Yao Ming Wants Tracy McGrady Out of Houston

Tracy McGrady

You know that this report will be met with some sort of response from Yao Ming denying it, but NBA.com is reporting that the big guy wants the Rockets to trade Tracy McGrady. From the report:

Tracy McGrady has so frequently been out of the lineup that the Rockets are beginning to be fed up with him, and Yao Ming has quietly voiced his displeasure.

“They don’t speak,” an extremely plugged-in person tells David Aldridge. “And Yao wants him out.”

Next summer McGrady will have an expiring, $22.4 million contract that many teams will likely be interested in taking.

Yao and McGrady still like each other personally, but it is an on-the-court matter.

One veteran scout who worked a Rockets’ game recently was shocked by the deterioration in the still-29-year-old McGrady’s game.

“I thought to myself, ‘My God, he’s old,’” the scout said. “It was amazing.”

  4. fallinup says:

Oh no! Not that can of worms, Ian. haha

Good luck getting whatever it is you get back for him in a trade. TMac’s value has to be horrid right now.

I’d be fine with his fat contract walking right off the books.

  5. the cynic says:

i would want Tracy out of the line-up right now too, he looks like he doesn’t even belong in the league right now. He probably shouldn’t have even been playing this year he so out of shape; he’s probably sick and tired of rehabbing all the time

  6. Ian says:

btw theres no way they like each other personally if yao really said that

  7. Dragonyeuw says:

Who’s gonna take him at this stage? It’s really a shame to see what injuries have done to his game, this guy was neck and neck with Kobe 5 years ago. At this point, his cousin Vince will wind up having the better career. At least he knows what the second round of the playoffs looks like….

  8. Ian says:

    fallin
it think its better just lettin the contract expired like u said they arent gettin shit for him ah and just a few years ago they were thinking about tradin kobe for him lol

  9. Ian says:

    dragon
always thought vince was a better player he just didnt care a couple of seasons tmac is or i mean was just overrated

  10. Dime Magazine says:

The whole thing is definitely suspect. One quote says they don’t speak, and then right after that it says they still like each other…

Trade him for Marbury. The salaries shall match.
    It’s a win-win.
    OK, it isn’t.
But it would be pretty funny to watch.

If Phoenix hadn’t gotten J-rich maybe they could of stuck Tracy in the rejuvenation machine they’ve obviously got stashed there. Hell if they can fix Shaq, GHill, Nash’s back and Amare after microfracture then T-Mac redux would be childs play for them?

  16. Jose Calderon is the real JC says:

    @ Scott:

I was thinking the same thing. JO for TMac straight up. Good trade for both squads.

You must be watching something else. T-Mac has never been on the all defensive team, never played any D for that matter and he has zero rings, also, last I checked the experts weren’t comparing him to Jordan and talking about how he is the best player in the L.

Kobe has been compared to Jordan since day 1 and has 3 rings, multiple defensive teams and and MVP to go along with his gold medal.

  18. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

BTW– they could of had Tayshaun Prince and Billups for him in the off season, but that fell thru.

  19. ADAM IVY says:

they asked yao after the rockets and laker game and he denyed it… i dont buy it, he may want him out of the line up until he can help (which makes sense) but he doesnt want him out of town

T MAc’s just a bitch, like his cousin, they have no heart.

JUNK ALMOST MADE ME CHOKE ON MY FRIES!

I can’t stand when as soon as I turn on the puter I see headlines like that lol.

I think it’s like this. Houston (the team and staff) have to know what’s up.

So I trust they know if it is serious enough where they need to do something. I am sure rumblings might be louder cause you are getting points from Wafer.

Still if Tracy can get right by playoffs then all might be well. Still I don’t see him being on the squad after this year. What team will want him currently how he is though.

I am even thinking dude might retire. His love for the game seems to really be fading.

Either way I am a fan of T-Mac but Houston first. I hope dude makes it through and finds the fountain of youth but if he can’t be cool. Kick rocks!

  23. biggeddy says:

    Cobra

You make a great point. If Pheonix can find a way to get T-Mac (R-Jeff for T-mac?) they could potentially make him healthy, like they have with all those other guys. If that happens they could be really dangerous… right up until they get bitch slapped by my Lakers. But at least T-Mac would see what a playoff victory was like.

