LeBron’s 52-Point Triple-Double
Though the crew over at Fanhouse is arguing that LeBron‘s 9th rebound really should have been credited to Ben Wallace, which would have left him short of the triple-double, it was still a flat-out bonkers performance. As LeBron said before the game about Kobe‘s 61-point night, it’s all just about witnessing “greatness.”

Three consecutive LeBron stories?
The picture on the Dime cover points out the real gap between him and MJ (aside from rings). MJ had class, he always seemed alot more dignified. LeBron turns into a clown every time the camera is on him, always putting on some act to look tough. MJ could kill you while smiling a little, never had to scream and flex and pose like that.

I know Im one of the first ones to get carried away and start comparing Bron to Magic – Kobe to Michael – Bron to Michael – Kobe to Bron – etc., yall know how that goes,
Having said that I just really want to appreciate what we are watching right now in the NBA – A bonified stone cold beast in Kobe – maybe the best athlete in sports LeBron – without a doubt one of the best coniditioned dudes in D Howard who is a monster – and just deadly points in CP3, Deron, etc.
I give all those dudes their respect – we are lucky to be watching such an amazing time in the NBA – for now Im going to hold off comparisons and just tip my hat to Bron – that was an outstanding performance,
We are all witness’ to not just LeBron – but the greatness of the NBA

Ill take 61 a Garden record over 52-11-10. Kobe set a record Lebron did what he did last year. Kobe’s performance was more exciting, he took life out of the Knick players, and he had the whole Garden on his side at one point. If you look at just the stats and did not actually see the both games, I dont really think you can understand how Kobe’s performance was the more dominate. Lebron let Al almost 40 piece him. They are both the best in the Game today for different reasons. But I think Kobe is more skilled, and Lebron is more athletic.

Such Hypocrisy, oh he’s too big to try to out do Kobe and he’s not into personal accolades. LeBron was clearly trying to out do Kobe but wouldn’t admit it. Next time just don’t say anything at all because you look like a hyprocrit saying what you said prior to the game and doing what you did. Great performance though, he’s an amazing player but again my friends still not better than Kobe and this just keeps getting supported by players past and present, greats of the league. I have not heard one decent player from the past say LeBron is better than Kobe. This all again was reitterated yesterday while watching NBA TV after the game, that tool Kamla wasn’t there so there was actually some order and the whole crew which consisted of Alonzo Morning, Kenny Smith and yes Eric Snow who played with Lebron stated Kobe is still the best player in the L by a long shot. These are the people I listen to not fans, not sub-par players from the past like Tim Legler or Jon Barry. I’ll add these cats to the list of greats: MJ, Magic, Bird, Clyde Drexler, Isaiah Thomas that also agree Kobe is still the best player by far. It is what it is.

February 5th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
doug says:
karizmatic what do you mean who does what Lebron does? Anyone who plays against the Knicks, best player in the L stop it? Lebron is the 7th person in NBA history to have a tripple double with 50 plus points and he’s the second person to go for 50 twice in the garden. But again karizmatic Kobe is the 1st player to ever go for 61 in the garden the previous record was held by a Knick player, far more impressive, its a 1 of 1 that means there was no others to do it before him and none to come. Kobes was far more impressive, you speak out of hate and did you know Al harrington had 39 points and the Knick almost won last night, the second highest scorer on the cavs had 15 points. The lakers beat them convincingly, Harrington didn’t put up 40 on us and Pau had 30 points and 14 boards and ofcourse Kobe had the 61 points and left the garden to a standing ovation and chants of MVP from everybody in there, your a karizmatic idiot

Lebrons stat line 17-33(51%)from the field 2-7(28%)from 3 point line 16-19(84%)from free-throw line played 44 minutes Kobes stat line 19-31(63%)from the field 3-6(50%)from 3 point range 20-20(100%) from free-throw line and Kobe only played 37 minutes. 7 minutes less than LeBron. Kobe shot higher percentages in every category, scored more and played less minutes than Lebron. I don’t see how anyone can objectively say LeBron had a better game. If Kobe would have played those extra 7 minutes, we might be talking about a 70 point or 80 point game.

