The Hottest Player in College Basketball

In this young college season, we’ve seen two guys take center stage so far. Blake Griffin and Steph Curry. But now that everyone has come to the realization that Steph isn’t a point guard and he can’t really shake loose from tall, athletic defenders, his stock has cooled slightly. And though Griffin is still putting up monster numbers, they’re still not the 30-point, 20-board stats that we saw at the beginning of the season.

So that leaves room for someone else to take the national spotlight. Meet Jeff Teague. Read More »

(Almost) Daily Fantasy – 1/12/09

Last night’s MVP is a tie between Ray Allen and Danny Granger. Granger was bananas going for 42 points, 2 threes, 7 boards, 3 dimes, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Ray was just en fuego dropping 36 points including 8 threes. Talk about an end of the week bump to field goal percentage and threes. Here is what you need to know going into week 12.

Paul Pierce – Pierce is questionable for the tonight’s game and with Tony Allen hurt also there could be a whole lot of veal in tonight’s game (that’s Brian Scalabrine by the way). We bet Pierce toughs it out and plays. We’ll update his status later on today. Read More »

NBA Trade Rumor: Mike Conley To The Bucks

The only guy whose name is featured in more trade rumors than Raymond Felton is Mike Conley. Yesterday reports surfaced that the Grizzlies and Bucks have talked about a deal that would send Conley to Milwaukee for Ramon Sessions and Joe Alexander. Read More »

Act Like You’ve Been There Before

Serious question: When is it appropriate to storm the court? And when should you act like you’ve been there before? Classic case last night in Wake Forest‘s victory over North Carolina in Wisntom-Salem – the Tar Heels went into the game ranked No. 3, the Demon Deacons No. 4. Maybe I’m just jaded at this point, but as the Wake student body rushed the floor as time expired I found myself thinking it was a little bush league.

The Pacers Can’t Answer Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford definitely wasn’t one of our favorite picks in the “One Player, One Bucket” conversation, nor should he have been among the likes of LeBron, Kobe, Wade, etc. But he is not the guy you want to leave with an inch of room towards the end of a game. He has zero conscience, and won’t stop himself from letting something loose anywhere inside of 30. Last night, the Pacers looked like they had a potential game-winner from Danny Granger with about fifteen ticks left before JC wet a trey, which would eventually be enough to win it.

Meeting of the Minds

Kobe vs. D-Wade didn’t quite live up to the hype. While the two did literally go head-to-head at one point and drew blood in the process, as far as shootouts go, last night was a full notch below their December matchup when Wade dropped 35 and Kobe’s potential game-tying bucket went halfway in before popping out at the buzzer. Of course Kobe (19 pts, 7 asts) had his deep threes and dunks in this one, and Wade (27 pts, 9 asts) had his usual H-O-R-S-E shots, but Lakers/Heat was about the big men: L.A.’s twin towers dominating and Miami’s lack of a legit post presence being exposed. Pau Gasol put up 14 points and 18 boards, and Andrew Bynum scored 24, including the go-ahead putback with 18 seconds left. All Miami had for a counter was undersized Udonis Haslem, about five minutes of Joel Anthony, Jamaal Magloire in the expired-milk phase of his career, and no traces of Mark Blount, who’s more 7-foot in theory and not so much in practice … Read More »

NBA Trade Rumor: Raymond Felton To The Mavericks

Where isn’t Raymond Felton rumored to go? According to Marc Stein, the Bobcats, Mavericks and Thunder put the pieces in place for a three-team trade late last week, but NBA front-office sources said today that those talks have gone “dormant.”

Sources told ESPN.com that the full deal, as originally constructed, would have sent Raymond Felton, Nazr Mohammed and Sean May from Charlotte to Dallas, landed Earl Watson and Dallas’ DeSagana Diop with the Bobcats and shipped Jerry Stackhouse to the Thunder along with a future second-round pick.

If this deal goes down, who wins in this three-team trade?

(Almost) Daily Fantasy – 1/11/09

I apologize about the couple days absence. I’m back. There a lot of injuries and pick ups to update. Here we go.

Ron Artest – The weird thing is that when he plays, he plays well and looks healthy. It’s actually the same thing for T-Mac. That being said, the Rockets are going to get a bone scan on Artest’s ankle and it looks like he’ll be out at least Tuesday possibly longer. That being he said, you really never know with Artest. It sounds like he has to be benched next week.

Aaron Brooks – He’s scored double digits in three straight including 16 last night, but the minutes still bounce between mid-twenties and the low thirties. 14 team leagues should own him, below that, unless you have a random extra space, you probably have to wait it out until he’s officially the man in H-Town.
