Dwight Howard Is Still Leading All-Star Voting

Dwight HowardSuperman

The NBA released updated All-Star voting figures yesterday, and if the selections were to be made right now, here’s how it would all shake out…

Dwyane Wade (1,229,858) and Allen Iverson (858,469) would be the starting backcourt for the Eastern Conference, alongside LeBron James (1,259,764), Kevin Garnett (905,506) and the leading vote-getter and Dwight Howard (1,421,882).

For the Western Conference, Kobe Bryant (1,280,912) and Tracy McGrady (746,098) would be playing alongside Tim Duncan (903,311), Amare Stoudemire (626,796) and Yao Ming (1,114,709).

A couple of observations:

1. Why is Luke Ridnour (197,933) so popular? This guy has more votes than every center in the East other than Howard and Samuel Dalembert and countless other guards that could destroy him on any given night.

2. Now I understand why adidas is still spending money on Gilbert Arenas (205,223). The guy hasn’t even played one game all season and he’s garned more votes than potential Rookie of the Year Derrick Rose (203,687) and Top 10 scorer Joe Johnson (162,772).

3. Thank goodness Yi Jianlian (762,162) is comfortably behind the King and KG for a starting forward spot.

Here is the full voting, as of December 25:

okafor aint even in the east’s top 10 centers… damn, i guess that’s what comes with playing for charlotte

  2. rean the bad man says:

that vote4amare website seems to be working huh?

  3. K Dizzle says:

Can we just admit right now that some fans suck? Sorry to attack, but it blows my mind to see 200,000 votes for Gil and damn near 30,000 votes for Haywood, bur I don’t see AJ or Butler anywhere…disgusting

Houston fans are rabid.. They got Scola, Battier, Artest, TMac, Alston and Yao all in the mix. Any other team got they whole startin five and a sixth man in the mix of fan voting?

  4. Ian says:

    amare thing work i guess

  5. Ian says:

kdizzle i dont think that all houston fans those votes come from playinwith yao

  6. QQ says:

Wow. Casual fans at it’s best. Well, that’s the way the NBA earns big dollars, but this will bring tears to any hardcore follower of the game.

Case no.1: Iverson? We talking bout Iverson? I was rooting for him to rally the Pistons when he was traded, but watching him run with the team, it seems that he is rallying the OTHER team by the way his playing. Gunning, turnovers, not involving his teammates. Damn.

Case no.2: TMac. Yall know I fucking hate that dude, but come on, even fans of that guy roaming this site would argue that he ain’t a starter and should not be a starter in the All Star Game.

  7. Ian says:

    k
maybe not scola but the others do get the votes from chinese fans

  8. QQ says:

    Good for Dwight though. ORLANDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. rean the bad man says:

    but i think here’s how it’s going to turn-out:
    east:
    dwade
    ai
    lbj
    kg
    dwight
    devin
    ray ray
    cb4
    double p
    z
    jj
    granger

    west:
    tmac
    kobe
    yao
    amare
    td
    dirk
    cp3
    nash
    chauncey
    carmelo
    shaq daddy
    jkidd

  10. isotope says:

lol TMac is probably going to turn it down like he did last year. Crazy that he has more votes than Paul

  11. Ian says:

damn i want tp in the game
sorry iso i had to say it

  12. dLee says:

they need to stop letting stupid 2nd graders in Idaho vote…

I mean come onnn, Hibachi with 200,000+ votes, and dude hasn’t even played

    Rondo for All Star 2009!

  13. K Dizzle says:

@ post 9. I think you might have nailed it, playa. Except I think Brandon Roy takes JKidd’s spot

  14. isotope says:

i hope the coaches leave Shaq out the game this year. But it’d be funny with Phil Jackson as coach with Shaq and Kobe on the squad. Even funnier if Pop is coaching.

