control says:
I hope Melo doesn’t make it…not that he could play anyways. Guy is being a bitch sitting out with an injury a REAL man would play through. Nuggets are better without em anyways.
January 29th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
Mister Sun says:
yes, what a bitch sitting out with a broken hand and not playing through it and making it even worse for the stretch run. how dumb is he…
January 29th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
K.i.n.G. says:
all-star reserves announced:
Yahoo! Sports obtained the rosters, and the West reserves also include the Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol, New Orleans Hornets’ David West, Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki, San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker, Denver Nuggets’ Chauncey Billups and Portland Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy.***
The East reserves include two Orlando Magic, Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis. East coaches also chose the Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce, Atlanta Hawks’ Joe Johnson, Toronto Raptors’ Chris Bosh, New Jersey Nets’ Devin Harris and Indiana Pacers’ Danny Granger.
***Shaq made the team as well
January 29th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
Rashard Lewis is not deserving of this spot
@ Dime what’s up with Drew Bynum, I heard he’s not getting suspended.
January 29th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Rico says:
It’s too bad Desmond Mason got injured - he was a for sure in for the all-star game.
January 29th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Mister Sun says:
thats so funny rico…NOT!!!
January 29th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Austin Burton says:
Mason could have gone; somebody had to be Russell Westbrook’s alley-oop partner had he gotten into the dunk contest.
(Is there any doubt Sergio will be Rudy’s alley-oop partner? I’m assuming Lowry or Conley goes for Rudy Gay, Jameer goes for Dwight, and Duhon goes for Nate.)
January 29th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Austin Burton says:
Anyone watching the TNT broadcast? Is it just me or is LeBron’s hairline creeping back a little faster than it should?
January 29th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Austin Burton says:
WEST reserves — Dirk, Gasol, Parker, B-Roy, Shaq, Chauncey, David West.
The only one I have a problem with is D-West; I would have taken Durant or Jefferson.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
QuEst?? says:
d west shouldnt have been there maybe chris paul had something to do with it. wtf is pau and chauncey there and i hope that jameer nelson aint true cuz i will boycott the allstar game if i see iverson being taken out of the game for jameer nelson. fuck that
January 29th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
QuEst?? says:
id rather have rajon rondo, jose calderon, DEVIN Harris , hell id even take tj ford over jameer nelson
January 29th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Austin Burton says:
I like how Kenny Smith tried to bait Chauncey into saying he’s Denver’s best player, but he didn’t bite and gave that crown to Carmelo. Good look to keep your scorers happy, CB.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
QuEst?? says:
anyone watching the stats!!! did u see that pau west jefferson comparison!!!!! why are west and pau there! yall complain about the voting but some selections have been messed up.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Morality Squad says:
Wow, DWest shouldn’t be there. And Rashard shouldn’t be there. Mos def. Looks like the coaches just voted for the old stand bys and didn’t really look at who’s been playing this season.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Austin Burton says:
I will say this: From a pure standpoint of who would make the All-Star Game itself more entertaining, West is a better pick (chemistry with CP & more of an athlete). But it’s a status thing. Yeah, Jefferson would probably go to the ASG and not making much of a mark, but being recognized as one of the best players in the League is the important thing.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
fallinup says:
Harshest snub was Jefferson. Durant a very close second. It don’t matter how your playing on the team as long as the team is winning your an Allstar, it seems.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Kudabeen says:
Jefferson should have been in over West…
January 29th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
QuEst?? says:
damnn tnt just played a cruel joke on the knicks fans, putting david lee highlights at the beginning
January 29th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Ian says:
lol west over jefferson is a joke
and paul over durant is debatable
January 29th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Austin Burton says:
C-Webb calling Reggie Miller a male escort almost made me spit out my Sprite.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Ian says:
LOL the magic get 3????
January 29th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Austin Burton says:
EAST reserves — Pierce, Bosh, Joe Johnson, Granger, Devin, Rashard, Jameer
January 29th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
minnesotta says:
No Love in the Rookie Challenge. No Jefferson in ASG. No Mike Miller in the 3 point contest. Fans, NBA officials, and coaches are bad at voting/picking.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Austin Burton says:
I like Rashard, but I don’t think Orlando deserved THREE All-Stars. There aren’t too many other forwards you could make a good case for. Maybe Caron, Jamison, Tayshaun.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
QuEst?? says:
