Beware of Joel Przybilla’s Grandma

When Joel Przybilla woke up this morning, I doubt that he was happy to see his name in the paper for this. After scrapping with Tyson Chandler last Friday, Przybilla’s 83-year-old grandmother-in-law, Stella Stawski, has called out David Stern for fining her granddaughter’s husband. Read More »

FYI: David West Is Still In The NBA

Maybe it’s just me, but nobody has been talking about David West this season and I can’t figure out why. His numbers – 20.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists – are on par with last year’s, and his averages – 49.2 FG%, 38.5 3PT% and 89.4 FT% – have all improved. Read More »

NBA Trade Rumor: Josh Howard for Andrea Bargnani

The web site HoopsWorld.com is reporting today that the following trade scenario is being discussed by the Mavericks and Raptors:

The Toronto Raptors have been looking for a small forward, and HOOPSWORLD has learned that they may have finally found their man. A deal being discussed would send troubled forward Josh Howard to the Raptors in a deal that would land Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker in Dallas, with a combination that could involve DeSagana Diop and Antoine Wright headed back to Toronto. Darius Miles Back On The Market

No need for Tonya Harding’s boy Jeff Gillooly to go to Memphis. After the Grizzlies loss last night, they waived Darius Miles before boarding a plane for New Jersey. Now that’s cold. Read More »

(Almost) Daily Fantasy – 1/7/09

Congrats to Kobe and CP for their CO-MVP performances last night. Going head to head, Kobe had 39 points (63.6% from the field), 6 threes, 7 dimes, 4 boards, and 1 block. CP had 32 points, 1 three, 15 assists, 3 boards, and 3 steals. Wow.

Elton Brand – Some encouraging words from Elton Brand. EB thinks he’s two weeks away and is feeling pretty good. Look for the Sixers to be conservative with Brand, but either way, it doesn’t sound like there will be any setbacks.

Monta Ellis – Now this is encouraging. Ellis is ready to practice and sounds like he’s not that far away from being able to return. He might not be fantasy startable until around the All Star game but now is the time to pick up Ellis if he happens to still be a free agent. Read More »

Free Throws Are For Sissies

Add this clip to Shaq‘s great library of work. His new commercial with ESPN’s Stu Scott and Mike Breen where they’re playing Scrabble on the tour bus is pretty good. And even if we haven’t seen the context in which this sketch was done, it still definitely ranks higher than the Diesel’s “Can’t Stop the Reign” video.

West and Brightest

As far as statement games go, they don’t get much more timely or necessary than the Hornets win over the Lakers last night. Having already dropped two games convincingly to L.A. in their own building, N.O. needed to prove they could hang with the Western Conference’s top dog, and on Tuesday they had the two baddest pits in the yard in David West and Chris Paul. While CP carved up the defense with floaters over 7-footers (32 pts) and an almost flawless floor game (15 asts, 0 turnovers), West was just unstoppable, notching 40 points (15 in the fourth quarter) and 11 boards as Phil Jackson threw everyone from Gasol to Josh Powell to the ghost of Samaki Walker at him to no avail … CP had that “We are NOT losing tonight” swag going from the jump, scoring a quick 15 in the first quarter, but Kobe (39 pts) was right there with him to keep the Lakers close. After a third quarter run where Kobe knocked down three triples in 90 seconds with defenders draped all over him, the Lakers were ahead going into the fourth, but Kobe got shut down thereafter. He scored just two points in the final frame, shooting 1-for-6 thanks in part to James Posey, who is still getting booed by L.A. fans whenever he does anything. Read More »

Really!?! With The Boston Celtics

If anyone ever watches Saturday Night Live, then you know what I’m talking about. After watching the Celtics lose to the Lakers on Christmas day, that was understandable. Losing to the Warriors the next night, that was questionable. Even after a blowout victory over the Kings, a loss in Portland was comprehensible. But losing to the Knicks (Really!?!) and the Bobcats (Really!?!) in their last two games, that’s just unfathomable.

I don’t know what’s wrong in Boston, but after winning 19 straight games, I don’t think anyone could have foreseen the Celtics losing five of their last seven, with victories only over the lowly Kings (8-28) and Wizards (7-26). Only the Thunder (5-30) have a worst record than them.

I was vehemently against Boston signing Stephon Marbury, but you know what, that kind of crazy talk might be exactly what the Celtics need.

What would be the Celtics’ panacea?
