Tuneup Fight

Kobe BryantKobe Bryant (photo. Mannion)

If what we’ve seen so far this season is any indication, the Hornets don’t want it with the Lakers come playoff time. Last night’s L.A. win was their second in New Orleans, and their second in relatively easy fashion. “Two of our worst games have been against this team,” Byron Scott said afterward. “It could be us, it could be them. It could be both.” Granted, the Hornets didn’t have Peja in the lineup, but he wouldn’t have helped stop Kobe (26 pts, 12-for-15 FT’s) from driving or dropping high-post jumpers at will, nor would he have helped free up Chris Paul (17 pts, 10 asts, 6 stls) from the Lakers’ stingy defense … The Hornets had their chances, namely when Kobe had to sit early in the first quarter with two quick fouls, but they didn’t capitalize. When Kobe came back in the second, L.A. dominated, capped by Kobe drawing three defenders and finding Pau Gasol (20 pts) for a corner three that put them up 19 at the half … Maybe he can blame it on a slick spot on the floor, but Rasual Butler will be clowned in film session for getting dropped by Luke Walton … The Lakers needed that win — more importantly, they need that kind of win — going into the big Christmas day matchup with the Celtics, because Boston looks unstoppable. The Sixers became victim #19 as Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett scored 18 apiece while the C’s cruised. The Boston crowd had moved on and was chanting “Beat L.A.!” midway through the fourth quarter … We don’t wanna accuse anyone of anything, but who would be surprised if Leon Powe failed a steroids test right now? Dude is a monster. Between guys like Powe, Dwight Howard and Craig Smith, and Blake Griffin on the way, we need to bring back the NBA weight-lifting contest from back in the day. The last time we can remember, Charles Oakley and Kevin Willis were going rep for rep in the finals … Don’t forget about the Cavs, though. In what LeBron called a playoff-atmosphere game — and T-Mac complied by scoring four points — Cleveland outlasted a scrappy Houston squad to stay undefeated at home. Mac was a non-factor, Yao was in foul trouble most of the night and scored 13 of his 19 points from the line, but guys like Skip (20 pts) and Ron-Ron (14 pts) picked up the slack. LeBron scored 27, including a head-at-the-rim ‘oop finish via Mo Williams. Late in the fourth, ‘Bron pinned one of his Yao’s shots on the glass for what basically a defensive dagger … Serious question: Can Ben Wallace still dunk? … And what’s the early line for the Cavs/Wizards Christmas game? A 20-piecing? Thirty? Thirty-five? … Jarvis Hayes owes Devin Harris a steak dinner, ’cause Devin saved Jarvis from goat (not G.O.A.T.) status at the end of Nets/Pacers. Jersey was up one with 10 seconds left when Jarvis inexplicably decided to leave Danny Granger wide-open 17 feet from the basket in order to double-team Travis Diener. Granger drilled the easy shot, but on N.J.’s turn, Devin (29 pts, 11 asts) calmly hit a pull-up J over Jarrett Jack at the buzzer to win it … The only explanation we can think of for Mike Dunleavy Jr.’s yellow jacket is that he’s got an inside joke going with fellow Dukie Shane Battier

Allen IversonAllen Iverson (photo. Gary Land)

