The Assassination of Michael Jordan By The Coward Kobe Bryant

If you’re going to watch one video today, check out this flick. At the end of the film, the director states in reference to Kobe: “No one is asking the question, ‘Is he the next Michael Jordan?’. The question’s been answered.”

Will there ever be another MJ?

  1. GEE...All ya heard was poppa don't hit me no more says:

I forget what player said it, but he is the closest thing we have to MJ in this particular generation, day and age.

Total impact wise their will NEVER be another MJ.

For this day and age though, I am content with Kobe.

Still it’s to wonderful to have been in the time to see both. Blessed indeed.

  2. Al says:

    Leave Kobe alone

  3. justice says:

Kobe actually has come closer than iv’e ever thought anyone would, but there’s only 1 MJ even if kobe does win another 3 titles…but he’s top 20 all time as of today imo

  4. SayItAintSo says:

MJ was the best player when he was in the league. Kobe is the best player in the league.

  5. George W Kush Sr says:

I dont like Kobe Bryant for the most part. Indeed he is the closest thing to MJ, and I gotta give him his props for getting where he is.

But he will never be MJ. If you could somehow get a MJ in his prime to play any type of basketball game against a in-his-prime Mamba, whether its 5 on 5, 3 on 3, 2 on 2, and especially the 1 on 1, Jordan would make it a point to smash Kobe.

  6. Stickashock says:

Aron, you are a f*cking dramaqueen.

Just look at the titles of your recent articles.

TNT would hire you in a heartbeat.

  7. Scott says:

Kobe is easily the best and the closest to MJ that we may see in a long time.

While LeBron may get some comparisons, they will only be vague, as LeBron is his own enigma.

Kobe played against MJ, went to war against him, and lived in the L in MJ’s real era, at least for the last 3 chips of MJ’s.

It’s clear he was the one who was truly passed the torch.

Right now is the most interesting time in Kobe’s career when compared to MJ. As he has MJ’s rendition of Bulls that MJ came back to, with Kukoc with Rodman, they had a better supporting cast and MJ was older, and wiser so he knew how to bring them all together in an amazing way.

Kobe is in a similar situation with these lakers who have more talent. So it’ll be interesting, once the dust settles on this team and Kobe’s career how things play out.

  8. Ric Hardwood says:

Nice… very well put together video…

  9. Dagomar says:

The comparisons to MJ – in part fueled by himself – have been the worst thing to happen to Kobe’s career. He always comes up just short in those comparisons – he never scored as much in a season, never as consistantly, never as efficiently, never quite as clutch, never quite as much a winner, never rebounded or passed as well, etc., etc., – and it tends to blind people to Kobe’s own greatness.

I fear the same thing will happen to Lebron’s career. It’s time we enjoy these superstars for what they are, not for what they will probably never be.

  10. Ross says:

I don’t get it. Why is Kobe a “coward”?
    FYI, Kobe is no MJ.

  11. the_don_mega says:

i go with Gee on this one… seeing both players in their prime is a sight to behold… the vid is enough to show that Kobe is in someway trying to be like Mike… but who doesn’t??? all of us cats that grew up watchin the G.O.A.T. wanna be like him… for Kobe… in his mind… he’s not tryin to be MJ… he’s tryin to beat MJ… aint sure if he can do it though… so lets just have it this way… nobody is goona be the next MJ… same goes for the next Bird or Magic… Kobe is Kobe… when he decides to hang those sneakers up… its not gonna be a matter of did he live up to the billing of being the next MJ… his career would be decided as whether he was better than MJ or not…

  12. doug says:

George W Kush Sr I didn’t know you had the ability to forsee an event that has never happened”MJ would smash Kobe” can you tell me what the lotto numbers are?your an idiot man Kobe was going hard at this cat when he was playing for the bulls he dropped thirty on him as a 2 year in the league. MJ never went for 81 points damn the rings Kobe has 3 when MJ was just getting his first ring(29 years old)Jay put it best on the blue print 2, “some people hate” George W Kush Sr this song was made for cats like you.(05-06) Kobe would get in MJ of any era.

  13. Smitty313 says:

Damn they have to call Kobe a coward. MJ would have did the same thing to the old heads of his generation. MJ is MJ and Kobe is Kobe. My two favorite players ever.

  14. Ian says:

    justice
be carefull i said the same thing about kobe being top ten alltime and some fool here came out balls firing sayin he was top 3 alltime. kobe might end up top ten.

    sayitisntso
jordan was the best for a full decade kobe has been the best what 2 seasons??? and id still rather have duncan for one year if i want to win a chip
duncan was the best player for ten years after jordan left then shaq not kobe.

    scott
lebron is more magic imo than jordan

  15. Big Sia says:

    PEOPLE…….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAA8mLz8aJ0

    PEOPLEE!!!!!

  16. karizmatic says:

If Kobe is the closest thing to MJ, the comparison is still not that close. Kobe shouldn’t even be discussed in the same sentence as MJ, no one should, for that matter. Kobe still has a lot of years left, so we’ll see.

