L.A. Lakers @ Memphis: Kobe Bryant vs. O.J. Mayo
When O.J. first arrived in L.A. as an incoming freshman at USC, he and Kobe went at it during some summertime pickup games. Mayo has been called a shorter version of Kobe by some, and if his first couple months as a pro is any indication (20.3 ppg), that may not be as far off-base as you think. Not only does O.J. have his best-case scenario lined up across from him tonight, he’s also got a ticked-off Kobe who is aiming to snap a two-game losing streak. (NBA League Pass, 8 p.m. EST)
L.A. Lakers @ Memphis: Marc Gasol vs. Public Decency
Have you seen Marc shoot free throws? (Oh, and there’s that matchup with Pau.)
Portland @ Denver: Brandon Roy vs. George Karl
With ‘Melo out of action, Karl has to do more than hope to out-shoot Roy, who is averaging 36 points in his last five and coming off a 52-point explosion. Dahntay Jones is stuck in that Starter Who Plays 15 Minutes role, so he won’t be the primary guy; that leaves Chauncey, J.R. Smith, ChuckAnthony CarAtkins, and maybe Linas Kleiza as the best options. Toronto @ L.A. Clippers: Chris Bosh vs. Zach Randolph
A few weeks ago, the suggestion that Zach was playing more like an All-Star and MVP candidate than Bosh would have been silly. Now it’s a reality. While CB4’s Raps are at a low-point, having lost five straight and recently dropping one to the Thunder, Z-Bo (aside from a stinker in Milwaukee over the weekend) has been a 30-10 machine.