  15. rean the bad man says:

alright alright, broy for jkidd. that’ll do.

and yeah, i must say why the hell tmac is getting more votes than cp3?! oh, did i say the answer already? votes eh… tsk tsk…

    my vote

    east:
    dwade
    devin
    kg
    lbj
    dwight

    west:
    cp3
    kobe
    td
    dirk
    shaq

  16. ian says:

isotope why do you want shaq absent from the game

in my mind hes outplayed yao this year, shaq is playing fantastic for a guy as old as he is with as many miles on him as he has…

even if he doesnt deserve the starting spot he DANM SURE better get picked by the coaches for his great play to be the backup or ill lose faith in the coachs’ picks

    Ian H

  17. isotope says:

cuz there are more fowards/centers that are more deserving. He definitely has NOT outplayed Yao. Are u kidding me?

Yao, TD, Amare, Dirk, Carmelo, and Gasol or Bynum. Thats enough of a frontcourt.

  18. Chris Webber says:

    Only one thing to say..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iK2QgWE_7Y

  19. srb says:

just use the celtics starting 5 for the east starters

  20. Johnny Knox says:

you all are complaining bout t mac, iverson and gil, but id rather see all them start than jianlian even make the team. we all know why hes gettin the votes(not performance based)but still.
also caron butler should be in his spot for votes
    Starters should be imo
    EAST
    Harris
    D-Wade
    LeBron
KG (as much as I hate him)
    Dwight

    West
    CP3
    Kobe
    Amare
    Duncan
Yao(rather have Duncan Amare and a true SF like maybe Melo, Rudy Gay or even Durant but that will never happen and having Yao is at least legit, unlike Yi)

  21. barons beard says:

Just goes to show how moronic people are tbh, the fan vote should be scrapped and the people who actually know the game should pick the 12 best players so far that year in each conference, with less restrictions on positions

  22. Ian says:

    barons
but how exactly do u judge that and what about players on crappy teams does that count?

  23. SayItAintSo says:

    Tracy McGrady, Houston
    Manu Ginobili, San Antonio
    Tony Parker, San Antonio
    Jason Kidd, Dallas
    Steve Nash, Phoenix
    Jason Terry, Dallas
    Rafer Alston, Houston

The fact that all of those guards are ahead of B-Roy (significantly so in some cases) in terms of vote getting, is absolutely absurd. The first couple are good players but due to injuries, have not played better than B-Roy this year.

  24. haslem says:

say Yi got enough votes, wouldnt that be really weird and have everyone questioning the whole system? wouldnt he just get destroyed?

  25. haslem says:

based on this season…VC over AI?

  26. rean the bad man says:

vc over ai, as of this point

  27. rodnets says:

Fan voting should be allowed just as a part of an overall voting, by the media, the players, the coaches and the dime readers.

Yi has lied about his age, we don´t know if he lied about his sex also he should be banned from the allstar, and thats all.

  28. rean the bad man says:

yeah, i heard he lied about his gender! LOL

  29. ticktock6 says:

Whoever said less restriction on the positions, are you kidding? If Chris Paul doesn’t make it, you’re telling me it’s going to be enjoyable watching the West NOT START A POINT GUARD?

It won’t be. It’ll be stupid. They should divide it up into actual positions.

  30. jamesagee says:

since I’m Mexican I’m going to vote for all the Mexican’s in the NBA and the Spanish can vote for theirs. F*ck China. Don’t they anything better to do like put anti-freeze in the toothpaste.

  31. ian says:

    yo iso

i agree with all your suggestions for the frontcourt i do…apart from the OR bynum part

if anyone thinks bynum deserves a spot in the all star squad they are not basketball fans

gasol=fine hes their number one big guy and hed deserve it if he got in, but bynum…this kid better start dominating and quick, he just signed that outrageous contract and he is not living up to the hype at all

and if anyone deserves to get a respect vote its shaquille o neal, he is still one of the most charasmatic players around, whod you rather have?? pau gasol who just sits there and does nothing or a guy like shaq who entertains the people (that 07 dance off was one of the funniest things iv ever seen)

and how yao doesnt average 30 and 15 is the biggest mystery in the world, hes soft and injury prone! if he wasnt chinese….hed have problems bein in any all star game

    nuff sed

    Ian H

  32. SayItAintSo says:

I think they should switch it up. Have the starters voted in by Coaches, first reserves by media and then the afterthoughts can be decided by fan vote.