  17. doug says:

Dagomar are you serious Kobe is only 30 and he’s shattered half of MJ’s records already your an idiot he’s on that cats heel with most 50 point games and up there for highest PPG in one season 35.4(2005-2006)J never went for 81 points, J never scored 62 points in 3 quarters, J never outscored an entire team through 3 quarters Kobe 62 verse Dallas 61 points, J never went for 50 plus points in 5 straight games and all of those were wins for the Lakers, Kobe is chasing Wilt in scoring he’s a way more prolific scorer than J ever was. J made his money in and around the basket, Kobe does that and he’ll Kill you from deep, He has better foot work than J and he’s a better ball handler. Fall back haters.

  18. Ian says:

now if they played comon no one is stoppin no one thats jordan talking outta his ass (jordan is better of course but kobe is still dropping 30 on him)

someone said kobe has 3 chips before jordan had his 1st true but jordan wasnt the second bananan on his team like kobe was.

  19. Tone says:

How people soon forget, the Lakers were up by 24 in a Finals game and lost. That’s nothing like Michael Jordan, he would have never let that happen. No comparison, D-Wade is closer, he carried his team in the ‘06 Finals.

  20. doug says:

there goes Ian, one of those Kobe haters your top ten list is real suspect Kobe is in top 5 of all-time as we speak man, you need to review this cats body of work Ian, he’s only 30 Man, do you get it? Go console your spurs, get those cats a body bag there done.

  21. Jah says:

Kobe has patterned his game after the greatest basketball player the NBA has ever seen, Michael Jordan. It has helped him be considered the greatest basketball player walking the world today. And yet, we give him grief?

As Al said in this thread’s response #3 — leave Kobe alone.

  22. doug says:

Kobe has made a living out of scorching your team Ian.stop hating he’s not top ten he’s atleast top 5.

  23. doug says:

You feel me Jah? These cats are haters, Jay put it best like I told George W. Kush Sr. “some people hate”.

  24. Amar says:

you guys who don’t understand the “coward” reference, read a book, if that’s too many words, watch a movie. if that’s too tough, click on an URL . . . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443680/

  25. jussumguy says:

People getting all butthurt about him “calling Kobe a coward” just didn’t get the movie reference.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443680/

  26. Michorizo says:

This is all Kobe’s fault…he should have never been so damn good at hoops to be compared to MJ. He should have never thrived to try and reach Michael Jordan status…He should have panned his game to be more similar to Clyde Drexler. This way Kobe would have won a long time ago.

  27. doug says:

Tone are you kidding me? What were you watching MJ had Pippen, D-Wade had Shaq, who even at his worst is a decoy to defenses, Who did Kobe have Pau Gasoft,L.O.who had no finals experience. Don’t even mention Kobe and D.wade in the same sentence he’s no where close to Kobe, now that shaq has left you see what this cat is about, alot of shooting and a lot of losses, there like a .500 team. They suck. They need to stop comparing these youngins to Kobe, D.Wade, LeBron, Carmello have a long way to go.You have to do what Kobe does year in and year out.

  28. Ian says:

    doug
tell me how kobes resume is better than

    magic
    duncan
    wilt
    jordan
    oscar
    bird
    russell
    kareem
    shaq

those are the nine for sure ahead of him on the all time list now tell me how kobe is ahead of any of them break out his resume

i say jordan is better u pick kobe fine but u have nothing to base that pick on except u a lakers fan
u talked about the spurs here but what do they have to do with anything here i didnt know only bulls n lakers fans were allowed to post

  29. justice says:

Lebron has a chance to be the greatest ever period, that’s some scary shit the dude has a bit of magic and some MJ but he is really himself at the end of the day if lebron plays any type of d and gets a couple chips he will be the new MJ…

jordan is the g.oa.t not only for what he did on the court but what he did in terms of the media coverage and marketing oppurtunities, lebron is doing that shit now..without a jumpshot

  30. Ian says:

    doug
why cant he compare wade to anyone???? u said wade had shaq he had and old shaq didnt kobe have a in his prime shaq?????? what r u talking about that shit didnt even make sense the 08 lakers are ten times better than the 06 heat wade won being the man kobe might be better but wade carried his team to the chip kobe HASNT KOBE HAS BEEN OUTTA THE FIRST ROUND ONCEEEEE BEING THE MAN U HEAR THAT STAT ONCE.

  31. isotope says:

    “AN URL?”
    LOL

  32. doug says:

Ian we’re talking about individual players the best of all-time you put Russell up there because he won 10 rings when cats were 6 foot tall and working part time jobs before the game.Shaqs not ahead of him he isn’t even the 2nd or 3rd best center of all-time.Tim Duncan isn’t either this cat one 4 rings but that doesn’t make him better than Kobe that means he had a better team than Kobe, get off dudes jock strap he’s never been considered by his colleagues to be the best player in the L, when have you heard anyone in the league say he was the best player?….exactly, LeBron, Stoudamire, Carmello,Shaq, everyone has been saying Kobe is the best player for the longest.your a clow Ian TD,Shaq,Russell real suspect we’re talking about individual bodies of work too.

