There is no such thing as a career-ending injury nowadays.
Honestly.
Tear your acl, mcl, pcl, and dislocate evrything in your knee, ala Shaun Livinsgton, and you could still get back on the court. Microfracture surgery? Kenyon and Amare dunkin on people again. Vehicle accident? Monta’s ankle, JWill’s leg, Dermarr’s neck, JR Smith’s broken conscience, been there, done that. Paul Pierce got stabbed and Andre Blatche got shot and neither missed even a preseason game. Cancer? Nene and Colby Karl got that beat. Paralysis? Ford is just as damned fast as he ever was. Hearts in danger of bursting? Hasn’t happened yet to Cat ot Turiaf.
Seriously, we are at that age where doctors can fix you up. Maybe you won’t be as good as before, but your career can continue for as long as you want to.
So the only question that remains when discussing career-ending issues is the one thing doctors can’t repair- DESIRE.
Some players just don’t have the heart for this- for the daily grind and the desire to win it all- and that makes everything else impossible.