  24. Ian says:

    drinkthehate

relax u didnt get what dragon meant
but to play this game yes 5 years ago u could talk about both of them in the same sentence. kobe wasnt the best player on his team and tmac would also have 3 rings if he played with that shaq. was tmac better than kobe prob not but he sure was a top 3-6 player like kobe was.

  25. Ian says:

    drink
ok maybe not three but he coulda won also hehehe dont like the what if game so i cant say that i didnt talk out my ass on my last post

  26. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    Ian–
Thats like saying that Anyone with Shaq would of had the chips. Wrong! Remember Penny? Anyways, Shaq was gone 5 years ago and Kobe was and always has been better than T MAC in every aspect of the game, TMAC has no killer instinct, doesn’t want the lime light and has no heart! Don’t get it twisted homie. T Mac could never play any D. So that alone separates them.

  27. Ian says:

    drink
i said that in my second post
penny was awesome but he had young shaq and dave and hakeem were still better than him.
kobe had the best shaq when he was the best center in the leage theres a diff but u did say kobe was better but the gap was small.

  28. GEE...I got Vitaminwater comin out my veins! says:

lol @ T-Mac could never play any D

He actually got on the basketball floor by having to play D, not because of his O.

He has shown in past playoffs, even if he didn’t win the series, that he could put the clamps on past and current good players.

I will say his D now is suspect cause he cant cut and run like he used to. Still to say dude could “never” play D is “interesting”.

  29. Ian says:

i remember him playin d on garnett back in the orlando days and shuttin his ass down

  30. sh!tfaced says:

Trade McGrady to the Suns. They’d have a starting five of injury prone wash-ups with something to prove. Shaq, Amare, Grant Hill, T-Mac and Nash (maybe not Nash – yet).

They can even add Penny to the team for an ex-Orlando Magic has-beens reunion

  31. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

@ Gee– when was he ever on the all defensive team? I do remember his ass getting shut down by Kobe when He was with the Magic, funny how they put Battier on Kobe and not T MAc

  32. tangman says:

jo for tmac might actually work since bargs is finally playing like a number 1 pick

  33. Jau28 says:

    his body is done son

  34. rodnets says:

I think he should turn his game to a shooting first guard like his cousin did it. its not only age I think he lacks motivation…

  35. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

yeah he and jo are also injury prone.

Houston: ” Hey Brain, we’ll trade you our injury prone over paid has been for your injury prone over paid has been.”

TOT: “Yeah, that sounds good”. Let’s do this

  36. Dragonyeuw says:

“You must be watching something else. T-Mac has never been on the all defensive team, never played any D for that matter and he has zero rings, also, last I checked the experts weren’t comparing him to Jordan and talking about how he is the best player in the L”

5 years ago, Tmac and Kobe was the popular debate. No, Tmac was not better, but he was good enough to where it was a legit argument. Tmac was every bit as talented as Kobe, the difference over the years is health, mental toughness, and killer instinct. But 5 years ago, skillwise, very close. In fact tmac was probably the better shooter then.

And don’t bother to use rings, Tmac from back then with Shaq in the early 00′s would have won a few rings too.

  37. sh!tfaced says:

    LOL @ 35

    Make that 29-yr old injury-prone overpaid has-been for your 30-yr old injury-prone overpaid has-been…

  38. GEE...I got Vitaminwater comin out my veins! says:

Drink I can’t persay speak for now, but I would say anytime outside of now T didn’t guard Kobe cause they didn’t want to 1. exhaust him playing so hard on both sides of the floor. 2. Get in any foul trouble cause Kobe is crafty. 3. Shane is the better defender of the two, most everyone knows that.

By your statement are you saying that anyone not making the All Defensive team can’t play D. Knowing that you know more about the game than that I trust you ain’t.

Still even in not making the All D team, he has play D excellent D before on numerous occasions and many occasions that stand out.

Please also remember once he became the go to guy of the team as far as literally carrying dudes, then it became the more offensive than defensive T.

Dude did play D though. I probably haven’t followed all of his career since entering the L. Cause it’s hard to think anyone who has really followed dude, could make a statement like that.

That would be like me saying Kobe ain’t never endorsed no sandwhich spread lol, when he clearly used to endorse Nutella.

  39. the cynic says:

Tmac has never been close to Kobe; black mamba is one of the hardest working players in the league, while Tmac is notoriously lazy, hence the difference in durabilty.

TMac has had amazing games, but frankly i’m going to remember him as the baller who looked the most stoned, on the court at all times

  40. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

Gee– You have a point about him being the more offensive T. I don’t remember him as a defensive stopper, I do remember him being compared to Kobe.