  33. justice says:

kobe is somewhere between 10-20 his resume is better than barkley, drexler, isiah, but duncan because of that ring gets the nod…

kobe’s reputation is kinda tarnished too a lot of people hate the guy for what i don’t know broad shows up with 3 semen’s in her panties, the dude was innocent, and the other half hate him because he just seems to be a dick, but MJ was a dick himself

  34. doug says:

yeah Ian and Kobe won 3 with that shaq you bafoon. Shaq even said it recently that he and kobe are the best 1-2 punch in NBA history, Can you name every team in league history that has 3 peated…you probably can’t heres a little help, Celtics, Bulls, Lakers with Kobe and Shaq, very rare company, D-Wade will never do this and he’ll be lucky if he wins another one. However, I do think he will win another one before the Spurs will but that’s not saying much.

  35. George W Kush Sr says:

Cant forsee lotto numbers yet, still working on that one.

Lets not talk about the rings, those were Shaq’s teams, this is now Kobe’s Lakers squad. Lets see what he does.

Dont talk about Jay-Z, you probably think Weezy is the best rapper alive.

And yea, Jordan would smash on him like he did all other SGs. Dont take it so personal, Kobe dont give a shit about my opinion, I dont give a shit about yours, but you got a lot of growing up to do young’n. Kobe’s good, great even, but he aint no Jordan, kid.

  36. doug says:

justice you can’t put a guy ahead of another dude just because of rings,all-time greats encompass individual bodies of work. Never has there been one year since TD came into the league, has a player went on record saying this cat was the best in the L.It’s always players, coaches, past greats M.J,Bird,Isaih Thomas, Magic,Drexler saying Kobe has been the best player in the L for the past 8 years.

  37. Ian says:

doug how can u tell me to get off a dudes jock strap
    u of all people???

i might giveu russell on the list but shaq and duncan lol gtfoh

since shaq was on the lakers and was the best player on the team im not even going to debate this one
    now
    duncan
    3 time finals mvp
    2 time mvp
    4-0 in the finals
and the best part duncan doesnt make anyone better????? hahah dude go watch a game have u seen the scrubs that have rings and get playin time because of timmeh
ahh lets not forget the nba record for all nba and all defensive team with the most selections.

shaq has 3 rings being the man 4 overall
duncan has 4 rings being the man and has never lost in the finals nor the first round
kobe has 3 rings playin the pippen role
sure man kobe is ahead of them good argument

justice that is what i have been telling him but i guess one mvp and 81 pts makes u top three alltime in his book

  38. Patt says:

Michael Is Michael and Kobe is Kobe, Michael is the Number One best all-time basketball player to walk Gods green earth, Kobe is the Number One point five best all-time. You can compare them until the end of time, but when its all said in done Jordan will still be number one and kobe will be number one point five

  39. Ian says:

doug HAHAHA last 8 years whatttt
duncan has been the best player since jordan left
kobe might be the best the last 2
is not what another player says its whats real and rings dont count???? fine i guess carmelo is the best then.

do u write this with a straight face kobe has been the best since 2000 according to you.

  40. doug says:

George W.Kush Sr, you and Ian are the reason theres such strict laws on polygomy and incest. You guys are idiots man! You’ve got a lot of growing up to do mentally and physically please take this figuratively and literally you moron. I know it’s going to take you about 10 minutes to respond to this one because your sister/girlfriend is probably using the only dictionary you have in your shotgun shaq to prop up a short chair leg in the house…but i’ll give you sometime.

  41. Mamba says:

Its just fun to savor watching Kobe now because I would give anything to watch MJ again in his prime,

It goes to fast – before you know it there will be someone else that comes along,

  42. George W Kush Sr says:

Polygomy, incest, one dude jocking another,

I dont have to respond to you, you’re ethering yourself, homie, the shit you talk about is straight up disturbing.

Go make some friends, open a I LOVE KOBE forum or something.

    This kid’s getting homotional

  43. Ian says:

i was waiting for the mature doug to come out
good answer doug i guess id do the same if id were talkin outta my ass and someone was else were using facts to make a point
    later take care

  44. Tone says:

I still want to know, how do you lose a finals game after being up 24 and still get comapared to Jordan. That’s not Jordanesque

  45. doug says:

Ian it’s always what your peers think of you, Duncan the best player since J left your an idiot I see the affects of mid-west living taking a toll on your brain your not even worth talking to anymore. Shaq won ships only because of Kobe.Shaq & Penny-no ship, Shaq&Kobe-3 ships,Shaq&Wade-1 ship, Shaq& Nash-0 ships, you do the math.Clown!

  46. Ian says:

    doug
u have got to be the best ethug ever
keep it up u sound tuff my man i wouldnt even dare messing with u

  47. George W Kush Sr says:

This guy’s mad because they made Strict laws against incest because of me, lol.

Why you so mad? You trying to fuck your sister or something? wow.

Tim Duncan is being considered the best PF ever because the career he had, which started when MJ retired, and your saying dude sucks?

If only we can have laws against pro-creating stupid ass children

  48. doug says:

Tone, do you get it? you don’t lose those games if you have guys with guts. Name one player on that team second to Kobe that could even be put on Scottie Pippens category? You can’t. J isn’t getting any of that done without Pippen doing dirty work. Kobe is way more offensively potent than J ever was, man do you understood he scored 81 points in a single game,no overtime, this cat has done so much but this is all that needs to be said. J was dumping 62 on cats in overtime wins and shooting lay-up and perimeter shots. Kobe got 62 in three quarters. I think your problem is you keep comparing Kobe’s team to MJ’s team that has nothing to do with these cats individual play.