Allen Iverson left Pistons/Bulls with a groin strain and went 0-for-7 (5 pts) before getting hurt, but no one noticed because Rodney Stuckey was ON FIRE. He dropped 40 points (15-for-24 FG’s, 9-for-11 FT’s) while looking very A.I.-ish as he lived in the lane … Is Derrick Rose hitting the rookie wall? He’s approaching that 30-game plateau, around the length of a college season, and remember that Rose didn’t play too many tough games at Memphis since they were blowing everyone out. We’re asking because Rose has been kinda getting worked over lately, first by D.J. Augustin last week and then Stuckey last night … Other big stat lines from Tuesday: Joe Johnson had a triple-double (20 pts, 11 rebs, 11 asts) in ATL’s win over OKC; Vince dropped 38 on the Pacers; Emeka Okafor went for 29 points, 18 boards and three blocks in beating the Wizards; Tony Parker gave the Wolves 36 points in a win; and D-Wade stamped 32 points, eight boards, eight dimes, three blocks and three steals on the Golden State JV Warriors … The Northwest is the only division where we’re already talking about the standings, ’cause you know it’s going down to the wire. Last night the Blazers beat the Nuggets to split their home-and-home and force a tie at the top, while the Jazz dropped an inexcusable one in Milwaukee to put them behind the pack. Denver used a double-team scheme to shut down Brandon Roy the other night, but Tuesday he got loose for 19 and made plays getting to the rack, getting to the line, and dishing out of the trap … Greg Oden, meanwhile, was invisible: Eight minutes, five fouls, zero points. The Blazers announcers are notorious homers, and the only good thing they could say about G.O. was that he stayed in the game mentally from the bench, standing and cheering as Joel Przybilla clocked 19 boards and 10 points … Blazers color commentator Mike Rice: “I have one less tattoo than Kenyon, and a thousand less than the Birdman.” … Was it casual Tuesday in the “NBA Gametime” studio? C-Webb looked like he was stopping by the set before heading off to a Christmas party, and GP had some kind of Vampire in Brooklyn thing going. Really, though, it took a minute for them to grow on us, but we’ve come to love the Webber/Payton/Ahmad team. That said, Ahmad really needs to sit down and learn who the names of the League’s non-superstars. He’s good for 10 mispronunciations a night … We’re out like Oden …

C’s will beat LA on Christmas bt get beat in the finals. Lakers 2009 champs.

  2. JHov says:

@ that Ahmad comment: I think he gets tipsy backstage before he comes out..Dude is lost without his scripts! But that trio is hilarious! (like a train wreck I can’t look away)

I can’t wait for this 5 game(quintuple-header?) Christmas day marathon! I might not even see my family on the 25th! Just leave the presents next to the tv!

THE LAKERS R BACK BUT THEY NEED A BACKUP PG BADLY. DFISH CANT CUT IT FOR 35 MINUTES…..

  4. Duke says:

I’d take the Cavs over the C’s right now IMO.

  5. John says:

Iverson in the All-Star is a shame , he is doing nothing right now. There is a lot of guys that deserve more than him. But he will go because of his name.

  6. K Dizzle says:

    Stuckey for 40? damn…

“Really, though, it took a minute for them to grow on us, but we’ve come to love the Webber/Payton/Ahmad team.”

Really??? Constantly talking over each other. Repeating jokes that aren’t funny or laughing at things that do not appear to be joke. Every good player on every team somehow should be included in the allstar game, or according to Ahmad, is in MVP contention. Egregious overly indulgent name dropping. What’s not to love?

When I would watch Payton play and his mouth would be running constantly, I remember wondering what he was saying to bother the opposing team. Now I know what he was saying. Any inane gibberish that would come into his head, including a lot of repetition of words that aren’t really words but are really just sounds like “ptah” or “shawish” which he finds to be endlessly hilarious. I’ve taken to watching Gametime with the sound off, why would I want to voluntarily subject myself to his verbal diarrhea technique he perfected over the years to bother and throw off the competition?

  9. Mister Sun says:

    @ Atom
    anything else? lol
im sorry for you, you need help

  10. Celts Fan says:

Gametime’s amazing, not up there w/ TNT yet, but it’s still great TV (though last night’s was kinda off. think they were all fighting off the night before.)

and how could Ahmad mispronounce so many names, to hear him tell it, everyone is “my main man.” He’s no Stu Scott, but he’s no Gus Johnson either…

  11. TJ says:

LOL @ “In what LeBron called a playoff-atmosphere game — and T-Mac complied by scoring four points”

  12. Richard Wellner's Cousin from the North says:

I agree with Atom. Three low-intelligence hoods who got lucky and landed jobs on television. Disgusting.

  13. JT$ says:

The Glove/C-Webb combo are music to my ears compared to NBA TV’s Steve Smith and Eric Snow…they are fucking atrocious. You would think because{and I’m guessing here} Smith and Snow are prob smarter than C-Webb and Glove, respectively, that they would do a half decent job. But no. They suck anyways. Seriously, how is Jamal Mashburn the best analyst out of all 5 of those guys?
Even tho Iggy hasnt had the greatest start this year, it doesnt help the rest of his team is fucking horrible. I wish he was on the Cavs so I could watch him beat the Celtics in the ECCF this year. Dude had 5 dunks in the first half, and two of them were in KG’s grill. After putting up 12 in the first half, his teammates werent even giving him the ball in the second half, certainly not in any position to score. Is it just me, or would Andre Miller put up the same stat line in a 7th grade girls game(-25 last night?!?!)? Did anyone else see Reggie Evans airball a free throw by like 3 feet in the 2nd quarter? What a clown.
Kobe’s baseline dunk last night in the 2nd qtr was FILTHY.