I’ll be honest, I am a HATER hence the name…

But seriously TMAC could have been so much better, just like Shaq could have been so much better, I hate players that have all the talent, but never use it. It could have been Kobe or TMAC, but didn’t want that.

  41. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

And why is it that Shane is the better defender, I mean not like T Mac doesn’t have the athletic ability. Defense is like rebounding it’s all about desire and T Mac does not have the same desire, but gets PAID!!!!!!!

  42. GEE...I got Vitaminwater comin out my veins! says:

I could never put him on Kobe’s level. Kobe is another planet.

T-Mac is clearly on earth or even below ground at this point. Now in his day. T-Mac was ill.

I will say a healthy young T-Mac was 2 to Kobe’s 1 at a very small point of time.

Still that is of no concern to me because Kobe has always been the best.

I was mainly just ssying T has and did play D.

I understand ya frustration with T though and all I can say on that is, just be glad it ain’t Kobe and multiply your frustration times so many numbers with Houston fans.

Man don’t nobody really no how hard it is taking up for a dude who has fallen so hard.

Drink just continue to support Kobe dude and pray he never gets any injuries that bring his shine down, and keep him away from white women in Colorado lol.

  43. GEE...I got Vitaminwater comin out my veins! says:

Oh Shane is the better Defender cause I would say Shane is smarter. He is know for is in game I.Q. and Shane’s main concentration is on D. So he doesn’t have to worry about carrying an offensive load.

If Shane ever had to carry a team with his limited offense I promise his D would drop down too.

But yea Shane is most def. the better all around defender of the two, specially at this point.

  44. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    @ Gee–
I will never know your pain…

But you are correct “Drink just continue to support Kobe dude and pray he never gets any injuries that bring his shine down, and keep him away from white women in Colorado lol.

  45. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    @ Gee–

How about we trade you Space Cadet and a 1st for Shane?

  46. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

I’ve always like Shane’s game, it was tough nails D, I wish more players could play D like that.

  47. Ian says:

artest and bowen are also better than kobe imo

  48. GEE...I got Vitaminwater comin out my veins! says:

True on Shane, but we better keep him lol. We need all the able bodies we can put on the floor. I am out till later! Deuces!

  49. Big Shot BOB says:

What how could Shaq have been better?

  50. Isaiah says:

I bet Dallas would take him. Gerald Green, Dirk, Jason Terry and 2009 and 2011 first round pick for tmac and skip

  51. E$ says:

David Aldridge should know better, that’s not even Yao nature

  52. Gerard says:

lol @ that nutella comment Gee

T-Mac did earn pt with his defense. When he first came to Houston he would routinely take the toughest defensive assignment. I remember when we played the Pacers and he shut down Jermaine O’Neal in his prime. He also locked up Dirk, Kobe, PP, LeBron, and many others back in his heyday.

  53. Isaiah says:

Tmac for shawn marion and parts

  54. Gerard says:

Speaking of Yao, Dikembe does NOT approve:

Don’t count Dikembe Mutombo among those who are applauding Yao Ming’s recent penchant for stepping in front of driving opponents to draw a charge.

“I’m very critical,” Mutombo said. “Those are bull. I told him that. He’s too tall to be taking charges. He needs to learn to play defense without using his chest. You don’t block a shot with you chest. You block it with your hands.

“The man who taught me the game, John Thompson, never said that a 7-footer should take a charge, even in a basketball 1-on-1. There’s no rule or writing in the books that you should take a charge. They teach you how to rebound and block shots. So I’m going to work on that.

“Maybe Yao is listening to Shane (Battier). Maybe he wants to be a guard or something. Man, I’ve got a lot of things to work on. Maybe he’s planning to lead the league charges. So I have to stop him. I have to teach him to lead the league in blocked shots, not charges.

  55. Lee says:

You can’t lead the league in scoring without heart or desire …

  56. Bron42 aka Haters drink my bath water says:

why and how does yao have any right to say he wants tmac out when not only is yao JUST AS FRAGILE, he hasn’t won shit in houston either. Was tmac sayin “trade yao” when his big ass was hurt all last season and they still won 22 games in a row and made the playoffs? Everyone cuts yao slack when he chokes big time himself…single handedly killed stevie franchises career when he was a allstar. Trade him to miami wit wade or to the cavs for wallys contract. hell i agree wit the suns too maybe

  57. jk says:

pretty rich coming from Ming considering he’s played in 57, 48 and 55 (160) total games the last 3 seasons and TMac has played 41, 71 and 66 (178).

