The Worst Player in the NBA
MardyRight now, Mardy Collins is making a strong play for Jerome James‘ throne as the worst player in the League.
In his nine games as a Los Angeles Clipper, Collins has taken 29 shot attempts from the floor. Only ten of them have been successful, while 13 of the 29 haven’t drawn iron. Despite his anemic offensive skill set, Collins isn’t shy about trying to create shots for himself, and that hurts his team, because airballs have this way of producing really good opportunities for the other side.
To make that perfectly clear, Collins has airballed more shots than he’s made since joining the Clippers. On the other side, he is a serviceable defender, which is probably enough to keep him above James, but not by much. His 34% FG rate from the floor in L.A. isn’t the worst in the League – he’s got Malik Rose, Damien Wilkins, Sebastian Telfair, and DeShawn Stevenson beat right now. But it’s hard to imagine that anyone else misses as badly, as often as Collins does. DeShawn’s 31.6% rate is so low because he takes dumb shots. Even when Collins is open, he doesn’t come close.
Teams can’t double off of DeShawn – he’ll knock down open three’s. But teams who don’t double off of Collins are downright idiotic.

I fell out of my fucking chair laughing at Brian Scalabrini the other night against New Orleans. He tried to take the last shot as the clock was expiring, but he pump faked once and then got his shit swatted when he finally tried to shoot a three. Everyone on the Celtics bench enjoyed a nice laugh after that one. What a fuckin joke. He’s still a better player than me or you though, so more power to him.

Sure, but the way he was spinning it was god awful. Why not just come out and say that he’d only play Marbury if half the roster got traded. For him to tell me that Mardy had a better upside than Steph, offensively, was insulting.

This probably sounds crazy but a miss is a miss. And often the offense benefits from an airball if it doesn’t go out of bounds. whether a ball rims out or is a complete airball it is still a miss. It’s like almost winning the lottery. Either you did or you didn’t. That being said the Clippers need to cut Collins

Collins is a decent defender, so I don’t think of him as being anywhere near the worst. Jerome James is on a whole different plane of uselessness.
Then you have players like Anthony Roberson, who can shoot, but do pretty much nothing else well and are a completely poor fit for their team. That’s another level of uselessness.
The Mardy Collinses and Quincy Doubys of the world are painfully mediocre. Worst? Not sure the question is interesting enough in this case, considering I’d have to think hard about varying levels of lameness.

It’s Jerome James, hands down. Cardinal and Turiaf are not that bad. I don’t think Madsen is any longer in the league. Walker is useless going on 4-5 years now but could still dominate a Y game. Some others to consider: Jake Voskhul, Adonal Foyle, and every center on OKC’s roster (except Collison and Wilcox, who are PFs but play center).
