Dirk Nowitzki’s Suspension: You Be The Judge
While Dirk Nowitzki was suspended for today’s game against the Clippers for “the punch” he threw at Matt Harpring on Friday night, we thought we’d let you be the judge.
Was Nowitzki deserving of the Flagrant-2?

Ak-47 FLOP OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!
NO flagrant… the refs should know that Utah is a physical team. Better yet Matt Harpring is playing the wrong sport, he should be playing along side Urlacher in the Chicago Bears. Harpring is so juiced up he doesnt even know when he bumps into players. He lost feeling.
Good video@!

whether or not dirk got fouled, and even with kirilenkos flop, dirk deserves to be suspended for WORST TEAM LEADER IN THE NBA, and 2nd least deserving MVP of the past 5 years, with Nash being 1st.

UncheckedAggression says:
The video was a complete waste of time. First of all, did they show the AK clip thinking that it justifies what Dirk did? And it definitely didn’t look like Dirk was being held down–we’ve all seen Dirk play and he never really gets off the ground for a board. Aside from that, it’s the same thing that happens at least a half dozen times in EVERY game. Some players are good at getting away with things like that. I’m not sure I agree with the suspension, but there are worse calls than those almost every night. Get over it.
Was there a video like this about the no-call last year in the playoffs with Brent Barry? Now that was a situation that deserved more attention. At least I think it was last year.

LMAO at good video . . . it doesn’t even show the imcriminating opposite angle of dirk hitting matt in the face with a closed fist. that’s by the RULES OF THE NBA an automatic ejection, F-2 foul.
sure, harpring is an asshole, and this one sided video is even worthy of negative campaign ad status, but it doesn’t even show what did did, which was actually requiring an ejection.
and the AK flop is horrible. i’m a huge AK fan, and that’s just sick — he apparently played solid D on dirk, but the only thing people will remember from that game is his flop on a non-foul. just sick. AK, you’re better than that.

Amar says:
the problem i have with this is that it’s not even like that even HURT harpring (his manditory flailing aside) . . . they should change the rules on this. dirk was just spazzing out himself and hit harpring by mistake.
i’m really pissed about the AK thing, because it’s breaking the rules. it’s not the worst flop i’ve seen, but it’s in the top 5 for sure — all time. he built up a rep for being a good defender, but if he does this he’s going to ruin that image. sure, battier and bowen are good defenders who also flop, but very few guys are allowed to do it with impunity.
as for that harpring fellow (who really is too physical), i’m surprised sloan didn’t put him in there in double OT to play artest . . . we all remember this, right?

Mavs fans are the worst. As a Spurs/Rockets fan, nobody does more whining than the Mavs. They refuse to believe that they aren’t good and this is just a typical reaction by them. Remember when Mark Cuban SUED DON NELSON for insider information after he used ‘knowledge he acquired while coaching the Mavs’ to beat them in the playoffs with Golden State. They feel so entitled, but haven’t done anything. I might not like the Jazz, but they’re still better than Mavs’ fans.

* Kevin Martin
* Scola
* Nocioni
Hall of Fame Floppers: Vlade, Stockton, Ainge, Reggie Miller

Mark says:
Hahaha at that Ron Artest clip Amar. I love Ron Ron and don’t think any of that really warrants T’s or ejections, but hey, rules are rules. Dirk’s arm slinging wasn’t anything major, but the rules were interpreted more severely to set a precedent for future players.
What makes me confused is Harpring’s quote afterwards: “[Dirk] just turned around and threw a nice little punch”. That was the worst ‘nice little punch’ I’ve ever seen. Has Harpring ever been in a legitimate fight? Guess you guys can tell I’m not a fan of Harpring at all.
December 28th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
dank says:
i dissagree with your list Amar. Im from Argentina and ill be the 1st one to jump up and tell you Ginobili is a flopping bitch, but Scola, and Nocioni dont belong here. those are 2 of the 3 guys from Argentina whove played in the NBA (carlos delfino is the 3rd but hes gone to Europe) who arent afraid to take a hit. youtube Scola eating shit courtesy of Rudy Gay, or nocioni getting into it with Dwade and Melo. Also, Dwade isnt much of a flopper. his only guilty pleasure is that as soon as he jumps, he takes out his legs from under him, and always falls. he loves to fall for whatever reason. But nocioni and scola are 2 guys who go hard night in and night out. their not afraid to get inside and take a hit. Ginobili is the same minus the part that he looks like hes fighting off bears, tryna win the Best Actress Oscar award
My list of floppers goes as follows:
1)Ginobili
2)Varejao
3)Fabricio Oberto (just look closely next spurs game)
4)Raja
5)AK
the sad part is that my top 5 list has 4 foreign players. what the NBA has to understand is that these players grow in a soccer-rich culture, where you try to sell a foul to the ref. what needs to be done is simple: severe sanctions, which Stern hasnt done shit about. he keeps saying their gunna crack down on flopping but i havent seen shit in 5 years. i think they should get serious or this shits gunna get worse
PS dirk is still a bitch, please give back the 07 MVP. thanks
December 28th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Mark says:
dank, depending on your view, the Virgin Islands may be ‘foreign’. I remember people saying the Spurs as the most diverse collection of foreign talent, and putting Timmy Duncan as a foreigner.
But that really doesn’t make any difference, I guess. hehe.

