Jazz Owner Slams Carlos Boozer
C. BoozWe said yesterday that this wasn’t the best time for Carlos Boozer to start spouting off about how he’s planning to opt out at the end of this season. He’s been out for the last fifteen games, and in his absence, Paul Millsap has been a monster.
Jazz owner Larry Miller would agree that Boozer shouldn’t have opened his mouth - but he didn’t say it quite as nicely.
Miller slammed Boozer in his weekly radio appearance on KFAN 1320, saying, “It’s one of the top 10 stupidest things I’ve heard an NBA player do in 20 years.”

Richard Wellner says:
I agree, it was pretty stupid.
I mean, what kind of person says what Boozer says in the first quarter of the NBA season?
Selfish, at best; downright DISGUSTING at worst.

Richard Wellner says:
They should trade him now and cash in. Milsap is the future, man.
They could get D.Lee for Boozer!!

dagwaller says:
Agreed, Richard.
Maybe Brand is pulling one of those breakup moves, where he wants to break up, so he starts talking about dumb stuff just to start a fight with his girl.
…so yea. Carlos Boozer is dating Larry Miller, but wants a breakup.
December 19th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Richard Wellner says:
Maybe, dagwaller. I don’t think he mindlessly said this, he had to have known what he was doing. It is surprisingly selfish, though.
What are the chances of him getting shipped out before the deadline?

Three Stacks says:
I can see why the owner is upset, but Boozer is just speaking the truth. He’s gonna get paid (probably a higher salary, many guaranteed years), so why wouldn’t he opt out?
If anything, get mad at him for being such a pussy and missing 15 games. Stop being such a pussy! Suit up!
December 19th, 2008 at 11:26 am
JCARR says:
Let Boozer walk… he is a narcissist.
Millsap could be “the real Karl malone incarnate”
The owner has had enough of Boozer and its pretty obvious why.
Agree with Wellner Lee for Boozer would be good.
What are other trade scenarios though?

dmitry of jersey says:
you’re surprised that the guy who screwed over the Cavs the way he did is being shady again?
December 19th, 2008 at 11:33 am
Richard Wellner says:
Good point, comrad dmitry. I guess I am not that surprised, but I AM surprised at his timing! What the hell.
December 19th, 2008 at 11:35 am
dagwaller says:
Haha, Bron, great point.
Three Stacks brings up an interesting one, as well. Does anyone think that Boozer will get paid more than 12 mil a year? I personally don’t see him as an elite player, deserving more than 15 mil. I think 12 a year is actually pretty fair, all things considered.
December 19th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Richard Wellner says:
True dag, but you know wha’?? You just KNOW some jerk in the NBA will give him much more than that. If you look at the players that have gotten max money in the past, Boozer cashing in wouldn’t be that surprising. He’s a 20/10 guy.
But someone pointed out, I forgot where, that Boozer leads the league in blocks-against. If this is true, then that’s a little bit alarming.

This isn’t related to Boozer, but something that Van Gundy said the other night, that was referenced in Smack…looks like his idea wasn’t THAT crazy!

Three Stacks says:
I think Boozer would be less effective in D’antoni’s system. His game seems best suited for a controlled, half-court offense.
The Cavs might want him, Sczerbiak’s contract and Varejao for Boozer would work. Then they have a better shot at a title this year, and they can let him walk w/o messing up the cap space to re-sign Lebron.

Richard Wellner says:
Pigs will fly the day that the Cavs pick him up again. Woah.

miamiVIS3 says:
3-way deal
Boozer to Miami
Matrix to Cleveland
Wally World and Varejao to Utah
I’m not sure if the numbers work but it works all around. The Heat get a head start on building Chemistry with Boozer as well as possibly starting to move Beasley to the 3 as well as getting rid of Marion who doesn’t really fit in with the way the Heat play. The Jazz get rid of Boozer who obviously wants out add another dead eye shooter to Kyle Korver and allow Millsap to move to the starter without losing energy off the bench since they’ll get Varejao. The Caves get who they want (ellegedly) and worst case scenario have more cap space next season to get some help for LeBron.

Pretty dumb
Talking about opting out when the season has barely started and you aren’t even playing is almost as bad as talking about your 2010 free agency TWO YEARS early.

what he said wasn’t stupid but he just shouldn’t have made it public like that. let the man make his money and quit hating. he’s just keeping it real. if he opts out and gets less, so be it. he’ll get around 12mill anyways. you got guys like deng, iggy, bogut, okafor making around that kinda money. boozer, like him or not, will command at the least 12.

@MiamiVice
That is an awesome trade…but I don’t think Cleveland would help Miami get Boozer. I think boozer is over rated but he could help Miami and cause trouble for Cleveland.
Boozer to Toronto for Bargnani and Kopono?

fiyaman says:
I think he said it so they wouldnt trade him.. no one is gonna want him for 1/2 yr.;. unless its some team just trying to shed salary and no I dont want the sorry ass loser in NY.. he is from Duke and those dudes cant win shit
December 19th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Three Stacks says:
@ akademiks
Yeah, they don’t, but I doubt they wanna be over the cap and pay a dollar for dollar tax on Lebron’s salary.

He’s not worth 12mil ..he’s is very overrated and wouldnt make it in da East where they actually play defense… thats y he ran in the first place.. all they teach u at duke is how to shoot

DJ Go Go Gomez says:
Regardless if he’s speaking the truth or not, the timing is bad. This is something you say AFTER the season. Not during the season. And NOT when you’re injured. He’s made himself a distraction to a team that is a legit contender. Just dumb.

P_Dizzle says:
Unfortunately Booz will get more than $12 mill / year. If people like Rashard Lewis and Gilbert Arenas are making max money or close to it, then Boozer will get it.
I’m not a Hear or Cavs fan but I don’t imagine either team wants Booz. Cleveland got stabbed in the back by the guy. That’s like a dog eating it’s own vomit. I don’t think they want anything to do with Boozer. Miami has a younger version of Boozer in Beasley. Don’t know why they want to overpay to have to of the same guys.
I think the Jazz would be smart to keep him and let him walk away so they can give Boozer’s money to Millsap and not tie it up on someone else via trade.
Boozer will end up getting max money for someone like the Grizzlies, OKC Thunder, or Charlotte.
$12 mill / year is fair money for him, but hell when has that mattered?
He’ll get his “raise”. He don’t deserve it, hell half the NBA players don’t deserve the money they’re getting but he’ll get it.

#31 with the economy the way it is I think you are going to see players not gettign the huge money the way they were in the past. Teams are still in the business to make money and if deflation occurs and people jsut aren’t willing to spend as mch on game tickets, food and merchandise the owners are going to start making cuts.
You can already see it happening in baseball.

Boozer was pretty selfish for sayin this. but the guy is an all-star power forward. he’s one of the top 10 4’s in tha league for sure.
@bballinca
were already seein salary cuts in baseball? tha yanks jus shelled out $160 mill to CC Sabathia (richest contract for a pitcher in MLB history) and another $85 mill to AJ Burnett. Teixeira’s guna get at least $160 mill from either Washington or Boston. so not really seein your point bro.

rick773 says:
I hate to stradle the fence but I see both points. I agree with the owner’s point of view especially considering the fact that they still have roughly 2/3 of the season left on a team that could very well contend for a title and he’s got his mind on greener pastures. So yes it’s selfish. But he did the same thing in Cleveland and then he was leaving the best young player in the league at this time so everybody should know hes out for the dough. So I mean it’s no secret where his priorities lye Loot 1st winning 2nd.