  14. Chaos says:

How many bad games has D-Wade had in this year? 3? he has never been better than he is this year and miami will prolly be in the playoffs just because he is playing out his damn mind. more so how lebron has been taking his team to the playoffs with garbage offensive teams. hopefully he wont wear down before april. Stuckey is doing what detroit has finally expected him to do and may just keep it going if they have any chance to make any noise…is it me or is okafor destroying garbage to mediocre centers but getting worked by the better ones(, jefferson, howard, yao, etc)? he puts up some monster stats like every 3 or 4 games. i am not a laker fan but fisher needs not be the starting PG in LA.

  15. Brown says:

Youngfed, I knew you’d be all hyped about Stuckey from last night. It’s one game though dude. Don’t get ahead of yourself.

What was with the announcers for the LA/NO game? One of them kept going on and on about how the Lakers were playing better without Kobe on the floor. The other guy was like “you’re saying LA is better with Kobe on the bench?????” Then he went on for another 5-10 minutes trying to justify what he just said.

How many steals did CP have last night? In the first quarter he was getting his hands on everything.

  17. Junio says:

Better Dime not talk about him, not jinx him….

  18. Junio says:

This way he can keep racking double doubles….

  19. Big Freeze says:

Detroit would be much better with Stuckey as their starting PG and bringing AI off the bench i.e. Ginobli and Terry.

  20. Richard Wellner's Cousin from the North says:

That’s what I thought they were going to do when they traded for AI, but I guess his ’superstar’ status prevented them from doing it. It’s time, though, that they get over that, and do what is right. AI off the bench, where he belongs, and start Stuckey. Sick of AI, man; one of the most overrated players ever.

  21. it aint easy being green says:

oh boy, what are those lakers gonna do tomorrow?????? things are lookin tough

  22. Striz88 says:

Loveeeeeeeeeeeeee the GLOVE on NBATV. He’s absolutely hilarious. CWebb not so much though…

  23. Richard Wellner's Cousin from the North says:

The Lakers will win, man. Everyone’s acting like the Lakers are in trouble and whatever, but they’re 22-5 or something like that. How is that trouble? Also, they’ve had a MUCH more challenging schedule than the Celts so far. So expect them to be ready.

  24. tim says:

AI would be nice off the bench…but the Pistons still don’t have a Center. Kwame doesn’t count. What the hell happened to Amir Johnson? Dude was starting and now can’t even sniff the court.

So far the small lineup is doing ok…it looks like Iverson is starting to get better, too bad he got hurt…but Stuckey is a beast! and its gonna be strange watching him match up with Billups when they play Denver, then proceeding the go right by Billups every time…

Now Imagine Stuckey, Iverson, and Hamilton all just going off on one game…that’s a high scoring trio.

  25. doc says:

Stuckey got off but ROse only played 18minutes because of foul trouble. He was working them other jokers over.

  26. rangerjohn says:

ha big freeze AI off the bench? YEAH RIGHT, ego says NO!

have to say i sure hope manu just has some scar tissue andn ot another ankle problem. he has not been on his game lately

  27. Celts Fan says:

@Wellner – here’s a list of teams each team has played that you would see on the schedule and think “they may lose this one:”

Bos: Hou, Det twice (once before the AI trade, once right after,) Por, NO, Atl twice, Den (after becoming an actual team by getting Chauncey,) Phi twice

LAL: Por, Hou, Dal twice, NO twice, Det (w/ AI,) Den twice (once when AI and Melo were taking turns jacking, once w/ Chauncey right after the trade,) Phx twice, Phi, Orl, and Mia.

so, that’s 11 “tough” games for the Celtics and 14 for the Lakers. More for LAL, but not exactly “MUCH” more.

we’ll see what’s what tomorrow, but to say they’ve had a much tougher road is a homer spin on something that’s gonna be settled on the court (for now anyway) in 24 hours, so why bother?

All I’m saying is when Rondo goes off for 20, 7, 7, and 3, the “is he an All Star?” debate will be settled…

  28. Kobeef says:

Next year will be exciting for the Pistons.
I expect Joe D. to let AI and Rasheed walk and let the kids play for a season before he grabs someone from the class of 2010.