  33. My 2 Cents says:

There should be a vote to exclude/block players from playing in the allstar game. If that’s the case my vote would be for:
    Iverson,
    Yi,
    KG,
    Carmelo,
    V. Carter and
    All Rockets and Spurs players.

  34. SayItAintSo says:

Here is a great NBSAT analogy

Yi Jianlian is to chinese voters just as
    ___________ is to caucasian voters:

    A) Nick Collison
    B) Luke Ridnour

Best part about this NBA SAT question is that there is no wrong answer.

  35. Luigi says:

damn i think the roster will end up like this

    EAST
    PG. Iverson
    SG. Wade
    SF. LeBron
    PF. KG
    C. Dwight

    Bench
    Rondo
    Devin
    Caron
    Bosh
    Pierce
    Jamison
    VC

    West
    PG. CP3
    SG. Kobe
    SF. Carmelo
    PF. Timmy
    C. Yao

    Bench
    Amare
    Tracy
    Ginobili
    Shaq
    Dirk
    Nash
    Roy

I really want Brandon Roy to make the AST b.c hes done so much for portland in his 2nd-3rd year n i love what hes doing. and also Caron n Jamison make it too. b/c being a wizards fan….its depressing to see when ur team scores 72 pts n 34 of them came from caron…n jamisons been a double double stud. theyre very underestimated b.c. they play for washington..

  36. Vince says:

    @@@ on Ridnour @@@

some chinese fans dont know yi has been traded and still vote for bucks players.

  37. Flip says:

@SayItAintSo: Nice comparison. Nothing to add to that

  38. NYC says:

    LMAO @ 18

  39. QuEsT??? says:

AI Bitchess!!! ajajajajjajajajajaja…………… i heard that david stern made a rule that every vote that went to lebron pierce and kg, it would count as double so that yi wouldnt play on the all star game.

  40. BROGDEN says:

” Thank goodness Yi Jianlian (762,162) is comfortably behind the King and KG for a starting forward spot.” {{{——}}} Awww man, that was really funny Dime. Thanks!

  41. BROGDEN says:

Where is Earl Watson and Mardy Collins? The All-Star Game is a JOKE! Real Rap.

  42. GEE...You can wipe me down! says:

Funny that T got all them votes. That old Mac would be good for one of them off the backboard joints to himself through the lane. Still he should and needs to and hopefully will give that spot to someone more deserving like Brandon Roy or someone.

I bet LeBron “tries” to win that MVP on purpose again as he has done before. For all his talent he can do some lame crap sometimes.

Anyway this season is good and it’s going by way to fast.
    Slow doooown. lol.

  43. Chris says:

Luke Ridnour has more votes than Joe Johnson, Brandon Roy, Billups, Danny Granger and Al Horford. Huh?

  44. Peter Robert Casey says:

What happened to the Yao Ming effect?

  45. bendizzle says:

how is yi 200k votes ahead of bosh? i guess its the kim kardashian effect: they have countless fans that love em even tho they have no talent to speak of. btw, a couple thousand of those Luke “the tower of power” Ridnour votes are mine.

  46. P.C. Peace says:

sup wif my SMACK, Dime? taking too long

  47. doc says:

Yeah Gee because trying to win MVP of the All Star game is crap. What a loser. But I heard Yi aint even Chinese. He came from another planet like them space jam dudes. But instead of stealing AI powers he landed on the other side of the earth and stole the Chinese AI powers.
