Dwight Howard Is Leading All-Star Voting
Dwight HowardThanks to the Associated Press, we’ve got a breakdown of how the All-Star Voting has played out thus far. Though Dwyane Wade and LeBron have had MVP-caliber first halves, it’s kind of surprising, but Dwight Howard is leading the All-Star voting right now with close to 800,000 votes. Kobe is behind him at No. 2 overall.
Some people expected Yi to have enough votes to beat out KG as the starting forward in the East, but he’s trailing the Big Ticket by close to 150K. Honestly, it’s surprising that Devin Harris, Joe Johnson and Derrick Rose are so low right now. All three of those guys have gotten fewer votes than Luke Ridnour.

and what about granger having only 50,000? whats up with that? and the fact that Yi might START, much less MAKE THE ALL STAR TEAM is absolutely ridiculous. i think there should be some level or numbers that a player must reach in order to be considered. whats Yi’s numbers like 10 and 5? thats bullshit when granger is putting up like 25 a night.

December 11th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
naive says:
you guys are too naive to believe that yi only has 350K votes. You dont think its conceivable that the league has stepped in and reported a lower number than the actual votes he’s gotten? After all the polls are done on nba.com which is run by the nba. All they have to do is make sure he comes in 3rd and he wont make the game.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
what a joke says:
You have to be joking! How does Lamar Odom have more votes than Brandon Roy? Does he even play more than 10minutes a night?
Roy is carrying the Blazers to the 3rd best record in west!
Stupid people shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

AY says:
i don’t know if people remember this, but kobe bryant got voted in as an all-star starter in his second season: he averaged 15 points and 3 rebounds and was NOT starting on the lakers. If yi got voted in as starter, fan voting will not end and in fact, he won’t even be the least deserving in all-star history.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Heckler says:
all star voting is ridiculous.
the format needs to be changed somewhat.
Fans only make the popular votes.
Sports writers only make biased votes.
Players/Coaches make favoritism votes.
I dunno who should vote…but the format has got to change.
A coach should be allowed to coach 2yrs in a row (if their team has the best record by cut off date).
December 11th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Heckler says:
anyway…the nba fakes the final numbers anyway.
didnt tracy mcgrady lead (along with kobe) in votes last year for western guards? but since he was talking shit about going to new orleans, the nba kicked his ass off the voting list and inserted allen iverson.
all of a sudden, tim duncan is listed as a power forward this year.
manu has more votes than brandon roy
kevin durant has no votes?…but his ex teammate luke ridinour has votes?

I love how lamar gets so many votes. it’s hilarious. he’s not even the best tall forward off the bench playing on a playoff team, who used to start on that same team the season before.
no way he should get those many votes, heck, millsap has been better than him this season, and millsap has about 45% of the talent that odom has.
December 11th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Austin Burton says:
Here’s the thing: You can only vote for one center, two guards and two forwards. Dwight Howard obviously has the most votes because he has the least competition for the East center spot. Some fans might vote for LeBron/Pierce at forward instead of KG/LeBron, or vote Josh Smith/LeBron based on who their fave players are. But almost anyone has to give it up and vote for Dwight as East center. Hence, he has the most votes.
And why does Odom have more votes than Roy? Because Roy has strong competition for those votes to be spread.
December 11th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Ian says:
heckler lol any other year id say manu should have mor votes than roy but manu hasnt played again i have no prob who starts is a game for the fans

How about they make it interesting and let the coaches pick all 24 guys…. Raise the winning “pot” to 50 Grand a piece and losers get nothing….. Then the all star game would be much better.

Rafa23 says:
odom damn near averaged a triple double?
did you dream this?
December 11th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
mules says:
@Heckler
You need to read up on the selection process…fan voting determines the starters, after that it’s all up to the coaching staffs. Sports writers, players, and other coaches don’t have any more voting power than a typical fan. I personally think it would be a lot better if sports writers and players did have votes instead of the fan voting…or if fan voting only counted as 1/3rd of the vote.

D.H. says:
should all-stars be based on stats? Fantasy web-sites have managed to rank players based on overall stats. Why not do the same for the all-star game? Al Jefferson should be an all-star imo based on stats, but he does not even make the fan voting list . . .

mules says:
@D.H.
If you’re going to base it on stats, which I don’t think is a terrible idea, it should based on efficiency stats
December 11th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
mules says:
going by the efficiency ratings, if you assume the PG, SG, SF, PF, C, 3 reserve guards, 3 reserve forwards, 1 reserve center line-up) the teams would be:
East Starters:
PG - Devin Harris
SG - Wade
SF - Lebron
PF - Jamison
C - Dwight
East Bench:
Vince, Joe Johnson, Calderon, Butler, KG, David Lee, Troy Murphy
West Starters:
PG - CP3
SG - Kobe
SF - Dirk
PF - Boozer (although this is based on only 12 games compared to Duncan’s 21)
C - Al Jefferson
West Bench:
J-Kidd, Billups, B-Roy, Timmy-D, Amare, Gasol, Biedrins
December 11th, 2008 at 5:49 pm

my bad…replace Jamison with Bosh and take David Lee off the bench

Not surprising at ALL. There is NO competition for Dwight at the C spot in the East. Lebron has to compete with KG and Bosh, for starters.
December 11th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
D.H. says:
@mules
Those look like pretty ‘fair’ lineups for the all-star game. Sure Murphy is not going to be an all-star every year, but guys who can have nights like Murphy did last night and contribute consistently should get the nod now and again. When did Yi last have a 20-20 game?

Bullshit-AI Yi,take the fan votes now.

I guess it does not inlude Yao or T-Mac or Shaq but all-stars are guys who perform, leading their respective teams and the leauge night in and night out.
If the leauge wants to make it a popularity contest at least determine participants by jersey sales or something.
