The Top 10 Jackers in the NBA
Jamal CrawfordLast night, Warriors fans got their first real introduction to one of the League’s most prolific jack artists. Though Golden State might think that living with Stephen Jackson for years means that you’ve seen it all, think again. Jamal Crawford is statistically, and practically, the biggest jacker in the League – and he proved that in his home debut at ORACLE.
When the Warriors had opportunities – with the lead – to slow it down in overtime and get a good shot, JC took one dribble right into his man’s outstretched arm and hoisted a three before five seconds came off the shot clock. Therein lies the biggest difference between he and SJack. Jackson will take ill-advised three’s. He’ll take a lot of them. But in late-game situations, he generally limits those three’s to transition or to when he’s open in the half court set. Crawford doesn’t care at all what the situation is – if he wants to shoot, he’s shooting.
And that shows in the books. 42% of Jamal’s shots are taken from beyond the arc, and only 28% of them are assisted. Looking through the NBA’s numbers, the next guy who takes over 40% of his shots from three is Roger Mason, Jr. who is assisted on 58% of his makes. In other words, the less often a player is assisted, the less often that they’re likely to be open. And Crawford pulls an awful lot when he shouldn’t necessarily have the green light.
Knowing that Crawford and Jackson are on the list, who rounds out the rest of the Top Ten Jackers in the NBA?
* Jamal Crawford
* Stephen Jackson
* J.R. Smith
* Ben Gordon
* Louis Williams
* John Salmons
* Hedo Turkoglu
* Vince Carter
* Mo Williams
* Anthony Roberson
Honorable Mention: Kevin Durant, Mike Bibby, ‘Melo, Zach Randolph

Richard Wellner says:
@Mr. K1X: Watching someone jack up ill-advised shots is anything but fun to watch. It’s sometimes infuriating. This is the NBA not your local park.
Also, being a jacker doesn’t make him a shooter. Allan Houston was a shooter, Ray Allen is a shooter. To put Jamal Crawford up there with those shooters is an insult to the game and the shooters themselves.

ERIC says:
- Vince hasnt been a jacker in 3 years.
- Roberson doesnt get enough burn to qualify as a jacker (if he is a jacker, so is Eddie House, bc they have similar roles).
- Derek Fisher is a HUGE jacker
- ZBO should be on this list

Promoman says:
Jamal’s a no-brainer. He’s nice, but the only the time you’ll get a pass from him is during layup drills. That’s one major reason why Chicago & the Knicks traded him. I don’t see how Vince made the list. He’s always being called soft but now he’s a ballhog? Which is it? Salmons is known for purposely ignoring teammates and firing up. Hedo shouldn’t be on here. Durant, Carmelo, and Zach need to be put on there and Vince & Hedo need to come off.

Dagomar says:
In the past: KOBE. And Iverson.
I’m a little surprised TJ Ford isn’t on that list. There are streches in games when he wants to score and he refuses to give it to anyone else. I remember screaming at my TV when he played for the Raps.
Ditto for Ricky “Buckets.” Sheed is a bit of a jacker too.

I know he’s not in the league any more, but Slava Medvedenko was the biggest jacker I’ve ever seen. I remember the announcers used to clown him all the time saying “he’s never seen a shot he didn’t like” lol. One of my friends plays exactly like him and we still call him Medvedenko.

Have you guys watched the guy play this year, or are you just going off the negativity of years past when he supposedly lived outside the arc and hasn’t breathed the fumes of the painted area?
Dude has been balling this year, inside and outside. He’s been as efficient as he’s ever been and he attacks the rim as consistently as anybody in the L outside of LeBron right now. That’s the truth.
