Raptors Looking to Deal Jermaine O’Neal

Right now, the Raptors and the Warriors have the distinct honor of being the two teams looking to get rid of a big-time free agent who they signed within the last six months. Bryan Colangelo is reportedly trying to move Jermaine O’Neal, possibly in a package with former No. 1 Andrea Bargnani.

Colangelo is reportedly trying to trade Jermaine O’Neal, having spoken with at least a half dozen teams about the big man.

Breaking News: Warriors Sign Jermareo Davidson

Anyone that thinks NBA GMs don’t read Dimemag.com is crazy. After posting the D-League Hot Hand List this morning, the Golden State Warriors signed Idaho Stampede forward Jermareo Davidson to a 10-day contract.

Clearly Chris Mullin likes this guy, as Davidson was selected by the Warriors with the 36th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, but was traded the same day as part of a deal that sent him and Jason Richardson to the Bobcats in exchange for Brandan Wright. Read More »

Caron Butler Believes Gilbert Will Return

For a minute, Gil‘s most noteworthy public appearance was when he showed up to the Christmas Day game against Cleveland wearing an ascot, so ridiculous that there’s a picture of him standing next to Craig Sager, and he’s the one getting laughed at. But now, there’s a new development in the never-ending drama of whether he’s going to be back before the All-Star break, soon thereafter, or even at all this season, is spreading throughout the locker room. LeBron Explains Crab Dribbles; DeShawn Still Doesn’t Like Him

It’s been a while since we linked to the D.C. Sports Bog, but today we had to because of the in-depth coverage of yesterday’s crazy Cavs/Wizards game that had a little bit of everything – the game came down to the very end, Mike Brown got himself ejected, DeShawn was talking trash from the bench, and there’s controversy brewing over the the walk call assessed to LeBron after his “crab dribble.

The Sports Bog covers it all today: Read More »

8 NBA New Year’s Resolutions

Every week I get this pamphlet in the mail – which usually makes its way from my mailbox to the top of the can without ever being opened. But this week, I decided to crack it on my way up the stairs. Among some other not-so-tight articles about the economy, and how to make a better turkey sandwich, there was something about the Top 8 New Year’s Resolutions that Americans set for themselves.

Turns out, NBA teams and players are a whole lot more like regular Americans than you’d think…

8. Get Organized – Though this works for your scatterbrained sister who needs constant reminding to do even the most simple tasks, it’s pretty good advice for the Warriors right now. Read More »

Q&A with Gerald Wallace

It’s been the same story for almost the entirety of the Charlotte Bobcats’ existence: On paper, they’re supposed to be better than this. With a 12-22 record, the ‘Cats are second-to-last in the Eastern Conference (ahead of Washington) despite a talented and allegedly deep roster featuring Emeka Okafor, Boris Diaw, Raja Bell, Ray Felton and rookie D.J. Augustin.

Gerald Wallace, the best overall player in Charlotte alongside Okafor, has been there since the beginning. Taken in the expansion draft when the Kings left him unprotected, “Crash” has established himself as one of the League’s most versatile forwards and best defenders, and is averaging 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals this season. But so far, his team has racked up more Top-5 draft picks than playoff appearances. Last week I talked to Gerald about the Bobcats’ present and future, his role in the whole thing, and adjusting to Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown

Dime: The biggest story surrounding the Bobcats so far has been the Jason Richardson trade. How has the team played since picking up Boris Diaw and Raja Bell? Gerald Wallace: It’s been a process, and it was pretty much the same when Jason was here. It was a process going through learning new players and new coaches, us trying to adjust to the coaching staff and the coaching staff adjusting to us. Read More »

The D-League Hot Hand List

After former Oregon star Malik Hairston was called up by the Spurs from the Austin Toros last week, it got us thinking: who will be next? Below is a list of the Top 11 (we couldn’t settle on just 10) NBA Development League prospects who deserve to have their cell phone number in the hands of NBA GMs.

1. Courtney Sims, C, Iowa Energy (Michigan) – 22.9 ppg, 12.6 rpg, 2.7 bpg, 59% fg At 6-foot-11, 230 pounds, we’re surprised Courtney Sims isn’t already currently on an NBA roster. Having played briefly for the Pacers during the 2007-08 season and for the Hornets during this preseason, Sims can fill it up on both ends of the floor. In a win on last Sunday, Sims registered 36 points (13-18 from the floor, 10-11 from the line), 16 rebounds and three blocks, only to be topped by a triple-double earlier this season with 22 points (5-10 from the floor, 12-14 from the line), 17 rebounds and 11 blocks.

2. Will Conroy, G, Albuquerque Thunderbirds (Washington) – 24.8 ppg, 7.8 apg, 4.2 rpg, 2.6 spg As the all-time assists leader in Washington Huskies history, you’d think Will Conroy would get a shot to join his former teammates Brandon Roy and Nate Robinson in the League. At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Conroy has the size needed to handle point responsibilities for an NBA squad, and has continued to fill up the box score in all categories in the D-League this season, including a 26 point, 10 assist and five rebound effort on Friday. Is Joakim Noah the Bulls’ Problem?

The Chicago Tribune‘s Rick Morrissey has no problem pointing the finger for the Bulls’ recent slide, in which they’ve barely been competitive in six of their last seven games, losing by an average of 12.1 points per game. And it’s not like there was one 40-point piecing. It’s been consistently ugly. Morrissey’s answer to the issue is that Joakim Noah, Larry Hughes, and Tyrus Thomas have a serious problem with authority. But mainly, it’s Noah’s fault.

This is a fragile time for Del Negro, who came into the job with no coaching experience. If he’s going to be challenged by a player, at least have it be by someone who can play. Read More »
