The Worst “Inside” Shooter in the NBA
Sorry, RonOver at 82games.com, where they compute stats so detailed it’s frightening, they separate the court into three categories - three-pointers, two-pointers, and “inside” - in order to compute their “Detailed Shooting Statistics.”
Their breakdown requires a bit of an explanation: even though LeBron only scores 5.4 points per game on “two-pointers”, that doesn’t include the 12.0 points per game he averages on “inside” shots.
As you’d imagine, a ton of those “inside” shots are dunks. LeBron currently is third in the League with 35 crams, behind only Nene (with 39) and Dwight Howard (with 41).
So if the majority of those “inside” shots are either dunks or gimmies, just how bad could someone’s field goal percentage be on those tries? Believe it or not, Ron Artest is making only 37.7% of his tries within a few feet of the basket. There are roughly 100 guys who are shooting more than 60% from that distance, but Ron-Ron can’t seem to find the touch from that range. And it’s not like this is some statistical anomaly - he’s taken nearly 30% of his field goal attempts from the “inside.”
And while Artest is having a tough time right next to the rim, Rajon Rondo is just about the worst “two-pointer” shooter imaginable. If he’s not getting a lay-up or a dunk, he’s not making anything. On those “inside” shots, Rondo’s knocking down 71.8% of his tries. But when he’s got to hoist a jumper - even inside the three-point line - he’s making it 17.8% of the time. That’s God awful.

@ Jeremy.
James is averaging .354% from 2 point jumpers and averaging 5.4 points a game from that area and from three he is averaging .273% whilst averaging just over three points a game from long range. in other words hes shooting nearly four three pointers a game and actually hitting one a game.
Inside shots (as stated before, a lot of dunks) are getting him an easy 12.0 points a game and he is shooting .718 from close up.
Good stat that i just picked up on 82games, Jamal Crawford is averaging 9.5 points a game JUST FROM OUTSIDE THE ARC, and still averaging .455 from outside! The guy is wet from long range.

Yeah I think this has to do with the way Ron plays. He’s always being guarded by either a power foward or bangin down low with someone bigger. While he doesn’t dunk alot even when hes open.