Ming is only 1 year younger than TMac and has 5 years less burn than him, but I’d bet my last dollar that TMac will play in more games than Ming until the end of their careers respectively.

  58. Bron42 aka Haters drink my bath water says:

I said it before and I’ll say it again..outside of yao…look at guys tmac has played with his whole career. His most stacked team was prolly his rookie season in toronto with him, carter, camby and stoudimire. His orlando team (that he got to the playoffs, won a scoring title, was compared to kobe AND put like 50 on the lakers that year) had a stunning line up of guys like bo outlaw, pat garrity, andrew declerc, mike miller, etc…name one allstar on that team. then carry that team for about 7 years when he only went there because originally duncan was supposed to go and grant hill was still alive in detroit. then go to houston when yoa was still SUPER SOFT and in experienced and injured, and had no one else again…..dudes body has every right to be shuttin down lol

  59. floRida_evans says:

You KNOW when Mutombo was schooling Yao,Yao had no idea of what he was saying.Yao thought Deke was rapping in Swahili.

  60. added says:

thats BS…that would never come out of Yao…

  61. trips says:

About effin time. If Yao isn’t injury prone he’ll be one of the greatest centers ever. You gotta admit that Houston is better of without Mac. Trade him for a couple of pieces!

You gotta feel sorry for Artest now, forfeiting the option he had, getting traded to a Houston team riddled with chemistry and injury issues. What’s weird is that Artest looks like buddha compared to his teammates.

  62. Michael says:

how tall these guys are!It they want to date only from some searching site,as far as i know __TALLLOVING.c om__cute, hot , talented… whatever u can come up with…LOL

  63. AB_40 says:

chill out, time will tell. I hope this houston team get’s healthy and get’s back on track towards good positioning in the playoffs to make some noise there:D. I can’t see tmac get back to his orlando days but if he can get his body in first year in houston shape in the 2/3 weeks he just took off they’ll be just fine. we’ll see who’s more scary come playoff time the rockets, jazz or blazers. my bet is houston.

no 1 and 2 out west are playing right now. and whichever comentator said in the college game earlyer that the college game is more physical then the nba should really start watchin some basketball. the nba is a man’s leauge nuff said

  64. Bron42 aka Haters drink my bath water says:

trips? houston better without tmac? have they done ANYTHING the times hes gone down?

  65. GEE...What you got against eggs? says:

Tracy will return. When he does it will be doom on all you haters.

You read it here, and may it stay in your mind.

When Tracy comes back this year, he will be a problem.

    Remember they laughed at Noah!

When the flood comes, we will see if it’s your team that’s drowning!

    COMMENCE!

  66. heartbreaker85 says:

tmac’s over rated, he’s a gifted scorer and ball handler, like a lamar odom but with better range. his weakness is defense and clutch ability.

no way is he on kobe’s level, not even before. more like a tall a.i., but then again, a.i. had more heart.

    vince > tmac

  67. ¢ says:

“They don’t speak,” an extremely plugged-in person tells David Aldridge.

    yao cant seak engrish

  68. trips says:

    @Bron42

They haven’t done anything when he’s around either. All they do is suck in the regular season and choke in the playoffs. Forget the fact that Mac scored a lot in a minute, but remember that they can’t get out of the first round despite having the tallest guy in the L with a sweet J.

I won’t be surprised to see Mac in another uniform…Oh wait, he’s always in street clothes anyway, so it doesn’t matter where he ends up next year. I’m guessing Portland or Memphis.

  69. aaron says:

shit…..t-mac is fucking old now…i think he better need to stay at home and watch a movie with kids….shit….TRADE that guy…or Waive it….but so sorry for him that he don’t know what is playoff second-round look like…

  70. Jeremy J says:

They better hope he isn’t finished because without him they STILL won’t be looking at round 2. I know the story, but they need him as much as he needs them. In 4 months we’ll be talking about how crazy it was that TMAC was MIA for the first half of the season. He won’t win the CHIP but hello 2nd round finally.

  71. dukesman2000 says:

Check how many times Yao’s been injured and compared it to Tracey’s; I dont think you’d see a big difference.

  72. Prof. TX says:

IF they trade McGrady, they don’t need another player trying to fill his role. With Artest and Battier around, they already have good players at to fill the 2/3 spots. Yao is a good center, and Scola/Landry make a nice PF combination.