  49. Ian says:

doug u gotta remember something if u gonna try an insult someone
again how about using some facts to base anything u talk about isnt all that u talked about ALL AMERICAN
and theres no way u can talk like that without your parents being related
    im not american fool

  50. Ian says:

    george
    hahahahahahahhaahahahhahahaha

its true hes pissed at us cuz he wants to fuck his sis
its not really our prob noow is it

  51. doug says:

George W. Kush Sr. I see you weren’t able to find that dictionary, by your profanity laced tyraid, do you have any polysyllabic words in your vocabulary you caveman, shouldn’t you be shooting Geico comercials, maybe you can understand this one you boot mouth idiot, uutt a buuuut, mooot, uuuut uuuut.I never thought i would say this but I think I’ve located someone with a lower IQ than Ian.Signed E-thug, that’s hilarious Ian, but if you saw me I think I’d be equally intimidating to you. You frail little man, it’s time for you to take a nap on the magic rug, kid.

  52. Ian says:

    doug
frail??? im 6′5 and weight 250 lbs
like i said im afraid of u ethug i would never want to see u

btw love how u post all that crap and when someone answers u the same way u try to sound smart and above all that u sir a big douche

  53. George W Kush Sr says:

He actually posted something without using the word Moron.

My sincere apologies, oh wise Kobe Lover, you most certainly are the superior intellect amongst us.

But the popular opinion amongst your peers here is that you love for Kobe is starting to sound a little homosexual. Add to that you’re into polygomy and incest. You should really deal with your issues.

But i dare ya to reply without saying moron again, i bet you could do it 81 times to prove your greatness.

  54. doug says:

Ian do me a favor and count all your teeth on one hand and send us a message so we can get an in idea of what your IQ is, and taylor our messages to you it seems like a lot of this stuff is over your head, you mental midget.

  55. doug says:

did you just give me your height and weight?Igor/Ian, your an idiot man.

  56. Tone says:

Doug, Yes I compared teams, but you’re missing the point Jordan and Kobe were the leaders of there teams. Kobe didn’t make the players around him better, he didn’t come to the rescue when the game was on the line he disappeared. I’ve been to a lot of Bulls games although I grew up a Pistons fan.In Chicago Jordan did a lot of dirty work, got to give credit when credit is do check his steals stats. Jordan controlled the game Kobe didn’t do it that night when it was most crucial.

  57. doug says:

Aaah George W. Kush Sr, redirecting your anger on innocent bloggers instead of your parents for having you, it sounds so George W. Kushish, deal with your anger man, harness it and start some sort of organization for people like you and Ian, theres all kind of government help for that stuff, besides aren’t you the former president.Your quite the tool Kush you have officially stolen that title from Ian and Rick Kamla.

  58. Ian says:

“Ian do me a favor and count all your teeth on one hand and send us a message so we can get an in idea of what your IQ is”

is this funny in the states???

didnt know retards were allowed to play with pcs all day without supervision over there

  59. doc says:

Kobe is the shit hiself.Fuck people always want to compare people for.If people in New York can tell u Starks gave Mike problems with a straight face theb Im sure Kobe could give him work every now and then. And people thinking there will never be another player great as Mike it will one day.And after Bron wins his 7th chip, kiss the rings bitches.

  60. doug says:

    Ian that wasn’t a joke…unfortunately that’s your reality.

  61. Ian says:

doc remember according to the smartest poster here doug
chips dont count lol according to him this is all individual accomplishments

  62. doug says:

don’t know if i agree with bron winning even 1 ship DOC but i respect your passion.

  63. vinny says:

you know doug you keep referring pts scored as some proof that kobe is better then Mike.
Its the same argument that people made for wilt. Rings mean something whether u want to admit it or not and the 1 glaring thing about both kobe and wilt is they just didnt lead there teams to very many rings(wilt got 2-but the second was late in his career with west on his team)
the 3 rings kobe had-he was pippen to shaq-stop being blinded so much by love!!

  64. Ian says:

    vinny
    how u been
u sure u really wanna get into this lol

  65. Prof. TX says:

Kobe isn’t MJ. The stats aren’t the same, or the title history or team composition. They’re both high-scoring shooting guards that had Jackson as a coach. That’s about it.

Kobe IS the next Clyde Drexler. The stats are closer and the playoff history is similar. Both struggled to take their team to a title as the only star, but won rings when paired with a HOF center.

  66. doug says:

Vinny you misunderstand man, I don’t think either of those can be considered exclusively or else Robert Horry would be up there with MJ. I think the G.O.A.T title must encompass both winning and stats. Learn something man.

  67. doug says:

Vinny I’m just calling a spade a spade man. I appreciate the game and it just so happens that Kobe plays the game at the highest level and has played it at that level for some years now, I think yall let your hatred for a particular player, namely Kobe, impair your logical thinking.

