Is Rasheed Wallace On the Market?
SheedDespite back-to-back wins, the current state of affairs in Detroit is definitely uneasy. Michael Curry admitted that players “have bad body language when teammates get beat,” and added that “guys have bad body language if a guy takes a bad shot.” So what’s the solution?
One proposed move is to send Rasheed Wallace out of town, possibly to the Western Conference.
“That’s a ‘Mark Cuban move,’ ” said an Eastern Conference executive. “Cuban would take Rasheed, no question. It would be bold, but he knows he’s got to do something to spark his team.”
But who would the Mavs be able to give up to get ‘Sheed? The Michigan Live blog suggests ‘Sheed and Alex Acker for Dirk, but that’s a tough situation to imagine. It doesn’t really make Dallas better. And, odds are that if Wallace is unhappy that they traded his guy away from Motor City, he’d be a major headache if he were sent to another city.

Wallace is way to overrated…If he did focus he wouldn’t be a superstar or anything. The hype he gets gave him the allstar status he currently holds which is still overrated…Nobody has seen him focused enough to be superstar worthy so why keep goin on what if’s.this is like way past his 10th NBA season give it up he won’t become a beast his prime has long past

caeubona says:
what irks people about rasheed wallace is that he is supremely talented, but also supremely unmotivated. if he had the fire and passion of kevin garnett, he could be one of the premier big men in the league. instead, he is content with taking three pointers instead of banging it inside. rasheed is a head case, and dallas would be insane to take him. then again, mark cuban has been known to take risks. *cough*jasonkidd*cough*

LOL – Rasheed Wallace and Alex Acker for Dirk Nowitzki?! Where’s that blog from, really? Michigan? I’m shocked…
That just made my day.
And seriously, in an effort to avoid pointless debates:
ANYONE who believes that kind of deal would be even remotely fair for Dallas has absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of basketball.
I have spoken…

It’s amazing how the whole league respects Sheed and at the same time guys who can’t even play ball (Dime posters) hate on him sooooooo much.

@ Quedas
i feel you.
cuban aint gon trade no dirk for sheed. maybe if we were talking an 04 sheed for an 08 dirk then ok…but i don’t see this happening.
sheed used to be one of my favorite players but i can’t support plain and indefensible underachievement anymore. Not when my other favorite players- or rather players i enjoy watching- unquestionably give their all every night.
that being said, a lot of ya’ll at dime have been anti-sheed for a while (Hello Austin). I’d still bring him to the bulls if we we had a ben wallace type work horse that rebounded like crazy and blocked mad shots (like a stronger and unselfish tyrus thomas if with a defined roll that helps the team)

The Raptors should definitely try to get Sheed. They can use the grit (not so much the bad shots tho) a lot.
Would be a shame to give up Bargnani, but if im BC I’d at least consider it. Numberswise it’s probably not going to match, but it would be a fun idea.

Dagomar says:
Yeah, and how about Sheed for Lebron James and Mo Williams? Maybe throw in Daniel Gibson to sweeten the deal.
The only reason Sheed hasn’t been traded yet is because it’s tough to find teams who want an aging, often-disgruntled big man who rarely gives maximum effort and lives on the perimeter.

Seriously, FED. Just cause you have a mancrush on Sheed doesn’t mean you get to hate on the entire website! Hahaha.
Anyway, no, that wouldn’t be a fair trade at this point in their careers. Sheed used to be very good, but Dirk is still playing at a near elite level. A better trade might be Sheed for Dampier? More shots to go around in Detroit, Dallas finally gets a functional center? Salaries might even match up?
He’d be like a less shot block-y version of Ben Wallace.

Kobeef says:
I’m going to go against the grain here and say this is complete BS and there is no way Detroit is trading ‘Sheed. Why?
1. Rasheed’s trade value is probably at the second lowest point of his career (not as bad as the Jail Blazers era). He has been fully and completely exposed as a talented but lazy worker who won’t give his all even if he is on a winning and supportive team.
2. Rasheed and AI both come off the books at season’s end which gives Detroit $30,000,000 in cap space and a year to build a supporting cast for a superstar from the class of 2010.

He would look nice on the Spurs, but the Spurs have nothing to send back in return.
I agree with Kobeef. Sheed’s best attribute right now is his contract that comes off the books this summer. The only way I give him up is for some young talent I can re-sign with that cap space, cuz they ain’t getting a player as good or better talent-wise.
PFs I’d rather have on my team than Sheed:
Garnett
Duncan
Bosh
Amare
David West
Boozer
Dirk
The only reason you can make a case for Sheed is that his defense is better than everyone but the top two.

Maybe my mavs would take Marbury for Kidd and Wright, and then Josh for Jerome James. And finally Dirk for Wallace. Now, the mavs are a much better team. And maybe we can find a way to get Antoine Walker …

Kudabeen says:
Only way it will be good is if they get a young guy that’s on the cusp like a Lmarcus Aldridge type talent, but That guy isn’t out there. If they really think they are going to compete. Rasheed is the only one that would keep teams like the Cavs and Celts honest… Motivate him or ride his contract out. I don’t see them getting a real big time talent to replace the match up problems he still provide.
Is there a team that is welling to give up a budding star for a vet to get to the next level? Don’t think Portland want any parts of Sheed…Outside of picking up dirty work type guy like Emeka or possibly prying Nene from Denver, there would have to be a number of bodies exchanging teams to make it work This Year for the Pistons. They seem to be a lot better when they speed up, but they don’t have protection in the paint to really rebound and block shots. I don’t see the talent that would justify trading a 4/5 like Sheed…
In the End. In Joe I trust, so he will do something sensibly respectful no matter what…
