Has it really been 15 years?

If the intro doesn’t get you hyped for a game, you have no pulse. (And stick around for Mike discussing his mid-postseason trip to Atlantic City.)

man….am I glad I got a chance to be around & able to comprehend these types of things…it doesn’t (and prob. won’t) get any better than this…

  2. Gary says:

you don’t have to wait another 15 years cuz it’s about to blow up in LA! get your FLIPs ready!

  3. fallinup says:

    Hmmm, the Jurassic Park theme?

I’m amazed that this was 15 years ago. I can tell you exactly where I was, and what I was doing when Pax hit the 3 to give the Bulls yet another title! 3PEAT!

  4. Austin Burton says:

That’s from Jurassic Park? I was thinking it was one of the songs from “Rudy.”

  5. nerditry says:

First time I experienced heartbreak as a sports fan was the 1993 Finals.

If you don’t know about the NBA on NBC, sunday triple headers, John Fucking Tesh and Marvelous Marv, then you don’t love basketball.

Props to NBC for using the Jurassic Park music in the intro.

  6. sans says:

I can tell you where I was for those whole playoffs, especially when they took out the last good run for the Mark Price Cavs. Crazy. It sucked loving MJ and rooting against him from a young age on.

Did I see Tom Chambers in the team intros? Was he still around then, as Barkley’s back up?

Oh, and Mike’s answer to Amad “Dick Lips” Rashad should’ve been–”I’m paid–asking me stupid questions. I can’t go to a mall without being mauled, they have VIP rooms for me in ACity.”

  7. Mamba says:

    Classic.

    Brings back the best memories

The NBA will NEVER be as good as it was back then

  8. Chris Cason says:

No one can set up the atmosphere of a game like Bob Costas.

  9. Vinny says:

Good call Fallinup- the jurassic park theme!!

  10. the antoine says:

between 91 – 2003 .. nba on nbc was the best.. i can still remember as a little 6 year old.. the bulls beating the lakers and me beginning my longtime hate of MJ and the bulls.. as a born and bred LA kid.. Magic will always be the greatest in my eyes.

  11. Both Teams Played Hard says:

So can this MJ in AC thing be seen as the first straw in the de-evolution of sports media into Telemundo soap opera fodder?

  12. webbie352 says:

    man i miss these games.
hahha mike with the shades during the interview

but as a kid i used to freaking hate that guy soooo much.

  13. Kermit The Washington says:

Thank you Dime…..I miss this era. We will never ever have anything like the NBA on NBC with Marv/Mike!

  14. Gary says:

Magic is the greatest! The guy was the MVP of the Finals at 19 . . it took MJ how many years to win? Of couse, i’m biased as a mofo, but seriously . . . who made his teammates better?

  15. Vinny says:

Gimmie a break Gary- i’m sure if maike came in and played with Kareem, Wilkes(who had 37 in game 6 aganist philly), then Worthy in 82, Coop, Nixon, then Scott. Magic didnt win shit after Kareem retired! And lost in 91 to mikes team!! MIKE IS THE GOAT

  16. Vinny says:

    MIKE NOT MAIKE-

  17. Dagomar says:

NBA . . . GO BACK TO NBC!!!!

Roundball Rock was the shit. This was the golden age of basketball.

  18. Dodge Taylor says:

Nobody wondering why Mike was wearing dark shades during the interview??

Maybe it was the thing to do back then (I don’t honestly recall) or maybe he came straight from the poker tables and forgot to take them off!

We’ll assume he wasn’t pulling a Kemp and needed to disguise his bloodshot eyes from a big night out.

  19. fallinup says:

41.0 ppg for MJ during that series. You can’t deny greatness.

  20. analord says:

magic johnson looked so much better then than his current chubby self….guess it’s real hard to stay fit once you are done playing….

imagine Iverson blew up like a balloon by say the year 2020…

  21. P_Dizzle says:

Those were the good ol’ days of the NBA. Bob Costas was awesome, Marv wasn’t pulling weird ‘ish in hotel rooms, and Mike could wear sunglasses during a nationally televised interview and talk about Atlantic City with a straight face. If Lebron or Kobe did that the sky would fall.

The NBA needs to go back to NBC and bring Marv and Bob back.

I remember hating Mike and when Mike hit John Paxson for the game-winning three I lost part of my soul. I am a Jazz fan, but I hated everything about the Bulls and wanted Chuck to get that ring. I have still never recovered from that. And don’t even get me started on the game winner over Bryon Russell…..

  22. Joaquin says:

Greatest of all time. 41 points per game in a finals series.

  23. itsakademiks says:

ahmad was the only nigga jordan fucked with lol son got all the exclusive interviews and peep jordan wit the shades nigga was leaning looooooow

  24. Dragonyeuw says:

Man… I miss NBA on NBC. That theme song meant triple header sundays. The good ole days!!

  25. Trey Wingbat says:

The NBA on NBC is the greatest sports telecast ever. Period. I’m glad I have plenty of old Jordan games on tape. If anyone is interested, email me at trey_for3@hotmail.com to find out.