  68. doug says:

TX did you just compare Kobe to Drexler? That statement alone pretty much shows your intelligence man you have to be kidding me? That’s nothing but hate mixed with ignorance, and those two usually hang out with one another.Won Rings? Drexler only won, one ring you bafoon, Kobe won 3 rings and guess what TX this might come as news to you Ian,Vinny,Mr.Kush and all the rest of the haters but Kobe’s career isn’t over and oddly enough they have the best record in the L 14-1, fall back haters.

  69. YOUNGFED says:

the best player in the league is sheeed, he would dominate if he wanted to.
and I’m sorry, but ill still take rip hamilton over kobe at sg.

  70. doug says:

young fed, your obviously a pistons fan, guess what man your the only one besides pistons fans and I’m not even sure about that anymore that think that Rip Hamilton?please man….and stop with the if sheed wanted to he would dominate stuff, If sheed wanted to, he wouldn’t be sheed because sheed never wants to do much he’s quite the underachiever stop imagining a player that doesn’t exist.Sheed is who he is.

  71. doug says:

yall kill me with all these what if’s

  72. YOUNGFED says:

doug, you here the first time?

  73. doug says:

ok guys, reading all the comments again. i agree jordan was kobe better than kobe ever will be. sry for everything guys.

  74. Amar says:

again, because we’re talking all things goat today . . . this is some guy’s website that’s straight out of 1998, but check it. he makes some interesting points.

    http://airjudden2.tripod.com/jordan/better.htm

  75. Prof. TX says:

    Doug,
How many of those rings did Kobe win in a situation like MJ’s? I guess I’m a ‘hater’ and not ‘intelligent’ for pointing out that Kobe seems to have had a little trouble since Shaq left town.

If Kobe is the next MJ, why can’t he win any rings without a HOF center next to him? Jordan didn’t need Shaq, he did it with roleplayers and Pippen. Unless all the Kobe-lovers think that losing Rick Fox was the key. Kobe’s good, but Jordan had more success with less help.

  76. Duke says:

Speaking of LBJ. I was at Foxsports.com and came across this nifty little post:

lebron is already better than jordan.

    there is nothing to compare.

let me prove it once and for all.

lebron is only 23 yet he has been to the finals.

mj hadnt won anything in the nba by 23.

lebron is a better passer than mj…hands down.

only magic can compare to lebrons court vision.

lebron is a better rebounder than mj.

no argument from anyone on this.

lebron is already a team leader.

mj didnt want to be a leader (he just wanted to score) until people
doubted his ability after the pistons crushed his spirits.

lebron plays d as well as mj, if not better.

lets see mj get blocks like the kind lebron gets.

lebron took sasha pavlovic, eric snow, and damon jones to the finals.

lets see mj go to the finals without hall of famers pippen and coach phil
(and rodman and ron harper and steve kerr for the 72 win season)

lebron has dunked from the foul line during a game with defenders chasing him (see youtube)…

mj needed to run the whole length of the court…and still he didnt hammer it home like lebron james did.

    lebron can shoot threes…mj cant

and lebron scored the last 25 against the
    pistons to win game 5.

mj has never done anything close.

lebron led team usa to a gold medal.

coach k called him the undisputed leader of the team.

lebron took a team of misfits to the finals. and two of those games were decided in the last 30 seconds. it could have easily gone 6 or 7.

lebron is a proven winner at every level in life.

and this years cavs are great. not good, great.

remember, the nba changed a lot of defensive rules after the pistions clamped down on mj.

after lebrons rookie year the nba restored some defensive rules. they knew he would make it unfair.

and mj never had to play against a zone during his title runs.
he could clear out and play one on one.

there are always three guys on lebrons side of the court every time he touches the ball.

sure, the bulls were better than the cavs during lebrons first three years.

but mj is not better than lebron.

  79. George W Kush Sr says:

    To Amar :

Checked out the site, definitely some good points, but some narrow minded ones too. Seems the main argument is that if you go one up on Jordan in anyway, it clearly, to that site anyway, means that they’re better than Jordan.

Like the Bill Russell argument, if someone got lucky enough and was the 12th man on 12 championship teams, they’ll argue they’re better than Russell. And you cant argue that Russell had more play time, more ppg, more blocks, because they’re specifically looking at one thing only.

Its like the only way we’ll ever have a greatest of all times would be if a rookie came into the league averaging 50ppg, 30rbg, 20apg, 10 bpg, 10spg for 15 years, winning all 15 MVP, Defensice player, AllStar MVP, Finals MVPs, humanatarian awards during that time and ofcourse 15 rings.

  80. Gary says:

when bball sites need web traffic, they run a “Kobe vs. Jordan” garbage . . .

Kobe is scrutinized 10 times more than Jordan was because of the internet. Therefore, he’s never going to even get close to Jordan’s legacy. The only way someone can even come close is to do it in another sport – i.e. Tiger Woods!

  82. doug says:

prof.tx kobe’s career isn’t over you loser, why can’t kobe win any rings with out a hall of famer? that is a stupid question, MJ had a hall of famer in scottie pippen and again must i remind you Kobe’s career isn’t over I don’t even know why you’re still here you think sheed is the most talented player in the L, excuse if sheed really tried, and you think Rip is better than Kobe….your opinions are really suspect.