jameer has no business being there, ray allen is better, josecalderon is better, hedo turkeglu is better. Jameer isnt even the 4rth best player in his team!
January 29th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
QuEst?? says:
what about vince, he can play sf
January 29th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
QuEst?? says:
DAVID LEE HAHAHAHAHA
January 29th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Austin Burton says:
Not much controversy with the East squad. I can see why Rashard went over one of the Wizards forwards and Tayshaun. I would have liked to see Mo Williams and/or Ray Allen make the team, but it’s already guard-heavy. The problem is that Iverson is taking somebody’s spot.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
we want vince carter says:
Watch Jameer score 5 points on 2-15 shooting tonight. Mo Williams will show him who the real all-star should be. haha.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
ticktock6 says:
I just blogged this, because I knew it would happen, that immediately people slam D West as the guy who shouldn’t be there.
But the numbers say that West (20/7), Gasol (17/9), and Shaq (18/9 but he doesn’t play back to backs? gimme a break) are realistically ALL bigs that could have been tossed for Jefferson, who averages 23/10.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
fallinup says:
Q: “Rashard, how does it feel to be an Allstar by default???”
A: “About as good as my bloated contract. Life is gooood.”
January 29th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
Austin Burton says:
@ticktock6 — I see what you mean, but no one’s gonna argue against Gasol because he plays for the best team in the West and has good enough numbers. The Lakers should have more than one All-Star, and after Kobe, Gasol’s the only realistic option. As far as Shaq, he might have gotten a nod because he’s been better than Amare, and Amare is going. (Plus Shaq has only played one fewer game than D-West.)
January 29th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
QuEst?? says:
shaq deserves the spot he is a legit center, dwest is a byproduct of chris paul, the same as shawn marion was a byproduct of steve nash. shaq isnt a byproduct of anyone @ austin look at these stats
Jameer Nelson: 16.9 5.4 1.2
Allen Iverson: 17.7 5.5 1.5
Jameer nelson is having his best year, allen iverson is having an off year and he is playing better than jameer. would u seriously pick jameer over allen iverson?
January 29th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
Ian says:
quest
non of them have to be in
allen and vince should get those spots even mo is more deserving
January 29th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Quest — I’m also looking at Orlando being 9 games ahead of Detroit, how the Pistons got worse since A.I. came aboard, and how Jameer’s shooting percentages across the board are way better than Iverson’s.
January 29th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Ian says:
austin u know quests fav player is iverson but jameer is having the better allaround season imo
sorry quest
January 29th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
ticktock6 says:
@ Austin: I dunno, across the board there weren’t many guys who made it from subpar teams. The way it is now, the top 3 teams in the West have 2 guys each. It seems all right. Denver is #4 and might have had Melo, but he’s hurt anyway.
Maybe it’s just the MASSIVE CHIP on my shoulder because I watch a guy for 82 games a year and always have to read people writing misinformed hate about his game. That said, no, I didn’t think West would make it. His rebounds are down. Maybe everyone watched the Hornets/Lakers game??
January 29th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
QuEst?? says:
@ Austin Orlando is way better coached than detroit, i honestly believe that the reason the pistons are losing is because michael curry does not know how to manage the talents of his players, Like i said before, if they did a run and gun style type of play they would be way more succesful and they have the talent and defensive minded players. Mike D’antoni should have gone to detroit.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Austin Burton says:
Good point by Kenny Smith … Mo Williams is gonna go at Jameer HARD tonight. I’ll bet right now Mo takes at least 20 shots.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
dmitry of jersey says:
Jameer Nelson just got PAID.
Did you think maybe we are all wrong and Nelson is becoming a great poing guard?
nah
January 29th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
dmitry of jersey says:
I think Mo should have made it. He is proving himself where others like Larry Hughes have failed.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Vinny says:
How could they take Rashard over David lee? the knicks are in playoff contention so u cant use the losing team argument!! and jammer over mo???? i hope he lights him up tonight! and gasol doesnt deserve to be in at all- i dont care who he plays for- jefferson should be on that team!!
January 29th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
K Dizzle says:
Lovin Reggie sayin the Eastern coaches should be shot for not havin Mo in the gym…I’m just glad Vince didn’t get in, but Pierce stole Ray Allen’s spot
January 29th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
QuEst?? says:
OH MY GODDDDDDD…..REST IN PEACE RIM…LEBRON JUST MURDERED IT
January 29th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
K Dizzle says:
That flop by Varejao cracked everybody up…Seriously, dude. D up
January 29th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Aron Phillips says:
Sorry guys. Just got home off. Long subway ride. That LeBron dunk was NASTY!
January 29th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Austin Burton says:
Maybe Mo Williams will crack the Three-Point Shootout field…