Pistons starting lineup in 2009? My guess

    PG – Stuckey
SG – Rip (but I think he will be traded before next season starts)
    SF – Tayshaun
    PF – Maxiell
    C – ??

Seriously, the Pistons need to sign 8-10 players next summer just to fill 15 roster spots. They only have 6 player under contract and $33 Million in salary.
    C -

  29. G says:

    Its a Christmas Miracle!
Randy Foye went for 28, and 16 reb! but just 1 assist?!?!?!

  30. G says:

My bad 26 and 16. Still youd think Timmy D woulda grabbed some of those. Guess big Al was keeping him busy

  31. that's whats up says:

you know what I can’t figure out about Detroit? is that people still care about that team.
Aside from YOUNGFED there are maybe two other Pistons fans.

The team is done – they thought AI would help, but Rip cries in his face mask for Chauncey before every game and hasn’t done shit since he left. They are done. New coach, new players, newfound mediocrity. They are done.

  32. that's whats up says:

…oh, and Happy Holidays to everyone. Treat your fams right for a few days because you know it ain’t easy.

Treat them better than I treated the Pistons in post 31 – lmao

  33. Richard Wellner's Cousin from the North says:

@Celts Fan, so that’s 3 more “tough” games for the Lakers, by your own criteria. Now, I’ve quickly counted how many back-to-backs each team has had. I got Celts at 4 and Lakers at 7. And, just by my casual observation, the Lakers have had a significantly higher number of “tough” teams in their back-to-backs when compared to the Celts.

  34. Kudabeen says:

Vampire in Brooklyn Though?? LOL…Too Funny…Gametime does get on my nerves after a while. The transitions are sloppy, Ahmad looks like he hasn’t been doing this for 20 years and that is mostly because GP and Webb are always clowning…C-Webb has been asking much better questions as of late. The questions he had for Chuck last night were excellent…

AI going to the All-Star game is lame, although I thought he was going to turn it up after getting more of a green light, but I had the wrong piston guard in mind…Stuckey was owning the paint. Still no signs of Rasheed…Is he really stinking it up or is it something that the team as a whole is doing to him…He is just invisible…

Devin Harris and D-Wade are just sick…Wade last night was casually carving up the Warriors last night…He is looking more and more like the most intense competitor in the L…LeBron is THE best player…Kobe is the most Talented… But with that Wade is doing all one man can to keep his team from sinking…I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls a Kobe and puts up a 70-80 point game this year…

  35. Richard Wellner's Cousin from the North says:

I would be very surprised if Kobe “pulls a Kobe” and puts up 70-80 points.

That was not “pulling a Kobe”. He did that 80 point game against a garbage Raps team. He’ll be lucky if he gets 30 against the Celtics.

  36. Kudabeen says:

On Ben Wallace Dunking…This photo makes it look like that isn’t even a question…I do think he is being reserved about how much he plays above the rim to protect the health of his knee…

    http://www.nba.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0812/gameaction1223/content.1.html

  37. rangerjohn says:

@ g yeah you would think uncan would have grabbed more then his 12 boards but then he was to busy blocking out al jeff, assisting parker, and blocking the guards from the wolves. all that in 33 minutes

  38. G says:

@ rangerjohn. I didnt see the game. So was foye just hustling his ass off or were there lots of long missed jump shots with long rebounds? I seriously thought it was a mistake when I looked at the box score.

Side note: Are the Bucks, dare I say it, a decent team? could they make the playoffs? I wanted to just write them off but theyre playing better/togher than I expected.

  39. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Thats whats up
Damn homie you going hard at the Pistons son, thats not whats up bruh. Today is a good day Rodney Stuckey is born so nothing can bring me down.

    @Brown
Stars are made in just one game. None of these so called most improved PG’s that Dime and the NBA are hyping has scored 40 (eg. Rondo, Duhon, Harris, Rose, Mayo, Westbrook, D-Will….I could go on for days) Hell I don’t even think CP3 has. So no Sir this is not just ONE GAME.

  40. JCARR "K1N6" says:

go nets and the lakers are going to win against boston.
So is D-Rose out of the all star race?

