Top 5 Biggest Floppers In The NBA

In a recent episode on NBA TV, Rick Kamla goes through who he thinks are the biggest floppers in the League. If you’re a student of the game, it’s no surprise this list is populated by Argentinians…

While Vlade Divac is the undisputed champion of all-time, the modern day floppers list comes to this:

Andres Nocioni
Manu Ginobili
Fabricio Oberto
Anderson Varejao
Jason Collins

In your opinion, who’s currently the biggest flopper in the League?

Uhhmmm… yea i believe i posted this yesterday in the “one shot, one three pointer” and “the worst player in the NBA”.

And yea Verajeo is the worst flopper. His hair gives him an edged too.

  2. Kobeef says:

Wow….a little hard on the Argentenians…

    Bruce Bowen?
It’s not always flopping but Dwayne Wade is always on the floor.

  3. Ian says:

    oh no
my fav player (manu) is gonna get blasted today lol

kobeef yup a little harsh yup sure they flop but even the haters gotta admit they can play

  4. Xavier says:

Monta Ellis does some pretty awesome flops every now and again.

  5. fallinup says:

Devin Harris should be on that list. Didn’t he lead the league in flops not too long ago?

  6. Diego says:

Zaza Pachulia is a flopping machine for a guy so big.

  7. Hayesfan says:

It’s all in the hair, they sell those flops with the long hair… (of course I have no idea what happened to Manu’s hair, he needs to go to one of those hair replacement specialists)

  8. Heckler says:

    allen iverson flops A LOT.

note: flopping is not just delegated to defense, players flop on offense. And i’ve never seen a player flop more on OFFENSE than allen iverson.

you sniffle and him and his whole body will go 7 steps in the other direction.

drawing fouls in the league is an art; but flopping cheapens the game.

  9. Deez says:

what about the “yelling” flop – screaming as you go to the hoop. Bron Kobe and Vince top that list.

  10. Deez says:

what about the “yelling” flop – screaming as you go to the hoop. Bron Kobe and Vince top that list.

  11. vINNY says:

    anybody from duke.

  12. Mark says:

Although he is really good at cutting off people to draw the foul, Chris Paul really sells by flopping. Not so much this year, from what I’ve seen.

I agree with the list. I hate watching all those players. Although they’re likely 100% more athletic than I, flopping really makes you appear UNathletic.

  13. isotope says:

flopping on offense has to go to Wade. I dont know if its intentional or not but dude seems to end up on the floor everytime he has the ball.

  14. RANDO4 says:

    Raja Bell

  15. Ian says:

    alltime the man is divac

    dezz
u r right about that i dont watch bron or vince alot but kobe everytime he misses a drive hes always yellin like someone hit him.

  16. Ian says:

    sorry its deez not dezz

  17. rangerjohn says:

yeah yeah yeah, dime is trying to make up for the spurs praise they gave yesterday. gonna have to try harder, like the entire spurs team is on roids, now that would be a shocker

  18. that's whats up says:

Jason Collins is from Argentina ??

  19. Big North says:

Anyone that plays Shaq is the flop king for that night.

  20. isotope says:

At least Divac would fall dowwn but get right back up to oplay D. Nowadays floppers just stay on the grown and cry. I’m sure Divac is embarassed.

  21. Ross says:

    No Derek Fisher?

  22. dagwaller says:

Hahah. Funny list. Does anyone know if any players have been fined this season for flopping?

Also, I hope that there is an “offensive flop” list. Like Reggie Miller, D Wade, etc.

Finally, props to these guys for doing something that is defensively sound. Until they change the rule, this is technically a charge!

  23. Dagomar says:

In soccer and basketball, what is it with the South Americans? Same goes for the southern Europeans; and especially the Iberians, from which South American culture in part descends. Is this a cultural thing? Coincidence? Or something else?

  24. one66soul says:

Need to start a list off offensive floppers. I hate when an offensive player leans into a defensive player to draw a foul…….offensive flopping is just as bad as defensive flopping…..

Paul Pierce is definitely at the top of the list. and I probably would have wade and bron bron in the top ten of offensive flopping.