January 29th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Bigdoggchad says:
How did melo not make it? DAVID WEST!??And for everyone saying melo wouldn’t play in the all-star game cause he is injured must not of seen he is gonna play tomorrow against Charlotte. Hope he plays with a chip on his shoulder now. Plus his elbow has had time to heal. Watch out western conference!
January 29th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Aron Phillips says:
Both Rashard and Jameer? That’s crazy.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Aron Phillips says:
A Duhon-Nate connect like last night!
January 29th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
Aron Phillips says:
Why so much David West hate? This guy is on-par with last year’s All-Star season and the Hornets are arguably better.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Austin Burton says:
Why have they taken so long to announce the Three-Point field anyway? I always thought the All-Stars were announced last.
Anyway, in a field of five, I’d take Roger Mason, Ray Allen, Steve Nash, Rashard, and one of the Lakers (Fisher or Radmanovic).
January 29th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Austin Burton says:
Oh, I guess I’d have to let Kapono come back and defend his title. So Mason, Nash, Ray, Kapono and a Laker.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Bigdoggchad says:
Not hating on David West just don’t get why melo gets snubbed every year. 6th year 2 all-star games and one he was a replacement. All he does is lead his team to the playoffs every year in the west. He is one of the best scorers in the league and was improving his rebounding and defense and was playing a lot more unselfish this year.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Aron Phillips says:
For the East, I gotta agree with Austin. Choose either Nelson or Lewis, and give that last spot to either Ray Allen or Mo Williams.
For the West, I agree you gotta take Gasol, but Parker? Really?! The Spurs got one and Big Al has been killing dudes.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
K Dizzle says:
@ Austin
no Lakers in the three point contest
Fish never goes and Vladdy’s not a big enough name
Maybe Nash cuz they in Phoenix and Nash gotta do somethin
January 29th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Aron Phillips says:
@Bigdoggchad
I agree. Had ‘Melo not gotten hurt, he’s definitely on this team, perhaps starting over Amare.
Side note: Can’t wait to see Steve Nash reunite with D’Antoni…
January 29th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
K Dizzle says:
Tony Parker’s only played 2 more games than DWill, but I guess 20 and 6.6 is seen as bigger than 17 and 11
January 29th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
BEdger says:
um…just because the Knicks are in the playoff hunt doesn’t keep them from being a losing team, that’s the East for you
January 29th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Aron Phillips says:
Note to self: After saying Wally has his vote for the ASG, never listen to Reggie Miller again…
January 29th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
ObamaObamaObamaObama!!!! says:
yo forget all you iverson haters I know I wanna see an entertaing all star game and what other east guard except for maybe dwade is more fun??? Sorry it ain’t jameer nelson I mean he’s good but who really wants to watch him play??? I don’t I’d rather see Turk
January 29th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
BEdger says:
who’s more fun than Iverson? well, I would say any real PG who will pass the ball to open teammates would be more fun
January 29th, 2009 at 8:55 pm
Austin Burton says:
To update my “Parker over Deron” argument, what is that, 3 All-Star Games to zero now?
January 29th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
dmitry of jersey says:
I’m going to share something with all of you. When I came to New York as a wee immigrant from east Europe, I never heard of Shaquille or Penny. And when I started watching ball, Shaq was dominating games just like Dwight is trying to do now. Makes my heart warm, man, for some reason, even though I know there won’t be another Shaq.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Austin Burton says:
I forgot about the Shooting Stars and the Skills Challenge. Nash could be involved in either of those, so he might not have to be in the Three-Point Shootout.
Phoenix will definitely have a squad in the Shooting Stars (current player, former player, celeb/WNBA player): I’m thinking Taurasi-or-Pondexter, Majerle-or-KJ, and Nash-or-Barbosa.
January 29th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Celts Fan says:
@Vinny - glad someone else mentioned this, if Rashard is there as a forward and not one of the two “pick any guy” slots, you gotta take David Lee over him. 38 starts, 32 double doubles. Is it due to the system he runs? Yes, but #s are #s and they’re gonna get out and run and play no D in the All Star game anyway, so it’d be just like a normal Knicks game only with talent around him.
Ray Allen and Vince Carter both have reason to hate AI right now. The fans don’t know shit. He stole Vince and/or Ray’s spot.
I like David West, the #s aren’t there, but the TWolves have been bad enough you can justify not voting for Big Al (who I LOVE) on that principle. Same w/ Kevin Durant. No worries, they’ve both got plenty more opportunities and should make plenty of ASGs by the time all’s said and done.
to dude tossing out Jameer hate, he’s not a superstar, but he’s been an All Star this year. I was a hater earlier on, but dude’s ballin this year. he’s earned it.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
K Dizzle says:
just flipped to espn classic showin the raps beat the 96 bulls on kerr’s miss and mike’s rebound and baseline jumper was a split second late. Hasrd to believe that mighta been the raps franchise hilite…
