Steve Francis traded to Memphis
Steve Francis (photo. NBA)If this were six or seven years ago, the Grizzlies might be nice: Darius Miles, Antoine Walker (pre-buyout), and now Steve Francis. Memphis traded a conditional 2011 draft pick to the Rockets today in exchange for Francis and an ‘09 pick.
Stevie Franchise has yet to get past the DNP-CD hurdle this year, but at 31 years old, he’s still got a little game. The last time he actually got some decent burn, he averaged 11.3 points and 3.9 assists with the Knicks two seasons ago. But in this case he could end up getting Marburied regardless, as the Griz have a couple young point guards they want to develop in Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry.

Houston Up! Good to see the Rockets continually making moves. Now Deke needs to come on in. Unless the Rockets have some three team deal ready to get an experienced great pg. Or perhaps they might work somethin up to trade Tra….Oh hell naw! Just get Dikembe and let the Rockets roll on.
Merry Christmas to all and pour a lil extra in someone’s glass while they ain’t lookin!

its ashame how stevie franchise’s career went. went from an arguably top 3 point guard in the nba with houston to an unhealthy gettin-no-burn bench warmer .. hated to see that happen

what’s the conditions on the draft pick? cause the grizzlies are prolly going to get some really good lottery picks given they are going to suck for the next few years. I fear the grizzlies may have given up too much for a washed up player.

Karma’s a bitch eh Stevie? 9 years after turning down the Vancouver Grizz, you’re back with them. Hahahaha! I bet you’ll ask to be waived/bought out just so you can say that ’til the end of your career (actually your balling ended years ago), you still didn’t play for them. Such is life…

He didn’t want to play in Vancouver, this team is in Memphis now.
If i was told that i had to live in Vancouver I would demand a trade too! who the fuck wants to live in Vancouver! …Fuck Vancouver! It’s worst than living in Utah!!!

Vancouver is definitely not worse than living in Utah. Vancouver is way more diverse, has a coupla good sneaker shops, and the food is WAY better than it in Utah.
I don’t even think most of y’all have even been to Vancouver.

exfranchise says:
All this trade does is clear a roster spot for Mutombo. The picks are both 2nd rounders and won’t mean much. Grizzlies get Francis’ expiring contract, a 2009 2nd rounder for their rebuilding movement and some cash. While Houston gets there backup center for the inevitable Yao injury and a conditional 2011 2nd round pick to make the trade an actual trade.
Merry Xmas Stevie, has anybody fallen from the top as quickly as him? That could be a good article, Dime!

Did some idiot claim that one of the best cities in the Northern Hemisphere is somehow worse than living in Utah (which, if you’ve ever been, isn’t half bad. I’d take Moab and Zion National Forest over most any mainland retreat)??? Son, you just lost all credibility with that statement.

Man leave franchise alone. As soon as he gets on the court, he makes a difference. Leadership, talent, whatever. This trade makes sense for Memphis, they get there pick back for next years draft, and a veteran who just needs to get some burn and get back in his funk. He won’t be as good as he was, but he isn’t washed up neither. It’s about time this trade went down for stevie, he was never gonna get the chance in Houston. D-Miles and Franchise could resurrect their careers in Memphis, and we didn’t give up anything to let them. This is win-win