  25. Dagomar says:

PS: I wish the NBA would hire some people to go over replays of these games, identify obvious flops, and assess penalties. PLEASE.

  26. rangerjohn says:

steve naash is a flopper, offensively also. nothing worse then him bouncing off teh defender like a ping pong ball for no reason.

by the way did anyone else see the TERRIBLE CALL during the spurs thunder game, where durant ran into his own guy and then bounced off into bowen and they called bowen for a foul, bowen was not even looking in durants direction.

  27. fallinup says:

As long as charging is still a violation. Flops will forever be a defensive weapon. No matter how shitty it be.

  28. Bachir says:

    Dear Dime,
for clarification, Argentine, and not Argentinian, is the proper demonym for a person from Argentina…In case you interview Manu or Nocioni one of these days.

  29. Ian says:

    dagomar
did u look up all that bs about it being a cultural thing???
is being a douche and an american thing?

lets just call it coincidence on this one

  30. control says:

This reason is straight out the main reason I find it a chore sometimes to watch the NBA. It just ruins the game having people play “defense” by falling on the ground when someone looks in their direction. Vlade needs to be burning in hell for bringing this bullshit to the game.

The reason I can never be convinced that Manu is anything more than a decent role player is because of his stupid flopping. It is by far my most hated tactic in basketball. I would honestly rather have someone try to sweep my feet everytime I jump instead of flopping like that guy.

The biggest reason flopping is as prevailent in the NBA right now is because the reffing is HORRIBLE right now. I think the NBA should get rid of every single one of their refs and find some new blood. Recruit new refs from ball parks, prisons and 3on3 tournaments…refs who aren’t fucking pussies and will call anything a foul just because someone happened to touch another person. It’s pure bullshit!

    ranger

I didn’t even notice they had refs at Thunder games…I thought they were like call your own foul scrimmages…

  31. Ian says:

damn control comon bro dont call manu a just a role player

btw i think they send one ref to the thunder games

  32. control says:

After watching a shittun of Anderson Varejao “Highlights” I feel sick to my stomach. If he’s asked what he does for a living I don’t think there is anyway he can say with a straight face he plays basketball. He must be like “I walk onto basketball games and trip all over the court like a drunk idiot. I am a modern sports version of Charley Chaplin.”

Man, what a douche bag. If I were him, I’d wear a clown mask/hair to hide my real identity as well.

  33. control says:

    Ian

Like I’ve said before, he MIGHT have a small bit of legit skills, but as long as he engages in his crazy antics and shenanigans, there is no way I can take him seriously.

  34. Dagomar says:

Ian, if only I was American.

  35. rangerjohn says:

well it might have been a 12 yr old kid with a spiderman whistle that called that foul

  36. Both Teams Played Hard says:

Surely, Amare needs to start getting some real consideration.

  37. Ian says:

    lol dago sorry
well it wasnt directly to u then lets call it coincidence also

    control
ok u dont like his game because of that no prob but the man has skills u cant say a bit of legit skills
but again this is not if manu can play or not its if he flops he does. but he can playyyyy lol

    dago
sorry again i just didnt like the cultural thing in your post

  38. one66soul says:

Top Offensive Floppers just to name a few

    paul pierce

    manu ginobli

    bron bron

    wade

  39. Ross says:

    Ranger,
Yeah, I remember that call. I think the Thunder were still down at that point by a lot, and the ref’s were trying to help them out. Durant clearly ran into his own man.

  40. Rafa23 says:

if we are talking about running into your own man, look at this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-igP_XG-kCo

  41. JoeCozi says:

DERRICK FISHER!!!!…..Biggest flopper of ALL TIME….I used to hate when Lakers fans would cry about Vlade floppin all the damn time and then act like Fisher wasn’t doing the same damn thing!!…I can’t stand Derrick Flopper!!

  42. Delonte West says:

D-Fish is so bad…he flops while he HAS the ball. Watch him drive to the hoop next time.

  43. dagwaller says:

one soul, i like your list.

  44. Austin Burton says:

Kobe has the arm-flailing, yelling if he gets touched in the lane “flop” down.

LeBron has the grab-my-face/nose if I get contact “flop” down.