January 29th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Celts Fan says:
*David West’s #s arent there compared to last year. still damn good. 20 and 7 is nothing to downplay. dude deserves it, even if he was probably the 12th guy on the team…
January 29th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
ObamaObamaObamaObama!!!! says:
I am so sick n tired of ppl sayin he doesnt pass. Ok in Philly it was his job to carry most of the offense but the last couple of years he hasn’t been that way especially in Detroit he doesn’t take as many shots check the stats and actually passes alot. He has sacraficed alot of his game trying to fit in Detroit so really I don’t one wat ur talking bout bedger.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Austin Burton says:
I agree, Iverson is a better/more willing passer than he gets credit for, but even I have to admit he has a lot of 30-shot games and 2-for-20 stat lines that make it understandable why people feel the way they do about him.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Austin Burton says:
Was the Jameer/Delonte backcourt the most tatted backcourt in the history of basketball?
January 29th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
Celts Fan says:
@AB - still pushing on w/ that TP argument huh? love it…
I’m also glad the stupid “the game’s in Phx, so Nash’ll probably make it anyway” bs reasoning didn’t play out. I was surprised TP made it, but at least he deserved it. Nash definitely didnt
January 29th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
K Dizzle says:
Bron got no post up game…
January 29th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Celts Fan — Maybe I’ll drop it when Deron can beat TP in a playoff series.
Funny, I remember when I first learned the 2009 ASG would be in Phoenix, I said it was going to be Steve Nash’s great swan song. I figured by that time the Suns still wouldn’t be a legit championship contender, Nash would be nearing the end of his career, and this would be his Cal Ripken moment (only Cal’s last ASG was in Seattle). Now Nash isn’t even on the team.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Celts Fan says:
@AB, not hating, just think it’s funny. I’m one of the few people on here that actually enjoys watching SA play (that isn’t a Spurs fan anyway.) Nash’s swansong was Mike D. bouncing for NYC. He’s back to “just” a really solid PG that can’t play D.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Celts Fan — He’s back to being what he was in Dallas. Which wasn’t a bad player by any means, still an All-Star type of guy, but not a truly elite player.
Speaking of recent All-Stars, where have Josh Howard and Shawn Marion gone?
January 29th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Celts Fan says:
exactly AB, solid, no D, no ASG.
Howard went to blaze an L and Marion’s probably been hitting South Beach (and some of it’s residents) too much - and I don’t blame him if he is!
January 29th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
vinny says:
@austin. that kid from golden state -morrow should be in the 3pt shooting contest. I think he has the best 3 pt % in the league!
January 29th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Aron Phillips says:
@Austin
J-Ho and Marion might get swapped for one another. Also, no way Mayor KJ makes it to All-Star.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Austin Burton says:
If Morrow is still in the NBA in two weeks, sure, invite him.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
BEdger says:
Allen Iverson is a “PG” who has never averaged 8 assists in a season his entire career, that seems pretty low for a guy who always has the ball in his hands. The thing is, these all star games run on PG play, and I just don’t think AI is the type of PG you want running this team if you are looking for the most entertaining game possible
January 29th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Aron Phillips says:
Delonte/Mo Williams is a close second.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
rlf says:
if he http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08f1GacuXd4&feature=related would of made that comment about another player, it would be all over here and there and everywhere.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
QuEst?? says:
Iverson in the allstar games passes alot, all he does is pass….watch thats all he will do in the allstar game…either that or he will try to win the mvp because ppl are saying that he doesnt deserve to be there.
January 29th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
BEdger says:
BTW, I’m not trying to bash AI, he’s great at what he does, he’s just not the kind of distributor I would prefer in the all star game
January 29th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Austin Burton says:
Didn’t Iverson get like 15 assists when he won All-Star MVP in Denver?
January 29th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Austin Burton says:
Somebody needs to hurry up and tell me what “G” is. I’m starting to get more annoyed than intrigued.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Celts Fan says:
the game’s for the fans, and you guys are right, AI puts on a helluva show, he just isn’t one of the top 5 guards in the EAst this year, that’s all. He’ll probably run shit cuz this is the type of environment (controlled chaos w/ no real system to run) in which he flourishes. There’s no doubt he’s one of the most entertaining, fun-to-watch players of all time.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
control says:
Damn, Rashard did get invited…guess he’s buying dinner for the REAL all stars there. His bloated contract can more than handle that.
No real complaints about the West roster, but the East roster is BS. At least Mo ain’t going, guy def don’t deserve a spot.