  83. doug says:

Duke your an idiot LBJ is better than MJ already,” Lebron went to the finals at 23, MJ hadn’t won anything by the age of 23″guess what Duke? LBJ still hasn’t won anything remember he got swept in those finals, stop the arguement right there, LBJ play better D than MJ, this cat just started playing D.Please tell me how many defensive first teams has this guy been selected too? Are those crickets i hear? Exactly, none this cat aint even better than Kobe. Bounce homie you sound real foolish, have you been listening to Rick Kamla?

  89. Jay says:

Kobe hasn’t even been the best player in the league for the past couple years. It’s been Lebron, in almost every category. Lebron rebounds better, has a higher field goal percentage, scores more, notches more assists. He’s also become a great defender and is as good a fourth quarter player as any in the league. In a physical sense, he’s also stronger and more athletic.

Didn’t these Jordan comparisons end after last year’s finals? Besides game 3, he was a non-factor for long stretches. People talk about Gasol and Odom wilting and being physically and mentally soft even though they both shot over 50 percent. Well that’s because they had hot stretches and then disappeared for long stretches, kind of like Kobe did during the finals. Through games 4-6, he played a total of three good quarters of basketball, 3 of 12. That was it. They were the fourth quarter of game 4 and the first quarters of game 5/6. He vanished in the last two games. Talk about a first quarter gunner who shrinks as the game goes on.

  90. Big V says:

Why do people keep insisting on making these asinine comparisons? They played against different people at different times. There’s no true way to compare them to each other.

Let it go, fellas. Let it go.

Just a reminder that Kobe “sucked” in the finals with a torn ligament in his finger. If anybody’s ever had that injury, you’d know that even playin with it is big

    @ post 88
    true
Kobe and MJ are in two totally different situations, in two totally different leagues, with different rules.
All I can say is when MJ played, he was the best. Now Kobe’s the best. Hypothetical comparisons are best seen in video games, not reality

  94. Yoooo says:

Jordan played with 2 HOF’s the 2nd go round and not to mention Harper who was an all star caliber player pre knee injuries… You can’t bring up rings w/ Jordan because Kobe is on pace to win more being that he just turned 30. And Jordan NEVER played against a squad like the Celtics of 08… Wade will NEVER be comparable to Kobe because he’s been a cellar dweller in the East while Kobe has always been relevant in the West. Don’t forget last years Lakers weren’t picked to make the playoffs! And they were #1 before they got Gasol… Jordan NEVER played with bums like Smush Parker and Kwame Brown in his title runs. Id take Scott Williams over Kwame bum ass. In the toughest conference in the history of the league Kobe not only carried those bums to the playoffs but also to within a game of beating the 1 seed.

Jordan is the greatest, for now, but Kobe is like 1B. And please stop saying Kobe is Not Top 10. Since cats are crowining Paul Pierce the greatest Celtic ever and Bird is considered Top 5 all time please tell me how Kobe isn’t at LEAST top 5? He holds crazy records and has been a leader even when everyone criticized him. Albeit maybe not the best leader, he was always 1st in gym last out. He gave maximum effort and worked on every aspect of his game. If his teammates didn’t follow suit that’s not on him

  95. Jones says:

Kobe’s not that good. Superstars are made in the playoffs and so far Kobe has been disappointing in leading teams to the whole thing. Until he wins a championship as the alfa-dog this talk about MJ is a bunch of bull.

  96. Will Purdue says:

the bulls only won championships because of guys like Will Purdue, just like the Lakers only won championships because of guys like Medvedenko and Samaki Walker. geez. who cares about this michael jordan guy or colby bryant?

  97. J 694 says:

Did Kobe ever say how Shaq’s ass tastes?

Michael was never anyone’s sidekick (besides maybe Perkins and Big Game at UNC), Kobe has really only won as a #2.

Both players are probably equally skilled and equally competitive. Somehow Jordan almost always used his intensity to help his team win, while, Kobe can let his intensity hurt himself and his teamates.

  98. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

this was listed last year on True hoop

“Now its 2008, the Western Conference finals. Bryant is finally where he wants to be: an MVP playing on his team, no behemoth Hall of Famer to get in the way of post-ups, within reach of a title. He is also, by almost all accounts, the best player in the league. “It’s not even close,” says one Western Conference scout. “The difference between him and LeBron [James] is like [the one between] a Maserati and a Volvo.”

  99. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

Honestly this has to stop, let Kobe be Kobe… Everyone always trying to see the Next MJ, Harold Miner, VC, T MAC, aint none of them even come close to holding Kobe’s jock.

MJ is MJ the greatest ever, Kobe is Kobe, let it be

  100. Kobeef says:

Kobe is a better jump shooter than MJ – maybe the best ever – but MJ was a better ball handler and playmaker.

Mentally, I am not sure we will ever see an athlete with the killer instinct of Mj and I think that is what really sets him above all the rest.

  101. Aron says:

    @Will Purdue

    You’re the man!

