‘Melo Drops 33 In The Third Quarter
Entering tonight’s game, Carmelo Anthony‘s season high was 30 points. Tonight, he scored 33 in the third quarter.
Check out the stat line: 12-15 from the field, 4-5 from behind the arc and 5-6 from the line in the period. At one point ‘Melo was NBA Jam hot making eight straight shots and scoring 24 straight points for the Nuggets. He finished the game with 45, just four shy of his career high.
Anthony tied the NBA record for points in a quarter, set by San Antonio’s George Gervin and broke David Thompson‘s Nuggets team record of 32. Amazingly, both records were set on April 9, 1978.
Gervin’s 33 points came in the second quarter en route to a 63-point game at New Orleans on the last night of the regular season. Earlier in the day, Thompson had scored his 32 points in the first quarter at Detroit before finishing with 73.
The players had been locked in the closest scoring race in NBA history. Gervin entered the night game needed 58 to win the crown, and was able to barely beat out Thompson.
How far can ‘Melo take the Nuggets this season?

‘Melo WASNT REAL during that 3rd quarter against the T’wolves… dropping 33 in just ONE quarter…. WOW…
Watching the game it looked like the T’Wolves didnt care!
They probably want McHale out of Minesota as quick as possible. Who doesnt?

Being a disgruntled fantasy owner of Melo it was great to see him explode in this game! Steals, points, triples, boards … the whole works. Where has that Melo been hiding??
No love for the White David West’s perfect vision (20-20) day?? Murphy was gobbling boards like it was Thanksgiving!! Not to mention his points, triples and assists. Loving it.

33 in one quarter is INCREDIBLE. Wow. Weird that he only finished with 45 (especially when the other two guys who did it both cracked 50), but hey he got the win.

Professional scorer.
When the inflammation in his elbow goes down, he’ll get it going more consistently.

Melo has now done something Jordan, Kobe and LeBron have never done. I’m not saying he’s better than any of these guys, but now there is no reason not to give him some love as one of the greatest pure scorers to ever play the game. Go Nuggets!

Bkbouncer001 says:
Melo will take the Nuggets beyond the first round this year, simply because he is finally the man on this team again. Billups may be just as clutch, but Melo is undisputedly the best player on the team. If Iverson hadn’t been brought in, the LeBron versus Melo debate would still be going on.

sick. just sick. i mean that was george gervin’s record he just tied. and the iceman led the NBA in scoring for like, 4 seasons. and even kobe never did that, not in his 62-through-three-quarters, not even in the 81 point game. sick.
(and he had 11 rebounds too!!)

bigdoggchad says:
Melo had 26 straight not 24. @JCarr The timberwolves were actually up by as many as 16 in the first half, 12 at the break, and cut it to 4 in the fourth quarter so don’t give that the wolves weren’t playing hard.