Celts Fan
I personally hate watching AI play. The guy’s style of play brings tears to my eyes and the influence he has on idiot kids who want to play exactly like him in pickup games makes playing basketball as bad as it can be. If I want to watch some tiny guy jack ill-advised shots and go get his ass bounced around by big guys…I’ll watch Mexican midget wrasslin.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Quest — I thought it was Eddie Griffin (the comedian) at first, but I could see it being Wayne.
@control — I’m more annoyed by kids who play pickup games trying to be Hot Sauce.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Celts Fan says:
hahaha too funny Control. I went to college and Philly so I saw tons of Sixers games when AI was still The Answer, and not “The guy that should be coming off the bench instead of Rip” and I will always like that guy. He’s not the same player and his style absolutely doesn’t help teams win, but it’s entertaining either way to me anyway
January 29th, 2009 at 10:14 pm

Good for Jameer. Deserved to make it, and a pretty down to earth dude.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
fallinup says:
What the hell. I get home to catch the 4th quarter of what looked like a closer game on the box score. (although Bron was LeBricking!) As soon as I turn on the game Orlando is on a 84-2 run. And Bron just tried to go behind his back and got took by Pietrus.
I can’t wait until tomorrow to hear all of the sweet sweet LeExcuses!

Fuck control. Melo deserves it
January 29th, 2009 at 10:19 pm

And why are the Cavs starters in the game with 5 mins left when they’re getting cracked by 25?
What is Mike Brown trying to prove?

Austin Burton says:
Why is LeBron on the court with Darnell Jackson?
January 29th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Dennis Castro says:
So Darnell can witness the greatness of Lebron’s bricks tonight.
January 29th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
control says:
Is it just me or does LeBron turn into a bad shot jacker for most of these nationwide televised games against the top 3-4 teams in the league? Guy doesn’t play his normal game it seems everytime he’s on TNT, always ends up shooting 33%.
Mel2TDot
I hope the TDot in your name ain’t Toronto…My Raps already have enough one dimensional, no defense, no heart, softies on the team. Melo been injured enough that it’s aight if he doesn’t go. His numbers are good enough to justify it (even though like Vince Carter’s are better). I just don’t like Melo that much for some reason.

