Every Point of Kobe’s 61
Here’s all of Kobe’s 61-special from last night at MSG. As much as we all love Mike Breen and Clyde Frazier, this should only be watched with Joel Meyers and Stu Lantz – the Lakers broadcast duo – providing the commentary. Luckily, this clip has L.A.’s crew calling the action.
It’s really hard to pick out one shot as the most impressive bucket of the night. But the sky-high fade he hits over Jared Jeffries (3:15 on the clip), the 12-footer he banks in over Danilo Gallinari (4:45 on the clip), and the up-fake-spin that he gives to Wilson Chandler (8:00 on the clip) are downright gorgeous. The last move even had Spike Lee out of his seat, laughing.

Thankfully it ain’t Clyde Frasier commentating. That guy’s annotation of impelling circumstances is very vexatious, incontrovertibly.

Simply Amazing,
If Kobe can keep LA as the number one seed in the west again this year, there is no way he shouldnt win MVP,
That was just chilling to hear the Garden crowd chant MVP!
Awesome stuff, I would have given a lot to have been there last night and seen it in person

I called bullsh*t that he didn’t know that he broke the record. He was going for his 61 all the way. Good try playing it humble Kobe.

Yea, hi! I would like to chime in. BIG FREAKIN’ WHOOP! HE PUT UP 61 AGAINST D’ANTONI’S KNICKS. Micheal Jordan put up 55 against Ewing, Mase, and Oak!!!! BIG DEAL! This is like when he put up 81 against the Raptors. MY GRANDMA COULD PUT UP 81 ON THOSE RAPTORS. Kobe = way over hyped.

Everyone knows MJ has the record at MSG. He has studied MJ so much and doesn’t know his records? Come on. Everyone knows the type of person Kobe is.

61 is impressive regardless of who or when he scores it. 61 in a rec league game is pretty impressive, jacking up some 50 shots in a game where ANYONE is trying to defend ya (though doing a piss poor job) is a feat itself. I dislike Kobe most of the time, but even if ya hate Kobe you can’t bash 61 points in an NBA game.
BTW your grandma couldn’t put up shit.

just another day at the office for kobe.
homey is sick.
lebron gotta wait til next year to be the best player in basketball.
its still kobe.
like him, love him or hate him…..
no one can do it like he can do it right now.
he took over the CROWD (not the game; any player can take over a game). but kobe took over the CROWD.
and he single handedly demoralized the entire knicks team. look at their body language.
nah man. no one can do that like kobe.

Kobe was my MVP when they beat Boston on Christmas day. Stats aside, he makes that team go. Makes the right decisions, and knows when to make his shots…he dominates the game quietly…until he has to make buckets.
Lebron takes over his team. And inturn, dominates the game. Hence the sick stats.
Kobe makes his team better in every aspect of the game. Still awesome stats, but also either by making the right pass, playing the best opposing player, or running the offense.

Idk, I guess it just sucks that it’s on my Knicks. But you’re right, man, Kobe knows what he’s doing. He does this stuff on purpose so he can continue acting like he’s the next MJ.

NY POST:
I understand Mike D’Antoni’s hesitancy to double-team Kobe as long as the score is close, because Kobe is so adroit at finding open Lakers for layups or easy jumpers. However, when the verdict was decided in the fourth quarter, the Knick coach’s attitude should’ve been, “Not on my watch!”
Everything possible should’ve been done to take the ball out of Kobe’s pan-seared hands in order to preserve Bernard King’s Madison Square Garden 60-point record.
At the same time, padding his stats in a meaningless fourth should be beneath Kobe – and Jackson. What if his franchise player severely injured himself while taking out the garbage?

C’mon now. MJ did it 5 games outta retirement against a Knicks squad that went 55–27 for the season. Kobe, while impressive…did it to these craptastic Knicks.

look you can hate kobe all you want, he raped a white chick, he’s a ballhog, he’s a bad teammate in the locker room, but if you are a basketball player or fan, you cannot say anything against his talent. he is the best player in the world right now, and one of the best to ever play the game. if you know anything about basketball, you have to agree. im not talking about his personality or his morals or his ethics, hate those all you want, just keep in mind that is better than you and anyone else you know.

I can’t believe how many hoops fans still don’t appreciate Kobe. I called total BS though that he didn’t know he broke the record. I suppose maybe he didn’t know for sure his exact total, until Jackson pulled him out but I highly doubt that. Either way, that was a fantastic performance.
