Watch out, Jermaine O’Neal

From the LSU roots to the surly attitude to the never-ending “But he’s got POTENTIAL!” argument that will keep him employed well beyond his sell-by date, Tyrus Thomas is more of a Stromile Swift clone than Kobe will ever be an MJ clone. Oh, and there are plays like this from last night’s Bulls/Raptors game…

Is it me or someone dunks on JO all the time?

  2. mapletown says:

It aint just you homie. JO seemingly always gets the business end of a poster. Give him credit for taking the challenge I guess…

  3. This Guy says:

Tough one to watch as Raptors fan. How mean would it be if they trade him right after that, and that becomes his last memory of being a Raptor. Later in the game it looked like JO was looking to throw down with TT. Like that was the only way he could revenge.

  4. deeds says:

Jermo is one of the best shot blockers out there. Any good shot blocker gets crowned at least once every so often…it’s what happens when you challenge EVERY single shot (ask Mourning). I give him credit for at least taking the challenge, in only his 2nd game back no less.

  5. deeds says:

@ post #2….i just realized I almost used the exact same line as you lol. cooincidence i swear

  6. JCARR says:

just nastyyyy!!! J.O to the heat -pronto…

  7. karizmatic says:

GOODNESS!!!!!!!!! That was ridiculous. Yeah that will keep Thomas in the league as long as he has ups. So oh till about 32.

  8. yoda says:

so, when j.o. gets dunked on, its ok because he takes challenge, but when noccioni gets dunked on (who is lot shorter then j.o. btw), everyone makes fun of him? and he’s doing same thing that j.o. tries to do.

  9. This Guy says:

^^It’s okay to make fun of J.O. for this, I mean it was pretty funny. But I still have more respect for the ‘Zos and J.O.s who step and try to stop dunks, than all the guys who step out of the way or turtle, simply because they are afraid of being on sportscenter. All of the great defensive bigs have been posterized at one point in time, from TD to Deke, they’ve all had it. And they’ve all been made fun of for it. Noccioni should get respect for stepping up, but made fun of for getting smashed on.

  10. K Dizzle says:

Difference between JO and Noce is that most of the time, JO rejects the dunk, whereas most of the time Noce is gettin crowned

  11. Gunner J. Matthews says:

“Down Goes Frazier, Down Goes Frazier”
    LMAO!!!!!!!!!

  12. Jim says:

On this point, you might remember that Barkley would always go ballistic when the other guys would make fun of Sean Bradley for this, with basically the same argument you guys are making. If a guy is known to stay in and try to block shots, he’s going to 1. block shots, 2. alter a lot of shots, 3. get crammed on a lot.

The fact that old man J.O. challenged his shot may something about how much J.O. makes in his career vs. how much TT makes in his. Zo’s reputation (…and MVP votes, roster spot on a title team, HUGE contracts) was built on challenging shots. Of course he’s going to get dunked on a lot more than Mark Blount. Coaches and owners don’t care about somebody getting dunked on, they care about somebody pussing out and not protecting the rim.

  13. Melo2TDot says:

i respect JO for always attempting to block the dunks… hes succesful in that the majority of the time

  14. Doktrine says:

Wow…He pulled somethin from out of NBA Live on dat one. He jumped from outside the lane…

  15. Rando4 says:

    Dunk of the year…

  16. Kevin says:

I love the respect for JO here. Man deserves respect for challenging dunk attempts.

The video should’ve showed TT’s stuff on Bosh on the other end. In my opinion, that whole sequence was near tops in the league this year.

  17. OptimusPrizime says:

Why hasnt anyone – NBA.com, ESPN, DIME- shown the full clip? What none of you know is right before that Thomas swatted Bosh’s shit and then came down the other end and crammed on JO. If you were watching the game, it was fucking sick

  18. GEE...P.T.I. Pardon the Illness says:

Classic case of not thinking quick enough.

Mind should have said. “Hey that is Tyrus coming. Yea he has crazy hops. He is known for posterizing people. I bet I could block his sh&%. Wait he is coming this way for real, hell naw let me move!”

Apparently his mind stopped at “I bet I could block his Sh&$!”

If it ain’t a game changer, sometimes you just move!

  19. zaki_ffm@hotmail.de says:

we can talk on MSN about it….

  20. Promoman says:

That shit was vicious. At least O’Neal tried to defend, the rest of the Raptors parted like the Red Sea and gave Thomas the lane. Wonder if Bosh will talk about that in public?

  21. TomGfromCanada says:

everyone thats done it his gotten it right back. just look at the end score. but it was nice, one of the best this year.

  22. Kermit The Washington says:

    Oh my God

  23. yoda says:

    @ k dizzle
true, but j.o, is way bigger and heavier then noce. anyway, i respect every player that tries to block dunk, even if he gets dunked. even great mr. rusell, got dunked on ( well, i think) and he is one of greatest shot blockers ever.

  24. doc says:

Chicago fans must be like we were in Philly at the beginning of Iggy career with Tyrus dunks. It was like okay Ai to Ai oop aint that impressive after the 50th time and we still getting our ass kicked.Step your game up.