Austin you know damn well D-Will is better than TP so quit trying to justify it with flimsy arguments. Deron Williams is the best passer in the NBA. And Deron Williams doesn’t play with a top-10 all-time player.

drewstar says:
the one obvious snub i think everyone can agree on is david west over al jefferson.
ps. i understand how he’s been injured a lot this year, but still.. how has deron williams NEVER been named as an all-star in his career to date?!
January 30th, 2009 at 3:07 am
Austin Burton says:
Parker: 3 All-Stars
Deron: Zero
Parker: 3 championships
Deron: Zero (Finals appearances)
Parker: 1 Finals MVP
Deron: 1 Olympic gold medal
(Although if your argument is that playing on a stacked team doesn’t count, I guess Deron doesn’t get credit for that medal either.)
Look, I love Deron as a player. He’s extremely talented. But he’s not better than Parker right now. He’s just not. Get over it.

This has to be the one time where we see whether if the “WIRED” segment lives up to its full potential.

Phil: “Alright, and Kobe will take the catch here after the pick. Does anyone have any questions?”
Shaq: “I’ve got one. Did Kobe ever tell you how my ass tastes?”
If that happened, it will be NBA’s greatest moment since MJ retired.

Ian says:
austin dont waste yourr time tryin to explain why parker is better the deron lovers have NOTHING but the excuse that parker plays with duncan.
if that shit were true jefferson is better than duncan cuz duncan plays with parker and manu.
people here just want to use different ways to measure a player when they dont like someone that bullshit i guess pippen sucks big time since he played with jordan i guess glen robinson is better.
January 30th, 2009 at 3:59 am
Austin Burton says:
@Ian — I know, I know. Then people start using the “Luc Longley has rings, does that mean he’s better than Patrick Ewing?” logic, which of course doesn’t make any sense.
January 30th, 2009 at 4:46 am
Ian says:
but u know thats only when they dont like a player they start bringing up the crappy role players shit u just mentioned
so i guess is better to put up numbers on a team thats never gonna win while being the best player than to put them up on a winning team that u arent the best player on.
if u switched parker for deron we dont know if the spurs win those 3 rings but the argmuent would be deron isnt better than parker because he plays with duncan even if he has the exact same numbers he did in utah that would be the thinkin of the people here that only have the duncan excuse.
January 30th, 2009 at 7:31 am
Nige says:
Still don’t get why people are having a debate about who has better numbers etc… this is a game solely for the fans entertainment.
Being voted to the Allstar team is NOT like voting for a team/season MVP.
yes all these players are very solid and have great stat lines, but how many are actually fun to watch?!!?!? can anybody remember a play that TP or Dirk has ever done in the ASG?
Dirk will NOT entertain you
AI wIll.
Tony Parker will not.
Durant will.
people tend to forget the most entertaining ASG in the last decade was when Marbury got voted in and him and AI vs Kobe and Kidd put on a show.
especially the 3pt shoot out at the end http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r_Ig9_jLm8&feature=related
as far as all the snubs etc.. I think Durant would have been nice to see running wild with Kobe and CP.
in the East, David Lee instead of Rashard would have been my call.
Dunk contest= I’m pissed Joe Alexander didnt make it. I think he would have brought something to the contest. you don’t get that cocky by being shit. he should have been put in the Rookie game also. D.Rose would of had a field day throw ing oops to him.
January 30th, 2009 at 9:22 am
doc (i like kobe AND bron) says:
Melo got snubbed,Big Al got snubbed, and D-Will got snubbed.D-Will will beat Tony when Tim retires.Until then he wont.Tim is THAT good.At least D-Will will make 2nd team All NBA again after he crushes the league in the 2nd half like last year.

