Wilson Chandler To Stay Past 2010

Perhaps the only positive residual from the Isiah Thomas era is Wilson Chandler. Averaging 14.5 points and 5.7 rebounds, Chandler has started 14 out of 18 games for the Knicks this season after only playing in 35 a year ago.

Mike D’Antoni is trying to mold the 6-8 Chandler as a power forward in his run-and-gun offense a la Shawn Marion now that Zach Randolph calls Los Angeles his home. Throw in David Lee and Nate Robinson and you have a solid core to build around.

“Chandler is the rarest of Knicks, and not only because he is athletic, oozing with potential and doesn’t seek the spotlight. What separates Chandler from most of his teammates is that management believes he will still be around after 2010, when the Knicks dive into the free agent market to revamp their roster.”

In two years, a core of Chandler, Lee and Robinson should provide the talent – and the cap flexibility – to make a splash in free agency as the Knicks hope to add two stars to the roster.

Where do you think Chandler fits in to New York’s plans?

If he doesn’t have a signed contract this don’t mean shit

A lot of times, I pine back to the days when the Lakers and the Celtics were horrible, because now that these two obnoxiously-large fan bases have become enabled, it’s…obnoxious.

Hopefully for my sake the Knicks bobble the 2010 free agent class.

Somehow I doubt it, though. It seems impossible for them to mess it up any worse than they have for the past 8 years. They wasted about 100 million dollars over that span of time in salaries – you’d think that no franchise could make the same decade long mistake twice.

…although I believe T-Mac is a free agent that year – maybe they’ll drop a bunch of money on him…

Benton Harbor, MI. product on Dime. haha

The kid was a straight up superstar when he was in high school here. He got snubbed for the McDonald’s High School game that was held his senior year in South Bend….only about a hour from his high school. The whole area was pissed.

I’m glad he’s flourishing in D’Antoni’s system. Keep him.

I saw Chandler play in person in Vegas, and he did exactly what he should’ve done in Vegas, he played well above most of the other summer league guys, and was definitely impressive to say the least.

He seems to have the talent and character to make you think he could be a glue guy, especially with all the variables he brings to the table.

Hopefully he takes this opportunity and continues to run with it.

OMG, Vin Baker released due to….poor conditioning! The lies!

I like Chandler, but he’s had more instances where he’s looked lost lately…I think he’s still trying to get used to DLee in the lane instead of ZBo. He can be a special player if he just develops some consistency with his jumper.

  7. Michorizo says:

Chandler looks lost because the Knicks don’t have the players to compliment his game. Right now it seems like everyone on the Knicks team is just trying out for the other teams. Cuz come 2010 they will be out of a job.

  8. Heckler says:

mike d’antoni is the worst coach in nba history. he’s got to be.
wilson chandler as a power forward? this coach is a damn fool. he doesn’t give his own team a chance to win games. he has no balance to his lineup. no size. no defense.

i dunno about wilson chandler…but if he ends up being a good player, its still due to isiah drafting him. isiah’s drafting has always been the strength of his vision after being a player. Isiah Thomas’ draft track speaks for itself (damon stoudamire, marcus camby, tracy mcgrady, fred jones, nate, david lee, trevor ariza, reynaldo balkman, channing frye…not to mention i think HE traded for jermaine o’neal and ron artest).

    nothing against wilson….
…but back to d’antoni….this guy is putting a small lineup on the court and then has the nerve to get upset when his team doesnt rebound or get easy buckets in a half court set.

why not just play nate robinson at center?…afterall, he did block a yao ming shot 2yrs ago…

  9. Celts Fan says:

love him. saw big things from him before the season and he’ll only get better.

  10. MoxWestCoastRep says:

Thats cool he will get to play w LBJ and win a few rings…

  11. vinny says:

Aron, i dont see nate robinson as someone you build around. Chandler-yes he will only get better.
@heckler Mike is annoying but guys want to play for him-and his teams play hard(even if they dont play much defense)but he is no way as bad as you make him sound.
shit 1 year in phoenix his starting 5(if i remember right) was stat, nash, johnson, q and marion-they were small as hell 2 but they rebounded.

  12. George W Kush Sr says:

Nate is good as first guard off the bench.
    Chandler is a SF, not a 4.

Good gawd do the Knicks need LBJ.

  13. hahns says:

knicks need to retain SOME pieces in 2010…or else youre asking fans to buy into a team that are the knicks in name only…we need some familiar faces imo.

we need to keep nate, dlee, and chandler.

  14. doc says:

If u call that a solid core yall are more desperate than I thought.

  15. Dave says:

I think Wilson Chandler gives the Knicks a lot of options in 2010. He could play three positions (SG, SF, PF) if needed which allows the Knicks to sign just about anyone without regard to how Chandler fits in with them. Chandler allows them to make so many different scenarios work.