Iverson and Wade have the Troy-Palomalu-just-hit-me upon contact from the defense “flop” down.

  45. added says:

    surprised nobody has mentioned bogut…

check the stats for most charges drawn over the last few seasons…its varejao and bogut in the top 2 to 3…

having said that….at least bogut does it in context of the game…bowen and manu just flops when someone looks at them cock-eyed…

  46. HBooyah says:

Iverson does NOT flop. See following link:

    http://www.nba.com/sixers/features/iverson_injuries.html

Sure, he goes in too hard, gets hit and falls down. But c’mon, the dude is tiny – wouldn’t you fall if you ran into a guy 6 inches and 60 pounds heavier than you?

  47. HBooyah says:

I think with guys like Lebron, Pierce and Wade, we have to look at the difference between “flopping” and “drawing contact”. Sure, you can see defenders get incredibly frustrated when those guys (particularly Wade) drive to the hoop and draw contact in a way the defender could never avoid, but that’s being an intelligent, talented player, who can make plays . . . not being a flopper.

  48. EGB says:

the biggest flopper in the history of basketball is dirk. good way to help lose $500 in 06. good job dirk!!!

  49. rodnets says:

    “Populated with Argentinians”

“Im from Argentina and not so long ago we kick serious World butts”

Flopping means being smart enough to take a charge.

Nocioni is a flopper? Yeah right, every time someone dunks on him because he challenges a dunk he is flopping.

Manu is a flopper? Tell it to his multiple rings

    Great call Dime..very interesting article.

  50. Student Of The Game says:

Manu Ginobili is king of all floppers.. Hell lets just put down the whole Spurs roster

  51. Jay says:

    Wow nobody mentioned Pau Gasol????

  52. SteveNash says:

here is a debate for you… are the flopper the TOUGHEST players on the court??? they do take the hits and they always put their body’s in front of the big bangers in the leage… so i say the floppers are the toughest cz they are willing to give up their body’s for their teams!!!

    what do you think

  53. HBooyah says:

    SteveNash:

It’s a call on who’s a “flopper” and who’s a man that draws contact effectively. Ginobili: flopper. Bowen: flopper. Fisher: flopper. Wade, Iverson, Lebron: draw contact. And those guys ARE tough.

  54. ur brother says:

yo i got love for nocioni, if u watch him play its pretty funny

  55. control says:

    ur brother

    fag.

  56. AB_40 says:

everybody in the nba is flopping now a days… shaq falling down for a charge? seriously SHAQ+chargein2000= hahahahahaha that wasn’t even possible I just hope they don’t take it to the soccer level where grown men cry like baby’s

  57. andy w says:

This article (and the NBA video piece) is just silly. All players flop, some are just better at it. Taking charges is a critical part of any player worth anything on D…

  58. Bron42 aka Thugnificant says:

takin a charge and doing a cartwheel if a gust of wind comes past are 2 different things. I’m sorry but if ur free leave the ground and ur over 6’4, ur no longer taking a charge. thats acting. Like when nash got checked by horry and spiraled into the wall like a bad guy in mike tysons punch out? that was realistic? or DJ augustine doing a back bend in mid air just from derrick rose touching his ring finger on a jump shot? The funniest are when someone flops and his man isn’t even going in that direction. Like dwight howard was posting varjeo and went to fade away and AV flopped 5 feet back like dwight was still pushing on him still. shame

what about the “yelling” flop – screaming as you go to the hoop. Bron Kobe and Vince top that list.
    ——————————————————

Nah Rip Hamilton is the all time leader at that. He got it from his idol Reggie Miller

  61. Allen says:

    Delonte West says:
D-Fish is so bad…he flops while he HAS the ball. Watch him drive to the hoop next time.
    —————————————————–

I’m a die hard Lakers fan since the 80′s and I can attest to this. Derek Fisher is the greatest offensive flopper of all time. Rather than focusing to finish a layup, he flops and blows more layups than anyone I’ve seen. Fisher looks at the refs after an offensive flop and the refs would say, “Look, there wasn’t anyone 10 feet near you.”. Fisher sucks. He needs to practice fundamental layups and not resort to flopping.