  41. Celts Fan says:

@Wellner – then relook at the schedule, cuz they’ve (Celts) have played 7 back to backs already (admittedly mostly against crap teams, but what can you do.) My only point is that to say either team has had a “MUCH tougher” schedule is just wrong.

This is a dumb debate though, in the end it all evens out, we’ll settle it for now tomorrow and, if both teams do what they should, we’ll see each other again in June.

  42. vinny says:

so hopefully there are no longer any questions on whether Devin Harris should be in the all star game!
and if Rose doesnt pick it up Rondo is going!
or maybe mo williams? I turned on nba tv last night and soulja boy and alan thicke were performing and they were interviewing Rudy from the cosby show- wtf?? Rudy has grown up to be a cute woman though!

  43. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @FED- harris has-scored 40

  45. Celts Fan says:

@Youngfed – CP3’s definitely dropped 40 before. I do like Stuckey A LOT though. Hand him the reins full time next year and watch out.

@JCarr – I think Rose has been passed by Rondo (and the rookie wall.) He’ll be there soon enough though, dude’s legit. It’d help if the Bulls could knock down some shots so he’d get a few more dimes…

  46. D.H. says:

    @dime

going by your rule JJ’s triple-double can’t count cause he was playing the Blunder.

  47. DETROIT CAN SUCK IT says:

Youngfed you are such a loser homer and on top of that you have ZERO creativity

Stealing Gee’s “Fill in the blank today” at least his is RED

  48. BROGDEN says:

“T-Mac complied by scoring four points…” {— LMMFAO! That’s too funny yo! I’m crackin’ up as I type. Fa real, I saw that game, he doesn’t know the definition of a ‘difficult shot.’ They weren’t falling in for him (by this point in his career you’d think he’d know not to shoot those when he’s cold)

Crazy how Yao and T-Mac were non-factors on the court. I mean Yao went to the stripe a bunch of times but when he was on the floor it was NOT pretty. He was missing 4 footers like a worried parent. Oh yeah, I like Aaron Brooks. He single handedly made the game interesting in the 4th…

  49. QQ says:

Damn. Stuckey’s sticking (yeah, pun, I know) them jumpers like A.I. Oh wait, I mean, the way Rodney’s ballin, Iverson wishes he could play like him. The Answer look confused on the court right now.

And yeah, Iverson will never miss an All Star because most voters are casual fans who will pick a 20 point scorer over a 50% shooter and will pick Baron Davis over John Stockton because Diddy could jump. It’s a popularity contest.

PS: TMac a non factor? Come on now, stop being redundant.

  50. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Celts
    You’re right, 43 vs. Memphis 12/07/07

    @Vinny
    your right also, 47 @ Phoenix 11/30/08

However as you guys can see this puts Stuckey in a very elite class of point gaurds.

    Rondo will never score 40

  51. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @47
High Hater. Merry Christmas however I see your’s ain’t to merry.

    Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

I kill me some times. lol

  52. JCARR "K1N6" says:

Rondo doesnt have to score 40– he’s the 4th option on the team.

  53. vinny says:

2fed- i like stuckey-but he only had 4 assists- when harris and paul score they still create for others- does stuckey create for others?

  54. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    And Stuckeys not JCARR

Rondo CAN’T score 40 with his broke a$$ jumper

  55. vinny says:

you know fed 47 sounds like a ‘dick wellner’ kind of shit-maybe thats his alias, lol

  56. isotope says:

i missed the 1st half of the Hou-Cle game but the announcers said the refs pretty much took Yao out of the game and the rockets still made it relatively close. Wonder what would have happened if Yao played the whole game and TMac’s back was still kicking at the end of a back-to-back.

  57. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Vinny
Win harris scores 40 he ain’t creating for nobody but himself. Chris Paul probably could do both. But there’s only like 3 guys in the league that could do that. CP3, K-Hova, and Bron Bron. And Stuckey ain’t none of them…….Yet????

  58. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Vinny
It probably is??? That’s why they call him Dick “Trickle” Wellner. lol

  59. vinny says:

@fed-when harris had 47 he had 8 assists and when he had 41 against dallas he had 13 assists- when he had 38 on det he only had 2 assists though

  60. Amar says:

sucks that the jazz lost, but it was the end of another 5 game (9 days traveling) east road swing (through the states with the worst weather right now for flights), AND they played without their major front court pieces (no memo, no booz — plus deron, AK and sap are all banged up). it’s a tight race but honestly, portland is too young, denver is looking good right now — but once utah gets healthy they’ll end up winning the division. utah sucks against the east, but they are still perfect against division opponents and 12-2 vs. the West.

portland and dever both have 9 losses in conference play already — and they haven’t faced so many important players being out like the jazz have faced.