GEE...No freakin sauce man, no freakin sauce! says:
First off there is no greater flop in the history of floppindom better than Ak’s.
Dirk most def. deserves any suspension handed down. He needs to learn to control his emotions and concentrate more on “Straight up” shouldering his team and getting them where they need to go.
I also got a problem with Harpring not reacting or no on one the Jazz sticking up for dude. I mean that is your teammate and it’s freakin DIRK. Somebody should have stepped to Dirk and at least had words if nothing else.
Where is the enforcer for the Jazz?
Still Dirk deserves anything handed down.

no sympathy for Dirk, he has flopped many of times just like Ak-47. You wonder why you never see Utah jerseys outside of Utah?
December 28th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Amar says:
do people in utah even buy utah jerseys? i don’t know, i’ve never been . . .
AK has become a flopper of late, and this is something which is impossible to defend as an AK fan. when he was young, and was all about hustle he never flopped, i think something changed with him after all the injuries and he’s trying to play a more ‘cerebral game’, aka, one that does not rely on his natural athleticism (which he flat out no longer has . . .) GEE just feels bad because AK flopped a lot in the last playoffs against your Rockettes.
scola y noce — they are both warriors, but they also flop on occasion. just like how battier is great at taking charges, but he does also flop on occasion. maybe they aren’t top 10 in the nba in flopping, but some of the stuff that you can see on youtube may lead one to believe that they are good at it.
the sad thing is that i think harpring is the inforcer for the jazz (until sloan takes the handcuffs off of fesenko), so if someone steps to him, no one is going to prop him up, lol. probably because no one likes him on the team. also, the jazz do their best to annoy the other team into making mental mistakes while keeping their collective cool. the last time i actually saw a jazz player go a little nuts was when memo was going to punch the shit out of juwon howard in the playoffs a few years ago. the jazz did nothing when baron davis elbowed d-fisher in the back of the head, or took memo out when he was in the air. great “team mates” . . .
lastly:
NO LAYUPS!

AK47 is gangster, that was a fantastic flop. Everyone needs to stop the flop hate; if a player is smart enough to understand the line of sight view of the referee to cause a turnover, smart move. the league needs to allow the refs to hand out technicals for blatant flops like kirilenko’s similar to how they give out yellow cards for diving in soccer. that is, if the refs can even tell that people are flopping bc i see atleast several horseshit calls EVERY game regardless who is playing.

knocks says:
Stupid video….more stupid in the context that it’s being put in.
What has Dirk’s flagrant got to do with AK’s flop??? True, the flop was bad. Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t the NBA started it’s fining for flops yet??? Or not? Either way, bad call, but that has nothing to do with the flagrant. If anything, the AK flop just ends up making the uploader of the video look like a sour grapes (and whiny) Mavs fan.
Then, you have that whole breakdown “Did you see it?” of Dirk getting outrebounded because of a skinny white dude’s hand in the middle of his back. Must not have been THAT big of a push or Sour Mavs fan wouldn’t have had to ask us, “Did you see it?” In any case, once again, what did that have to do with Dirk’s flagrant??? Two words: sour and whiny. Oh wait….that’s three.
Fact is. Dirk’s “spazzing out”, as one of you put it, and flailing his arms is going to be given a technical every time, especially if it connects with some dude’s face. Maybe Dirk should show a little more of that “spazzing out” intensity when going up for rebounds….Dallas would end up winning….and Sour Mavs Fan wouldn’t have to post this………and then Dime wouldn’t have to post this either.
Happy New Year.

That was funny. The Ron Artest vid was even funnier. His offensive game is so ugly but he sure is an entertaining player. Tru Warrior!
The problem with flopping actually started when the NBA changed the rules to protect the ball handler. Now defenders cant play defense w/o getting called for a foul. Next thing we know, defenders are flopping and trying to take charges. If you want to stop flopping then allow SOME contact on ball handlers.

apparently the refs have some internal committee that reviews the calls made in each game, and adjusts how they call things as a result. there should be a committee that watches all the games and fines people for flopping — they may get the benefit of the doubt during the game, but make them pay for it. if you find that you flop less than 5 times in a given week, it’s $5000. if you flop 5-10 times a week, then it’s $7500 and you miss 1 game. if you flop over 10 times a week, then it’s $10000, and you miss three games.
there, flopping is fixed.