  102. QUeSt??? says:

this video was awsome. I hate kobe but he is the closest thing to MJ. Have you noticed how the nba always manages to get the next great player of a generation. Think about it when jordan was at the beggining of his descent(age 33) a rookie named kobe came along. Kobe, nearing age 32, is dominating the league, however a young 23 year old by the name of lebron james is going to take the title from him in a few years, and i bet anything that when lebron hits 30, somene else will come along and challenge his title…who knows maybe that person was in this year’s draft….

  103. busterjonez says:

Jordan isn’t even the best guard ever. Big O was way better. Magic was better.

The only thing thing that Jordan was the best at was marketing. Not that he wasn’t great, but, jeez, anyone remember the “defining” MJ moment (the flu game)? HE PUSHED BRYON SO FAR THAT THE DEFENDER FELL OVER.

No superstar until Jordan was as protected as he was. The league rightfully saw MJ as the savior to basketball, and he made the most of it. HE IS A GREAT BALLER. NOT G.O.A.T.

  104. John says:

When Kobe get his 6 MVPs of the Finals, his 30.1 ptos carrer average, his 5 MVPs regular seasons, his 6 Rings, his DPOY, his 2 Olympics Gold Medal, them, and only them, you can start the sentence with Michael Jordan and finish with Kobe Bryant.

Jordan would never, ever, ever, lose a NBA Finals playing with Gary Payton, Karl Malone and Shaquille O´neal. Ouch.

  105. kowtz says:

Jordan never scored past 63… LMAO…

    John… stop hatin and comparin… there’s no next MJ…

There’s some shit MJ can’t compete with KB… and vice versa…

Not until they played their prime together and actually played 1-1 can we really know for sure…

Besides… Scottie Pippen did not have an ego as big as Shaq’s… plus he stepped on the court always on shape… (see what I mean? pointless to use these type of reasons…) or MJ can’t go to the playoff’s with a Kwame Brown and Smush Parkeron the starting line up… ;)

  106. rodnets says:

kobe is a poor mans jordan

  107. frank padilla says:

well…?? Kobe is n o t mj. why? b ecause, he is Kobe Bryant. there will never be a Kobe Bryant except himself, not even..Michael Jordan.

  108. Lite4theNite (the creator of the mix) says:

Big thanks to Aaron for posting my video.

Just thought I’d comment…hopefully to end the argument, and address some of the questions about Kobe being a coward.

First off–This was more of a video of what drives Kobe. I do not think anyone will argue with me that when Kobe first came into the league he really did want to be better than Michael Jordan. The commentary from past teammates and beat writers solidifies that.

I tried to use as many clips from early in his career as possible. I do believe he has moved on. He’s not young, foolish, and arrogant like he used to be.

But like i said in the comments, Kobe has become the MJ for a new generation. He has “assassinated him”. It is not about who is better. It is simply this: the search for the next MJ is over. Is he a carbon copy? No. But I feel watching Kobe do the things he does must be pretty damn similar to what it felt like watching Jordan do the incredible things he did.

Hope that clears some things up.

And as far as Kobe being a “coward”. Like someone posted earlier I just left it in a reference to the movie. Plus, I figured it is much more catchy than just Assassination of MJ by Kobe Bryant.

    Hope you enjoyed the video.

  109. William says:

You’ll never be able to tell if Kobe comes close to having a legacy that is comparable to Jordan’s while he’s still actively playing in the NBA. Events in the past always seem greater than those in the present similar to the saying “you never realize what you got ’til it’s gone”. In any case I’m glad Kobe Bryant is Kobe Bryant and not “the next Michael Jordan”. Jordan is probably the one player who has had the most impact on basketball. But that can only be said from a certain standpoint. People who’ve never eperienced MJ playing in the L because they’re too young might say that Kobe has had the greatest impact for them. The next generation might say it’s LeBron James.
To answer the question, no, there will never be a new MJ. I don’t find that to be desirable though.

  110. weng santos says:

    Kobe is the next MJ.

But in the end, MJ will still be considered the greatest.

  111. Jay says:

Kobe is the greatest jump shooter ever? Come on. That’s one of the untold stories about him, that he actually isn’t a very good shooter. He’s about 40 percent from 15 feet and out. Where Kobe makes his hay is inside the paint, his percentages from 5-10 feet are outstanding.

Jordan on the other hand was an outstanding jumpshooter. Just go download games of his, he was automatic from mid-range and after the three point line was moved in to where it is now, he was a very good three point shooter some years. What surprised me about him was that he actually lost his first step at a pretty job age, around 27 or so. When he was younger, he used to blow guys by about 3 feet. His speed was blinding. But at an age when guys are supposed to be in their athletic prime, he slowed down to the point that he wasn’t great at penetrating off isos anymore. That didn’t matter to him at all because his outside shot in all its forms was amazing.

  112. Sweet English says:

    Actually JAY

Kobe shoots .445 from 10-15 feet (2 point jumpshot range) and is getting 10.3 points a game from 2 point jumpers. The only person to get more than him from that range in the entire league is Dirk Nowitzki.

Kobe is only getting 2.4 points a game from inside. Which ranks him around 100th in points per game from the paint.

If your gonna make leud comments my friend. Do some research.

