The Thunder Are Already Eyeing Blake Griffin

Blake Griffin isn’t the only one who is dreaming about hearing David Stern call his name first in the NBA Draft in June. Rumors are that Oklahoma City’s brass are licking their chops over the idea of getting the 6-10 OU product come June.
Not that Oklahoma City has to do a lot of tanking to end up with the worst record and best shot at the No. 1 pick in June, but there’s talk that the Thunder will be more than OK with that plan so that it can land Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin. “He’s Carlos Boozer, but with ridiculous athletic ability,” said one Western Conference exec.
With OKC already 2-19, do you think that they are already considering tank mode?

JCARR says:
Its not tank mode! They just can’t win. They dont purposely loose games. Who would loose…really

rodnets says:
no tank mode for them, they get it naturally.
but clay “the thief” bennet is cursed, so they will end up last but will lose the lottery

But cellar dwellers have a right to dream:
PF- Blake Griffin
SF – Green
SG- Durant
PG- Westbrook
C- some free agent
Not a bad core.

sizzle says:
durant at the 2? i haven’t seen too much of him, but i’d say thats a stretch. is he even playing any sf anymore? i think he’s a natural pf.

sizzle says:
btw, what’s up with swift?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Trevor Arreza says:
@sizzle, durant is still playing perimeter. primarily because his body is still reed-thin and he got decent range. still think he’s a more natural 3 because of his skill set. he can face up, shoot, handle.

Durant vs. GS today: 41pts, 10rebs, 4dimes, 3blocks, 1stl. On 6 treys.
Yet they still lost. Bring on Blake Griffin.

And, are they really frickin’ 2-19?? Do you know how bad that is??
December 9th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Jeffrey says:
They tanked the second they left seattle
December 9th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Richard Wellner says:
If they were still in Seattle, this would be much easier to swallow. You could label it as rebuilding and have faith that it would get better in the next few seasons.
However, they are in OKC, and they feel like a cheap expansion team. It’s hard to see a future with these guys, mostly because they look and play with the quality of a 20 dollar hooker.

okc will end up with the worst record, but won’t pick higher than third.

spindlest says:
Don’t forget: even if they have the worst record, they have something like a 75% chance of NOT getting the #1 pick. I’d love to see Bennet’s face when/if that happens.

aaron says:
yea man they aren’t in tank mode. i dont think nba teams purposely tank anyway.
Let me give you an example: i went to an inner city public elementary school that was poorly funded and a local laughing stock. Except for me and literally two other students my school routinely performed extremely low on state tests. From my class of about 25 only 5 graduated high school.
The point is the less that was expected the worse we as a whole performed. We failed not because we were dumb or poorly funded but because it was ingrained in everybody’s mind that we would fail and nobody challeneged that.
Same thing with bad NBA teams. That culture of losing oozes out of the pores of every player on the team and every fan and every nba writer. Losing becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So other then just sitting out star players for 20-30 games(which some have done) NBA teams don’t tank seasons.
Oh remember the ep of south park when the teams were trying to lose. But in the end the most talented team was losing on purpose because they could hit the ball right into the south park’s team mitts n stuff like that. Lol like a team would have to be really good to look so bad.

the rocket cat says:
I wish that the NBA and other U.S. sports leagues had a system like British soccer, where if you’re an evil and incompetent fuck who steals a team and then doesn’t know how to manage it, instead of getting rewarded with a #1 draft pick, you’d just get relegated to a lower division. If we had a relegation-based system, there would be no concerns about teams tanking.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Sweet English says:
No rocket cat, trust me, you dont want that. The draft system is the most logical way of obtaining perfect competition between teams and keeping all teams in the running. As much as i would like tosee Durant killing it with a big market team, we will all have to wait. All that happens in our soccer leagues is the same 2 or 3 teams battle it out at the top and same at the bottom and then everyone else just kind of floats about the middle.
Its real boring.
