time MVP, three-time champion Larry Bird.

    Also if you talk about MJ, it’s important to consider the rule changes and important to consider he changed ALOT as a player. He used to be pretty selfish (for a guy averaging so many assists) and he used to be a poor shooter. Point is he always worked on his game and flatout dominated a much tougher era.

  92. fallinup says:

    Dagomar.

    Spot on post. And let it be known, I hate all of this Bron is Best talk….he’s not GOAT, but like many many other players…he has the potential, and is probably the one with the best potential. But I’m not going to drool until I see it. I’ve said it before, the man is bad.

    But damn, he could have already been GOAT if he hadn’t been praised as it for soooo long.. already.

  93. fallinup says:

    I’m not sure if that last sentence made sense. LOL

  94. Mark says:

    Seriously, how many people have witnessed (much less remember) even one game by Dr. J, Wilt, or Magic, or whomever. Oscar Robertson ended his career in 1974. Even if you were BORN on that year (hence no recollection of greatness, other than recordings), you’d be 34. I sincerely doubt most here are 34+.

    Statistically it’s comparable, but honestly, Top 10 rely on personal speculation. My top 10 list is compiled from eye-witness, hype, and bias, and I’m sure as hell others do too. As aforementioned, rules change too, so how are any of our arguments (based off statistics) comparable?

    It’s all speculation, so why are we being so harsh on opinions? You can’t correct ignorance on these boards, and most are just aggravating the situation.

  95. tim says:

    actually, not sure if anyone cleared this up, but YOUNGFED is wrong with Prince coming off the bench…their starting lineup is small ball with Rip at the SF and Prince at PF…

    Stuckey
    Iverson
    Rip
    Prince
    Sheed

    bench

    Bynum
    Dyess,
    Afflalo

    Maxiell hasn’t been getting as much time….and Amir is on the bench as usual with Kwame

    No lie i was next to the Pistons bench and Walter Sharpe (who has narcalepsy, where you consistently fall asleep) was nodding off behind the bench…funny stuff.

  96. K Dizzle says:

    Would the Clips give up Z-Bo right now to get Brand back?
    just wonderin

  97. wwill says:

    Tim, YOUNGFED is wrong on a lot of things. Don’t bother correcting everything you see wrong — there isn’t the time in a day.
    I don’t comment here too much, but from what I’ve seen, his ignorance is at Palin-esque levels. He doesn’t understand that you have to be great for a career, not a couple years in LeBron’s case, to contend with the legends on Best Ever lists. Example: Penny Hardaway. Where does he rank now?
    LeBron will climb the list if he continues at this pace. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

  98. vinny says:

    @mark- im way past 34 and I have seen most of the greatest play. But i completelt agree with the rest of your post. That beind said let me do my top 10(not that anyone really gives a shit at this point,lol)
    1MJ(greast combination of physical gifts, smarts,heast, and drive in the history of the game-imo!)
    2. Kareem- i saw him bust wilts ass so CELT FAN he wasnt that much of a pussy-plus he had the most unstoppable shot in nba history-the sky hook-if you were watching the celts in 85 and 87 i’m sure you remember that shot!!
    3Russell-6-10 with great hops-could have played in any era-plus he was great at playing hesd games with opponents
    2ncaa, 1 gold and 9 rings-comon give him his props-plus he played in a time that was really rough for black athletes!!
    4Wilt-dwight howard kind of athelete with shaq(when he was young)size-imagine that!!
    5Duncan-greatest power forward in the history of the game!
    6Magic-6-9 pt guard-damm- but dont think he didnt benefit playing with Kareem! he didnt win shit after he retired!
    7DOC-helped to change the game! he was a thing to behold comoning down court with the big afro!
    7a-Bird-yea Labron can jump higher, but he could shoot better-proved himself in finals pressure and could pass his ass off!! plus he ALWAYS played hard-always.
    9-Akeem(yea Ian i think he’s better than the admiral,lol)
    10-ok let me piss some people off- Isiah-ncaa champion, 2 nba champions-man he was a bad little mf.
    and let me say if Bernard King doesnt tear up his knee he would be somewhere on this list-if you have never seen tape of him he was unbelievable!! man look who i left off, damm- moses. cousy, west, robertson, baylor, frazier(ok i’m a knick fan)shaq, kobe.

  99. vinny says:

    that shit was to long-sorry about the typo’s.

  100. Mark says:

    Vinny: Well yeah, that’s why I put the exception of ‘most aren’t above 34′. You have more insight on the players than most of us even if you merely followed the game. Like my pops reminisces on Bird and Magic, but I have no clue on how dominant they were strictly basing my judgments on highlights and folklore. That’s why I should refrain from putting Magic, Zeke, or Larry Legend on my list. I have no frame of reference!

    wwill: Good point with Penny. A legendary career generally requires retrospective analysis, so hopefully Bron Bron will continue to play at this ungodly level, and sans injuries. Injuries, quite literally, make or break your career.

  101. Jeremy J says:

    Give me Walt Frazier over Magic, the man had some D. Also my man at 61 had Kobe as top 10…ahead of The Dream?!?! Really!?! Why does everyone hate on Olajuwon so much, dude is a top 5 center right?

    1. Wilt
    2. Russell
    3. Shaq
    4. Kareem
    5. Hakeem

  102. jason says:

    check this video out…hahaha

  103. Celts Fan says:

    Ya he is Jeremy, he’d be jsut outside my top 10.

  104. weezy f says:

    lemme put all this shit to rest

    I AM THE GREATEST TO NEVER PLAY THE GAME

  105. baron von faulk says:

    dear dime,

    please mention the spurs game tomorrow so rangerJ won’t slander you again.

    there were only a few games today and spurs/thunder was a good one.

  106. Lady Luck says:

    Where’s the fantasy doc?

  107. Richard Wellner says:

    go Knicks. look for D’Antoni to receive a standing ovation.

  108. JCARR says:

    DIME are you still alive?!?!?!??!?!?!??

  109. dlee says:

    Lebron is one ‘chip away from being the best SF ever…but who knows when King james when win it all, especially with his current team.

    I’d have to give the advantage to Lebron over Bird, but just by a little bit. Both are great offensive players, but neither one is/was particularly great at D. Both are great at making their team better and are natural leaders.

    Lebron might be the most athletically gifted ever, combining power with speed and finesse.

    However, Bird had the mind and attitude of a killer, cold and relentless.

    Wild guess: Lebron distances himself from everyone else in a couple of years when he wins several championship in NY and becomes the greatest player ever!