  113. Sweet English says:

MY BAD. Kobe is averaging 6.4 points from inside the paint. But still. Your comment is irrelevant.

  114. Frodo T. Baggins says:

Kobe showed in the 2007 Finals that he is not as good as Jordon. I believe Jordan would have won in the exact situation. In his last game as a Bull, game 6 in the 1998 Finals, Pippen had back problems and could only play 26 minutes. Jordan took over that game. Kobe would not have been able to do that. Paul “I’m the best” Piece played better than Kobe in last year finals. Kobe wasn’t even the best 2-guard in the 2007 finals, let alone ever. Someone needs to ask Kobe how Paul Pierce’s ass tastes.

  115. YaoFan says:

Until he wins a few rings (on his own without “tell me how my a** taste”), he shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breathe as MJ.

  116. rellz says:

Lol yal are killen me with these posts. but if u wanna compare MJ and Kobe just look at how many players DIDNT win rings because of MJ and then look at the respect from his peers. U say Kobe gets respect. 81 pts is great dont get me wrong, but 60+ in a playoff game against the eventual champs is By far more important. Seriously….

  117. Trey says:

Kobe is but a cheap shadow, a wannabe MJ. He doesn’t even have the courage, or the skill to be his own unique self. (Props to Lebron)

Kobe tries way too hard – you can’t respect someone whose highest goal is to be an imitation.

  118. Mike says:

Funny reading all this stuff. Seems like a lot of Kobe haters out there. I will try to break it down somewhat in an unbiased manner. I will attempt to go back and forth between the two, possibly touching on Kobe a bit more since he is the active player in the debate. I welcome your thoughts.

I think if you take away all the rings and all the scoring stuff and just look at their skill sets, I think is it very close. The thing that links Kobe and Jordan is their killer instinct. They don’t want to win, they want to step on your throat and rip your heart out. LBJ doesn’t have that, Wade doesn’t have that, Duncan doesn’t have that. You guys all watched the Gold Medal game. Its the fourth quarter, the US has squandered all but a 2 point lead, and Kobe just took over…bucket, bucket, assist, assist, assist, bucket…much like MJ would have done, if put in the same spot.

Kobe has been by far the best player in the league for about the last 8 years. Every player and coach in the league will tell you that. Phil Jackson, having coached them both in their primes, has stated publicly Kobe is the best player he has ever coached, on more than one occasion. Perhaps that is a motivator for Kobe, and Phil is the “Zen-master”, but it is a matter of public record.

Comparing him and Jordan is almost a push. Both devastating late. Both want the ball. Both excellent inside or outside, especially late. Both fiercely competitive. The one area where Kobe could be considered truly better is that everything trick MJ had in his arsenal in a career, Kobe had perfected by age 22-23. The first time I saw him start dropping turn around fadeaway jumpers, I thought, WOW, this kid is 22?!? We never saw that out of Jordan until his 30s. However, you could argue this is because Kobe had the benefit of someone to pattern moves after. To me this doesn’t discredit Kobe, it is simply a product of history.

On the MJ side, you can argue that he was the right person at the right time in the NBA. With the global marketing of “Air Jordan” of course there won’t ever be another like him, because he was the right guy at the right time. Fortunately, he had the game and the looks to make it so. Does this lessen MJ’s on court talent, I don’t think so. The only person you could compare MJ to in this regard is Tiger Woods, and there is no question who is more dominant in his sport. Tiger is the best golfer ever, period, and is a global icon. But this takes us away from the question. Getting back to MJ/Kobe…

I will say this, i have had the priviledge of seeing them both in their primes, and they are very close. Some of the things MJ did on the court still electrify me at the thought. On the Kobe side, can anyone argue that watching him drop 60+ in 3 quarters against Dallas or 81 against Toronto were the greatest displays of offense you have ever witnessed. I enjoy watching both of them.

The one area that doesn’t get talked about, except in regard to Kobe is the whole personality side of things. Ball hog, arrogant, a-hole…all words dumped on Kobe, but I recall all those same things said about MJ too. Personally, I think it has no bearing on their skill set, so I have chosen to ignore it, but mention it here simply because some people have mentioned it. It is a mute point to me.

To compare the greatest of all-time, I think it would only be fair to compare when both guys are finished with their careers. That said, not sure you can compare players from different eras with different rules and a vastly different NBA game. Time will tell, and the debate will rage, and that is the beauty of sport.

Kobe is over MJ and everybody know’s that… so please leave kobe alone … becuz kobe will be 57-8 years in NBA but MJ … will stay home and masturbate in front of his wife .. .so please be serious.MJ is just a old man … is not anymore a basketball player … if u don’t like kobe … compare him with anybody else in NBA and you will se that he is the best .. nobody is over kobe … But NOBODY is over the LEGEND of MJ!!

  123. D Mitch says:

There’s a HUGE difference between the regular season and the playoffs…Kobe is fantastic during the season but wilts for some inexplicable reason when the lights are on…Oh he can win you a game or 2 each series but folds when it matters most

You gotta ask yourself how many signature playoff moments does Kobe have against REAL teams and how many does MJ have? All those regular season stats and moments are cool but no REAL superstar vanishes during the REAL crunch time
