NBA Trade Rumor: J.J. Redick for Grant Hill?

Grant HillGrant Hill back to Disney World?

Here’s a trade rumor that would make Dickie V‘s head blow up. Send Grant Hill back home to Orlando in exchange for J.J. Redick in an All-Dukie swap.

Hill would give the Magic’s bench a savvy veteran who can still score and play defense in bursts at playoff time, although Hill favors starting to keep his old bones warm.

The salaries of Hill and Redick — Dukies from different generations — almost match at around $2 million.

Redick wouldn’t mind a ticket out, either. He’ll go back to being the fourth-team shooting guard after Mickael Pietrus returns in a week or so.

The Orlando Sentinel’s Brian Schmitz tries to appeal to Steve Kerr‘s supposed secret desire to have a guy with a skill set similar to his on the roster. But thus far, the former sharpshooter has been all about defense as a GM. His only offensive-oriented move – the Jason Richardson trade – was for a guy who is nothing like him. So if Kerr is going to sign off on a deal, sending Hill and his 10 points and 5 boards per game to Orlando, he’ll get more than Redick’s 4.3 points per game.

    do it

  2. Kobeef says:

    That would be hilarious.
Somehow I think grant would not be received with open arms in Orlando….

  3. Patrick says:

I like Redick for the shooting, but if the suns trade a still productive Grant Hill for that bench warming crap I am going to have to start writing Steve Kerr hate mail.

    @ Kobeef

you might be right even though i think that he still gave them 2 years (or was it only 1) of health and then bounced when they could have gotten absolutely nothing out of him. And he was a good character influence on (an already good) Dwight and the other players there…but damn, he looks old in his picture. As a matter of opinion, Reggie Theus almost looks younger than Grant in their respective pictures…

  5. fallinup says:

Kerr’s a moron if this happens. Plain and simple.

  6. Junio says:

Bogus…last year the Suns would like Redick, but not today.

  7. TD says:

I hope the suns realizes that Reddick isn’t the 2nd coming of steve kerr. This would be a horrible trade for the suns and they might as well give up on the season and trade amare if this happens

  8. Mark S. says:

On a radio interview yesterday (Gambo & Ash KTAR 620 Phoenix), Kerr and the hosts were laughing about that rumor.

  9. haslem says:

yea get Reddick and sign Marbury when he gets bought out as well.
if Nash can’t make reddick good, no one can, people will double amare and shaq sides they should do this deal before hill get injured in some ridiculous over the top way.

I like Grant Hill, and I wanted him to stay in Orlando, but since he’s gone, let him stay away. Also, I with you guys, JJ would’ve been a good Suns fit in the past, but I don’t think so now…

  11. Kobeef says:

    @TD

It never occured to me that Redick appeals to Kerr because he is similar to Kerr in his playing days.

If this happens it is just like Kevin McHale trading OJ Mayo for Kevin Love (McHale Jr)

  12. Bondzai says:

Being an Orlando fan, I have mixed feelings about this. I’m a JJ fan and would like to see him succeed here. But I’m also realistic enough to know that he may never amount to anything in a Magic uniform.

Grant Hill was booed last time the Suns were in Orlando. I don’t hate on him for leaving. After all the surgeries he could have just said screw it and collected his salary from his couch. But he kept attempting comebacks and eventually did play consistently for us, even if it was for just a season.

I think as a whole the fans would not like this trade. Every time JJ comes into the game the crowd goes nuts. Every time he gets the ball outside the 3 point line you can hear everyone getting excited for him to shoot the ball.

  13. JCARR says:

No for the suns… yes (re-union) for the magic
JJ hasnt proven he belongs in the L yet.

  14. Dime Magazine says:

Why wouldn’t both teams do this? The Magic aren’t losing anything and would be adding a vet and great locker room guy to a young team.

The Suns need more shooters, more scoring, and they don’t want to play Grant nearly as much as they are right now.

  15. Jeronimo says:

For what I read, Grant Hill and Shaq are quite close. Ithink this trade would hurt the Suns’ chemistry, which apparently is not at an all-time high. I don’t see it happening.

  16. junior says:

    are you shitting me?
Let redick prove himself first. grant is a consitent veteran off the bench. I love JJ for his Jumper, but he needs to prove himself first. Grant is way to good a player to be traded for a maybe,or couldabeen

  17. Bruce says:

What is this, Joke of the Day?

  18. dapro says:

Dime you posed the question in a previous article, “Who would excel in D’Antoni’s system”

Look no further than J.J Redick

  19. Auggy says:

allow me to get my bill walton on: “steve nash and jj redick, together, would form the worst defensive backcourt in the history of western civilization!”

  20. Max says:

I would be shocked if this happened. It would be a good move for the Magic, but does Grant really want to return after the bad blood with Orlando management and the stupid fans there booing him when he returned as a Sun? And I think JJ could still do well on another team, but somehow the Suns don’t strike me as a good fit.

  21. weng santos says:

    Do it!

Redick will proves he belongs if gets opportunities. No shots and no minutes for him in Orlando.

I bet my bottom dollar Redic would flourish in Phoenix alongside Nash, Shaq, and Amare. He would get to do what he does best- shoot.

Like Korver, he is one post presence and one pure pg and one open-minded coach away from doing something right.

  22. that's whats up says:

if this happens Terry Porter will be thinking “at least I’m off the hook now cause this team is going straight down the shitter”

  23. CitizenB says:

    Here’s what Orlando should do:

    -Hedo to Houston for T-Mac
-Rashard Lewis and JJ Reddick to Phoenix for Shaq and Grant Hill
    -Bring back Penny

It would be the all-star Orlando team (great for NBA2K9)

  24. parinaz suns says:

i hate stever kerk a lot.

  25. parinaz suns says:

    steve kerr*

  26. Lady Luck says:

Silly trade. Unbalanced trade as well. If they don’t want Grant, I’m sure they can find a team who will.

They do need to trade JJ. Since the Knicks like to take 37 3′s a game, sounds like that would be a good place for him.

  27. lance says:

Why would you trade a starter with better numbers for a guy so bad that he’s not even played off the bench!!?? Anyone who says this is a good trade must be an Orlando fan. Who thinks its a good trade for a starter to be traded for the 12th guy off the bench?? Stephan, you do??
