Q&A With Stephen Curry

Stephen CurryStephen Curry

The other night at the Jimmy V Classic, I was able to get up with two of the best pure athletes on display in Stephen Curry and AJ Abrams, and talk to them about their training techniques.

Check below for Curry’s endurance workouts and summer routine, and come back later today to hear Abrams’ pre-Draft experience and conditioning drills.

Dime: You played 40 minutes tonight. Come March, will you have enough in the tank to keep up at that pace?
Stephen Curry: I worked hard on that over the summer. It doesn’t usually happen without Max [Paulhus Gosselin], but I’ll do it if I have to.

Dime: What were some of your training techniques to work on your endurance this summer?
SC: Nothing specifically, just not taking any days off. I was on the track just running – doing the little stuff every day to keep enhancing my strength and my threshold up. During the season you don’t get many days off, so you gotta train yourself like that during the summer and do something every day it will help you throughout the season.

Dime: Were there any pro guys or college guys that you worked out with this summer?
SC: I went to a couple Nike camps, but that was just more skill work. LeBron, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce and Steve Nash camp, I went to those. But at home, I was at my high school working with my high school coach Shonn Brown. I was just in the gym, by myself sometimes. Didn’t have one guy that I worked out with everyday.

Dime: What did you take away from training with such elite NBA players?
SC: I learned from LeBron and Chris Paul how they play, how competitive they are every game while playing pickup with those guys. Then Steve for a day was telling us how to run ball screens. I got to pick his brain a little bit on how to do that.

  1. JCARR says:

Stephen Curry is no PG. He’s shoot first then pass ala Mike James.

  2. VINNY says:

I disagree J- I THINK HE PLAYS THAT WAY NOW BECAUSE HE DOESNT HAVE A LOT OF(my bad on the caps) options on his team- given the right situation I think he’s going to be a great pt guard. great shooter- good passer.

  3. Bron42 AkA Your Moms Best Friend says:

mike james could get to the hole better because his body, hes more a steve kerr with a handle

  4. justice(knicks fan) says:

i think he’s actually more bobbie gibson than anyone, but he has more handle…If juan dixon who was as much of a 2guard gunner in college as anyone can figure out how to run a team i think curry will be ok…Just play d and hustle like ur life depends on it

That is all you are going to give us. You would think seeing as you have a Tom Cruise for Katie Holmes, dance on the couch and profess your unconditional love style man crush on Curry I would expect a novel here. Come on boss you’re better than that

yall will see steph’s gonna be a future hall of famer. he just needs to get his body weight up and get more bulk for the league. but hes got everything, the shot (obviously), he can drive, and he has been developing his skills at the 1 spot. he is gonna be a future mvp, he just has a nack for scoring and he gets better every year. just think about it, davidson was the only scholarship offer he had, and now hes the best player in the ncaa as a junior… think of what he can become.