  61. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Vinny
Stuckey can’t help it if nobody else can make a shot.

    To All Dime Fall
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Half Day at the Office today……HOLLA!!!!

  62. YOUNGFED..."Let's talk about $money$ cause I get alot of that" says:

    @Vinny
Stuckey can’t help it if nobody else can make a shot.

    To All Dime Family
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Half Day at the Office today……HOLLA!!!!

  63. BROGDEN says:

When Harris scored his 40+ points, he also had 13 dimes. Soooooooo he IS creating for somebody other than himself.

It was right there man, I’m sorry. The Nets offense is built off him creating for himself and others though.

The problem with the Nets roster is, Vince is the only guy in the “other than himself” department.

  64. Sanpitch says:

Thanks Dime for the big stat lines. It’s nice to see other people besides Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Celtics, and Lakers get some love.

  65. San says:

    Chris Paul was outstanding. again.

  66. Celts Fan says:

@Youngfed – you’re probably right, Rondo will never get 40 (unless it’s on 20 lay-ups!) but Stuckey will never be a FORCE on D and in the top 2 in the league in steals and isn’t quite the playmaker Rondo is (cuz he doesn’t have to be/that isn’t his exact role.) Different players, different roles, LOVE both of their games though. They’ll both have long, successful careers shutting up the doubters…

  67. Celts Fan says:

and yes Youngfed, Merry Christmas man. hope it’s a great one

  68. QQ says:

Stuckey over Rondo. Any day of the week.

    And I hate the Pistons.

  69. doug says:

Stuckey, easy that cats a stand alone good ball player but Rondo wouldn’t be as good if he didn’t have KG,Pierce or Ray Allen, a true all-star is an all-star regardless of the team you put them on.

  70. PALakerFan says:

Good luck tomorrow Celts Fan. I hope your boys get their asses handed to them.

Lakers and Celtics are the top 2 teams and I get to hate the Celtics again. All is right in the world!

  71. PALakerFan says:

Oh yeah, Brogden, “missing 4 footers like a worried parent” LMAO. That’s some good shit!

  72. SWAT says:

man real talk i had stuckey at the beginning of the fantasy season but dude did not come out of the gates as expected…now i see i made a dumb move dropping tht cat. damn damn damn!!

  73. girlybballluver says:

Someone please fill me in…what does “IMO” mean?

  74. frankie says:

Kobe scores 12 from the line, no big deal.
Yao scores 13 from the line (on perfect shooting) AND helped foul out Big Z and almost Anderson Varejao (4 fouls), and it’s a bad thing.

Would have been nice if T-Mac (Mr. “I’m better than Manu”) would have showed up.

…hopefully no one is looking at Stuckey OR Rose for All-Star anymore.

  75. dagwaller says:

    In My Opinion.

Merry Christmas all – enjoy the great games over the next couple days.

Oh yea, and enjoy your family, too!

  76. QQ says:

Merry Christmas to all ballers here…

  77. GEE...Stop lying, you fa real??? says:

    Houston Up!

Even wit the loss it’s all good, cause things will come and fall in where they are suppose to be.

Anyway, most def. all the Dime crew and err body that comments and all have a Happy Christmas. Eat well.

Although “Beat L.A.” just has a certain ring to it, I will certainly be pulling for tha Lakers!

For selfish reasons, but still go Lakers …except Pau …. I don’t like him.

  78. Celts Fan says:

@Doug and QQ – Stuckey’s not exactly playing with bums and nobodies either. Til he gets some consistency, rebounding, and defense, he’s not better than Rondo. give it time, it could very well shake out that way (definitely possible!) but right now, you just can’t say that.

  79. BROGDEN says:

“Stuckey will never be a FORCE on D” { — WHOA!

That’s like me saying Rondo will never be a FORCE on O (like Stuckey is?)

What a statement! Like Rondo? Wow. What Rajon does good: rebounds, steals, makes hustle playss, sets up his All Stars perfectly, and has a nice teardrop floater – VERY NICE. But he still STINKS when it comes to scoring in the half-court set outside of the paint. Rodney is OUTSTANDING in the half-court offense.