McGrady’s salary could bring in a nice PG. Add in Alston’s numbers (Brooks would be the backup PG) and you could spend alot on that open position.

  73. one66soul says:

LMMAO Yao knows TMAC is BIAAATCH!

  74. balls danglin says:

i want both of them gone because both of them suck ass vapors and i’m sick of watching them!

  75. gmoore says:

Its funny listening to all this T-mac bashing. Especially from people that have never been in a league as demanding as the nba some players are fortunate enough not to suffer injuries and them endure them wht can you say. As stated five years ago Tracy was neck and neck with Kobe and carrying a poor team in Orlando to the playoffs. Leading the league in scoring multiple seasons and giving kobe difficulties in their one on one match ups. Its sad the way injuries have hindered him but what can you say you cant knock what hes done based on the injuries. And he does look bad out there but imagin what hes mentally going through knownin what he used to be able to do compared to what he is limited to as of late.

  76. KinCaid says:

I only have a few points to say:

    1. If T-Mac is healthy, I don’t think there is any one (or even two) player(s) who could make the Rockets a better team than when they have Mcgrady. The Rockets have a very good array of players that compliment each others playing style, given everyone is healthy, The celtics and the lakers will be given a run for their money come playoffs time.

    2. T-Mac is not healthy. As gmoore says, its quite a pity. But for the Rockets to move on, I believe they need to trade Mcgrady and hopefully get their hopes of a championship back. Not to pull T-mac down, I believe he still has what it takes, and I could actually think of a win-win trade situation for T-Mac & the Rockets. I not only suggest, but strongly recommend they trade Mcgrady to New York, that will bring T-Mac’s spirits up (and his desire as well). I believe he should be the center piece for rebuilding that deteriorating team. I also firmly believe New yorkers will love that. And in return, the Rockets should have the ailing Stephon Marbury (so he could also prove himself) and Tim Thomas.

  77. Lamoni says:

T-Mac is very overated, just like Gilbert arena Injury Prone & overated

id like to see him back in the east though, maybe trade him to NY or back to Orlando

or get him back with Vince Carter, but id love to see him in Philly

  78. Anton says:

Hey Tracy, tell me how Chinese taste

  79. JM says:

I remembered T mac making 62 pts back in orlando. That was the T mac I like to see not the injury prone player that’s getting overpaid for sitting in his house watching the rockets game…

  80. bt says:

yao is such a fag!that is tmacs team!whithout tmac they would have not even made the playoffs

  81. Lol says:

Houston should let his contract expire and then they will have the cap space to get another player and t-mac has to just rest out this season and then they will pay him for doing something other than getting injured. That is wat i would do if i was t-mac. He is a good player maybe not a star anymore but he is a solid player and all he needs to do is rest a nd stop getting injured and then he might become a star again:)

  82. lord revan sith says:

Some of you people make me sick because you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about and that includes you dragon. When tmac came the league, playing defense is what got him on the floor in toronto. He was by far there best defender and even set an nba record for block shots in a season for 2 guards.

In Orlando(either directly or indirectly) Tmac was responsible for roughly 95 percent of there offensive output. Scoring, assits, drawing double and triple teams to get some one else an open shot. That magic squad was so pathetic teams would double tmac before he even got the ball because no one else could beat them. I don’t EVER remember kobe playing with a squad that bad. And if he did he certainly didn’t get them to the playoffs like tmac did. Its no wonder his defense slipped a little, he spent every ounce of energy he had offensively to keep his team competetive.

In houston Van Gundy demanded that all his players play D. And thats exactly what he has done. Last year they played philly and Iguadola was destroying both Artest and Battier. Guess who Adelman turned to, a 65 percent healthy Mcgrady who put the clamps on Iggy. ANYONE who says mcgrady can’t play D clearly is saying so with no real basis for such a statement. And between you and me, Kobe’s D is slightly overated and does not even compare to the likes of a CP3 or a D Wade.

Anyone who makes a Jordan/Kobe comparison does not remember the player Jordan was. Honestly I’ve only heard that comaparison made twice. Once from Mark Jackson and now you. If Kobe is on another planet then Jordan was on another solar system.

  83. donnie says:

I find yao being fed up funny nobody ms more games then him. I dont know how many times Houston was rolling and the next day”BOOM” yao done for the year nigga please. look fuck yao and fuck the rockects.