Heckler says:
deron williams is not better than tony parker?
HAHAHA. please tell me you dont believe your own bullshit. if you could have either on your team…..you telling us you’d choose tony parker?
if you (austin) watch enough nba basketball….you would know the true duties of a point guard.
be a leader.
run an offense.
command the respect of your teammates.
be the coach on the floor.
know the strengths weaknesses of your teammates and play to their strengths.
anchor the offense.
point of attack on defense.
make positive decisions with the basketball.
etc…etc…etc…
i’m not sure you believe tony parker does any of those things better than deron williams. if you look at stats…then spare me a response. stats dont lie…but they dont tell the full story. none of the above attributes can be measures in stats.
i like tony parker. i do. he does what he is supposed to do.
but not better than deron williams
by the way…why the hell doesnt tony parker averaged more assists playing with all those scorers and spot up shooters?
January 30th, 2009 at 10:49 am
fallinup says:
haha…lets holler and scream about DWill being better than TP whenever…WHENEVER….Deron finally can make it on an Allstar team.
Otherwise, blustering about your reason why you think that nonsense is futile.
January 30th, 2009 at 11:09 am
MadSammyboy says:
Heckler:
*sigh*… I’m a true-blue Spurs fan… and I LOVE TP… but you’re completely right. Though I think TP is a better scorer than DWill, DWill is the better pure PG, which is what the roster spot is all about… not that I’m complaining about TP making the team.
I WILL say that the Spurs’ offense sort of discourages a routinely high number of assist passes for a backcourt player, and I think TP would average a higher number of dimes if he played elsewhere.
January 30th, 2009 at 11:47 am
Ian says:
heckler lol
u started by sayin if austin watched basketball and at the end asked why parker doest avg more assists lol have u seen the spurs play??? stockton wouldnt avg 10 assists playin in san antonion the f… are u talkin about.
deron is nothing and has done nothing in the nba sure love how about talkin with sense when judging players and using the same criteria like i said if parker isnt that good so isnt pippen mchale worthy west and all those players because they played with someone better than them.
someone said deron will beat parker when duncan retires
1. how about waitin because is not happening now
2. so i guess parker and scrubs is fair agains deron booz mill ak and memo yeah right
the jazz had a team just as good as the spurs in the conference finals and parker lead his team over derons period.
like i said maybe horry is better than pippen alltime because pip couldnt lead portland to a title.
if parker played in a team like derons that hes the number one option for everything thats 25 and 9 easy for him.
January 30th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Heckler says:
ian–
u dont think the ALLTIME assist leader would average 10asts with the Spurs? not the ALLTIME assist leader?
dang. total disrespect.
just know this…some coaches make a system. some players make a system. and the level of certain players, makes their individuals games ‘portable’.
meaning…they can take it anywhere; in any system.
sorry dude…but a passer as good as john stockton, would average assists in ANY system. even for coach pop and the spurs.
kindly correct yourself
January 30th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
johnsacrimoni says:
Ian
“Deron is nothing and has done nothing in the nba”

“Maybe Horry is better than Pippen”

Dude you have no credibility
January 30th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Heckler — So because you think Stockton would average at least 10 assists in SA’s system, your argument is that Parker doesn’t average more assists because he’s either (1) not a good enough passer, or (2) not a willing enough passer. Is that correct?
January 30th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Ian says:
heckler i personally dont think he would what is his career avg look it up. wouldnt that dip a couple of assists and drop below 10 giving the ball to duncan and getting the fuck outta the way??? think about that.
johnsacrimoni
u apparently didnt understand the sarcasm
u need to go all the way up and read all the post so u can understand what i was tryin to say. next time dont post if u dont know what we are talking about here.
“dude you have no credibility” lol says who u?
and yes what has deron done in the nba please tell me?
January 30th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Mrbball says:
you guys comparing individual players are slow.
same goes to you guys who think that if a team is losing they should get an all-star bid. I dont’ work like that from the coaches views. If your team sucks than you suck, I know yall have heard of Al Jefferson being a black hole. He may have great stats but his team is FAIL right now. Plus in addition to the fans voting there are other constraints like positions that have to be taken into account. Having said all that, Quest your slow. I agree you all who said Rashad Lewis or Jameer. Not both You take Lewis then you should have taken Mo Williams. You take Jameer then you should have taken another forward in the east maybe Vince or Tay or D. Lee. I think MO got a legit Snub cause Lebron is too good. I think Al Jefferson & KD are allstars but they didn’t get snubbed due to the records. Carmelo is an allstar but he is hurt plus they got Billups so I don’t see a snub there. Deron Williams same thing. Shaq is playing his best ball in a while so while I can’t argue with him being picked him taking off most back to back games leaves me with a question mark. Calderon deserves consideration but there record aint up to snuff and he was hurt. Parker was hurt for a bit but his numbers are up and the spurs are one of the better teams in the west. Nash deserved consideration but aren’t back to back MVP’s enough.