I’m not saying Stuckey is the better guard, I’m just saying these guys are young and have PLENTY to improve on during their respective careers…too early to prognosticate on burgeoning stars.

  80. Celts Fan says:

@Brogden – I agree completely, that was a response to “Rondo will never drop 40 like Stuckey” so I hit ‘em back w/ a “Stuckey will never be a force on D.”

Of course it’s way too early to predict any of that, but I had to fire back…

also, he may stink at shooting, but he understands his limitations and doesn’t take many jumpers. the vast majority of his shots are lay-ups (which is why he has the highest shooting % of all non-bigs in the league) and he gets into the lane pretty much at will when he decides to (admittedly, a by-product of having to be single-covered cuz of his teammates, but again, Stuckey’s not exactly balling w/ the Bobcats either.)

I was just answering a “never” with a “never.” I honestly love both of their games and hope they both become godly over the next decade. Stuckey’s fun to watch…

  81. doug says:

Celts fan are you serious? Comparatively speaking Stuckey is playing with bums and Rondo doesn’t have anyone challenging him for that point gaurd time.Stuckey’s time is divided by a lot of big names AI and Rip Hamilton. Man yall celtic fans are on something different. Rondo is a good role player but he’s not heard of without those cats(KG,Pierce,Allen). Answer this, would this cat be who are you claiming he is on the Warriors or Clippers? I don’t think so. He’s a good
    role player at best.

  82. Bron42 aka Thugnificant says:

The better question is if yao can still dunk…how are you 7′6 and gettin pinned on the glass a foot from the basket? i mean seriously…and Brogen, tmac only took 7 shots (8 if u count his 3) so its not like he was out gunning and went 1 for 30. So obviously he knew he was cold. And yao was 3-10 so lets not make it like he beasted either…all of houstons starters were ass cept skip.

I don’t think the lakers have much of a chance with farmer out…Fisher can’t keep up with rondo at this stage can he?

The wizards lost to the bobcats….I say griffin ends up a wiz.

could you imagine how miami would be if they had someone on the court over 6′8

  83. jones says:

Lakers can beat the Celtics easily. It all depends on how they choose to play Rondo. The Big 3 aren’t Big enough to beat you.

Then again the Celtics can easily beat the Lakers. Gasol, Bynum, Radman and the rest of the laker gang surrounding Kobe aren’t tough enough. If Kobe were on the Hawks he’d beat the Celts almost every game.

  84. doug says:

i like the hawks toughness but those cats can’t close big games. They’re very athletic, tough and mostly they’re not scared of the celtics at all. They play them like they don’t respect them. Josh Smith and Horford always go hard at KG. I saw that classless idiot cursing at fans in the stand in there most recent game at Atlanta. I lose more respect for him everytime I see him running his mouth.

  85. Celts Fan says:

@Doug – on a shit team, Rondo’s still a better TJ Ford w/ great defense and no spine injury (and without the gunner mentality.) The rebounding, passing ability, and amazing defense don’t have anything to do w/ his teammates. The easy drives and amount of dimes do (knock it down about 1.5 a game with mortal teammates.)

AND he’s only playing 30mpg, so it’s not like he’s playing 48 minutes per.

Say what you will about his teammates, but you can’t have the best shooting percentage of all non-bigs in the league (we all know that jumper’s broke, but that means he knows too and plays within himself unlike guys like TJ Ford who still insist on jacking like they’ve got Stuckey’s shot) #2 in steals, and top 10 in dimes just by accident/having great teammates or Derek Fisher would be running shit in those categories too (not a shot at Fish, just saying.)

You do realize that Stuckey gets to play w/ Rip, AI, Tayshaun, Sheed and McDeuss right? all of those guys are pretty fuckin solid, will knock down open looks, and demand attention from any defense they’re playing too. He’s not passing to scrubs either and he’s being forced to be covered 1-on-1 too, just like Rondo.

IF that’s your definition of a role-player (and if it is just “a non-superstar,” I could see it) then Stuckey’s a role player too, he just has a different role.

back off Doug, your argument here is baseless and dumb RIGHT NOW. make it next year when he’s a full-time starter and is doing it all year and maybe you’ll have a case (hell, make it in March if dude’s still balling, but you can’t do it yet.) people were criticizing how badly he was playing to start out the year, but now he has a big game and these people come out and try to say he’s better than Rondo already (and again, I think the kid’s gonna be a stud, but you just can’t make that argument YET.)

