Reported Three-Way Trade: Wizards, Hornets, Grizzlies
CP gets some help. After we woke up to rumors of a trade involving Javaris Crittenton, sources are saying the Grizzlies have agreed to a three-team deal involving Crittenton that includes the Hornets and Wizards.
In the trade, the Wizards get Crittenton from Memphis and Mike James from New Orleans, the Hornets get Antonio Daniels from Washington, and the Grizzlies get a first-round pick.
Although it involves bit players, I like this deal for all sides:
The Wizards get some 2-for-1 backcourt depth, which is big with Gilbert Arenas‘ injury. Crittenton is a young guy who still has potential to be something; best-case scenario, he turns into an actual starting PG with the size to defend bigger guards, which would allow Arenas to play the two (his natural position) upon his return and not be a liability on defense. (It’s being reported that Dee Brown will be waived to make room on the roster, but he’s like 5-10 anyway; James and Crittenton are both bigger and will be more productive.)
The Hornets needed a real PG to back up Chris Paul, and neither Mike “The Amityville Chucker” James or Devin Brown fit the bill. Daniels isn’t great, but at least he can play the position.
And the Grizzlies needed to unclutter their PG spot, as they already have Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley Jr. They get another draft pick, which is always ideal for a rebuilding squad.

Richard Wellner says:
I wasn’t aware that Daniels was still in the league. But a great trade, I think, for Memphis, who are getting a wonderful draft pick.

JCARR says:
Mike James could have a career season like when he was in the craptors.
For the Hornets Antonio Daniels is good pick up.

Austin Burton says:
Even if Crittenton is shoot-first, at least he’s shooting from closer than 24 feet. If anything he’s drive-first.

whos 1st rounder is it? Washington’s or the Hornet’s? Big difference . . .

its the grizzlies first rounder that they get back from the j.c. navarro trade.
a scoring guard is exactly what we need there’s a reason the team is successful when arenas plays vs. when dee brown and dsteve play in the backcourt. when you’re starting guards shoot like 30% you need to make a change.

Mike James? What the hell do the Grizz want with him – he sucks! His last year with the “craptors” (thanks JCARR) was the worst case of contract year chucking we’ve seen in a long time.
Does this mean the Grizz still want to move Conley? I think they should trade him while teams still think he can be an NBA player…he is clearly not and is only going to get worse.

Whose pick is it? Jeremy, it can’t be the Griz’ pick. They are the one getting the pick. Yeah, i agree. whose pick is it makes a difference. If its Hornets, its not that great for the Griz nad NO gave up too much. If its the Wiz’s pick, then the Wiz gave up too much; Crit is a gamble and Mike James’ is almost irrelevant to an NBA team.

JP says:
the pick is from the Wiz to Memphis. However, the pick was originally traded to Washington for the rights to Navarro. So basically they just traded to get their own pick back

Heckler says:
haha. foolish player movement.
None of these teams get better.
Wizards traded Antonio Daniels and presumably will cut/release Dee Brown and replace them both with Javaris Crittenton and Mike James?
where exactly is the improvement? I dont see it.

isotope, it is memphis’ pick. they are just getting it back because they gave it up in a previous trade.

Timmy D says:
This is a horrible trade for the Grizzlies. Once again we traded a solid player for NOTHING. We werent going to lose that 1st round pick anyway! This is how protected the pick was:
Washington receives a 2009 Memphis first-round pick. (protected) top 16 in 2009, top 14 from 2010-12 and top 12 in 2013.
We would have never have been at risk at losing the pick, its not like we are getting out of the lottery anytime soon. We also had to give a 2nd rounder to New Orleans what a joke.
