Q&A With AJ Abrams
AJ AbramsThe other night at the Jimmy V Classic, I was able to get up with two of the best pure athletes on display in AJ Abrams and Stephen Curry and talk to them about their training techniques.
Check below for Abrams’s pre-Draft experience and conditioning drills, and click HERE to read about Curry’s endurance workouts and summer routine posted earlier today.
Dime: I was talking with Stephen Curry earlier, who played 40 minutes tonight, about his endurance. Playing 36 minutes yourself, what type of stuff did you work on in the off-season to enhance your conditioning?
AJ Abrams: I just gotta say thanks to [Strength & Conditioning] Coach Todd [Wright]. He gets us ready. We have six o’clock workouts, conditioning, the strength part – you know that goes a long way. Practice also prepares me as well, but you gotta play practice like it’s a game. So taking that serious kind of gets me ready for the long season and the long games.
Dime: Were there any pro guys or college guys that you worked out with this summer?
AJ: Aside from when I entered the Draft, I did stuff like that, just playing with other people like that. People that went to Texas, they come back and play with us sometimes. But you know, I’m just kind of running on my own. Running with Coach Todd, running with sleds and anything like that. You know, just to get in shape, stay in shape.
Dime: How was that process when you entered the Draft?
AJ: I got some good feedback. They told me what I needed to work on. The main point was that I needed to be more of a floor general. You know, everybody knows that I can shoot the ball and I can score. They know I can play defense. It was just more of being a leader on the court.
Dime: Evaluating yourself, what would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses as a player?
AJ: I wasn’t as vocal as I needed to be. I think that’s my biggest weakness. You know, that’s what I’ve been working on, just trying to be more vocal on the court so my teammates know I have their back and in tough times they can look for me. If they have any questions as well, they can talk to me.

Where does he rank in the mock draft? He doesnt seem like a special player to me… the NBA has a bunch of players like him already. (DJ Augustin, gibson, dixon, dee brown, roberson (knicks), dooling,….the list goes on)