  86. doug says:

Be easy Celts Fan, I know all you guys have out there is sports, crabcakes, bad weather and trolls for women but that has more to do with you and less do with me. Get a raise or something. Your opinions are driven by your obsessive allegiance with your teams recent sucess and your arguement is supported by nothing but a sheer ignorant obsession and bias for your team. You cats amaze me, you go from being the crap of the league about 2 years ago, actually the year before KG got there I saw a Laker game in Boston and half of you cats were wearing Laker apparel. You guys are the biggest front runners but beyond that just to let you know to your point Rondo defense has everything to do with who he’s playing with, referring to your comment,”…amazing defense don’t have anything to do w/ his teammates”.Obviously you never played ball before, you can’t play good D unless you have good teammates who can cover your tracks. All the greats know and say this. Rondo is locking down anyone on SOLO he has the Defensive Player of the Year pounding cats if they get in the paint and that fat guy-Perkins flat backing dudes that try to get cute in the lane, it has almost nothing to do with Rondo’s skill as an on ball defender.Get over yourself

  87. doug says:

It’s true celts fans are as obnoxious as there team. Before last year you guys hadn’t won anything since 1986 and I thinks it’s for this very reason neither you(the fans) nor your team can handle winning. Your team talks trash like it’s been Mike Jordaning the league running off ships like nobody’s biz but you guys have only won one ring in the past 20 years…so much for the celtic legacy. Cali all day everyday, were we accept nothing less that ships and have been accepting nothing less since day one.

  88. vinny says:

@doug- your opinions and arguments arent driven by ‘obessive allegiance’and ’sheer ignorant obsession’ for your team??? and kobe???? damm dude lighten up -its the holidays.
    Have a great holidays everyone!!

  89. doug says:

AAh vinny, funny I mention ignorance and you instantly start blogging. Firstly, if you read the previous comment my man(Celts Fan)is going hard for no reason. I just said Stuckey is better than Rondo.Vinny, leave it alone get to spooning your boy Ian and working on your two man luge routing for the next winter olympics and stop concerning yourself with a discussion I’m having with someone else.Obviously you just read my Blog and didn’t read this cats prior to mine or you would have seen my response was warranted….Man your an idiot!Pick up a book as a gift to yourself in the name of education and literacy.

  90. doug says:

    BLOG#88″Have a great holidays everyone” LOL. “Have a great HOLIDAY(not holidays)everyone!

  91. doug says:

    who’s gasing this cat?

  92. vinny says:

Oh Doug once again you profess education yet display ignorance- Holiday is for a single day or a vaction -Holidays is acknowledgeing the different religions on here and the many days they celebrate! damm you are such a DH!!

  93. baron von faulk says:

spurs will win the title this season, against cleveland again.

  94. jones says:

You must be joking! Cleveland won’t sniff the NBA Finals. They will be lucky to reach the EC finals.

  95. Celts Fan says:

doug’s right, there were plenty of Bostonians that couldn’t tell you who was on the Celtics before KG. Me? Season tickets for over 12 years so that don’t bother me. I wasn’t one of them clowns chanting MVP at Kobe in Boston. I was repping Big Al and them on here before we ever got KG, so that shit rolls right off me. I’m out.

Doug, we gotta agree to disagree. (and you’re right, defense is a team thing, sure, but Rondo’s individual D has nothing to do w/ guys behind him, it just means that when he does get beat, there’s someone else there, but that’s got nothing to do w/ all the steals and shit was my point.) anyway, we’ll get back to this in a few months when Stuckey’s done enough I’ll listen and actually take it into account, cuz I do love dude’s game.

    happy holidays everyone…

  96. McNasty says:

Rondo and Stuckey play their roles for their team well. They’re not superstars but they’re remarkable lead guards. Anyone who plays ball knows that these PGs are great to have in the team. It’s a matter of preference now.

It’s like picking Rondo coz his name is Rajon or liking Stuckey coz he looks like 50 cent.

Merry Xmas Dime. Keep the good stuff going.

  97. Mo says:

I hope the C’s whip the sh*t out of the Lakers. Merry Christmas.