This is ridiculous giving a guy an extra rebound so he can have a tripple double, The 52-point, 10 rebound, 10 assist show that LeBron James put on for the fine people of New York on Wednesday was spectacular any way you slice it — even if he really finished one rebound shy of that elusive triple double after all. While the MSG scorekeeper did indeed credit LeBron with 10 rebounds, check out this clip of number nine, which actually was hauled in by Ben Wallace.Wallace clearly got that rebound: he had it controlled with one hand, and when David Lee got a little too close, he flipped it to LeBron. You can even hear Mike Breen say “Wallace — the rebound,” before Clyde Frazier looks at his stat monitor and sees that the scorekeeper gave it to James.

creamio says:
OMG Doug, you are clearly gay for Kobe…maybe you should take the vision of his firm ass dribbling down the court out of your mind and look at things objectivley.
There’s more to the game than scoring, so when comparing the two games lets try to be objective instead of picking out the stats you would only like to see.
Yes Kobe shot a higher percentage, which is very impressive, but last time I checked, 11 assists is more than 3 assists and 10 rebounds is more than 0 rebounds; and 52, 11, 10 10 is indeed more impresive than 62, 3, 0.
If lebron had a one track mind to score like Kobe, it was obvious to anyone that watched the game he could have gotten at least 61, but he slowed his scoring down in order to have an all around game and get his teammates involved (while still scoring almost as much as Kobe).
February 5th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
doug says:
your name is creamio and your calling me gay?aah okay? Lebron could’ve went for 60 ha creamio? Yeah just like he wasn’t going for personal accolades or to out do Kobe at the garden and he goes out and tries to break his record plays 44 minutes pretty much the whole game and took more shots than Kobe, obviously he couldn’t do that creamio he had 33 shots to do that and he couldn’t do you get it creamio? and he didn’t get a tripple double the stat keeper gave him a rebound that belonged to Wallace. Homie you got it confussed LeBron is your man candy and that explains y u think he could’ve broke that record that Kobe owns, nobody else Kobe, you and I are just fans the basketball greats however, seem to echo the sentiments I have that kobe is best ball player in the league(MJ,Magic,Isaiah,Bird,Morning,Drexler)does that make them gay? Grow up man, I call a spaid a spaid nothing to do with bias.

You have to be insane to think Lebron’s game wasn’t better. You know how hard it is to get a triple double. You could probably count on one finger the times it’s happened this season. And where all the Bron doesn’t have a jumper haters now? It looks to me like he was scoring the most of his points from the top of the key in that clip.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
creamio says:
Ask all of those greats right now who is the better player and I can only speculate that some have changed their mind. Those greats said Kobe was the best when Kobe was the best, but now it’s a different story, they are at least equal and Lebron definetly has a higher ceiling and room for improvement, yet he is still more dominating and effective than Kobe. Granted, Kobe is more graceful to watch and obvioulsly is a much better shooter, but Lebron is better overall and mutch better at getting to the basket, finishing at the rim and just plain ol’ beasting.
And yes, he took two more shots than Kobe but played 8 more minutes, which means Kobe was on pace to take more shots. 31 shots divided by 36 minutes = .86 atempts per minute. 33 shots divided by 44 minutes = .75 attempts per minute. So Kobe was actually shooting at a higher rate. Since you refer to me as “Homie” I assume you grew up in an urban environment and probably don’t care much for math.
February 5th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
karizmatic says:
@ Doug_ Clearly you’re not living in reality. Kobe scoring 61 on the Knicks is impressive but c’mon we all know MJ’s 55 against the Knicks was much more impressive, the Knicks play no defense right now. Putting up points against them should be easy for any star. Harrington’s 39 points is a signal that the Cavs have less talent than the Lakers not that Lebron is any better or worse than Kobe, in fact people say Lebron was the one who was able to slow Harrington’s scoring down.
Doug on every poll everywhere people are saying Lebron’s performance was more impressive 52 is not that far from 61. it’s 9 points. That’s it. Now anyone putting up over 50 or 60 points is impressive, but doing it and putting up over 10 rebounds and 10 assts is a whole lot more impressive than dropping 60. It’s interesting to me that you can’t see that looking at it “objectively” as you say, and actually I think my credentials on objectivity are a little deeper than yours are. I’m a Lakers fan saying this. You’re just rooting for Kobe without really looking at it without a bias for the Lakers.
Oh by the way resorting to name calling doesn’t make your argument more impressive, only a true fool would do something like that.

Karismatic you must not have read the article Bron didn’t get a tripple double that tool of a statistician who was obviously a LeBron fan gave him a rebound that belonged to Wallace, how frickn pathetic. @ Doug C’mon, with or wihtout the rebound it’s still more impressive than 62 points. Hell Arenas put up 60 points ON KOBE!!! Does that make him better than Lebron and/or Kobe’s equal? If you opinion is that Kobe’s performance is better you can have that. But your logic makes no sense. You can take 61 points and no rebounds and 3 assts. I’ll take 52, 9 or 10 rebounds, and 11 assts. Thank you.

Nah man it’s just greasier its a classless attempt to try to top Kobes performance and you guys won by 4 points, Harrington had like 40 points, nah all this considering you weren’t trying to out do Kobe. Like I said he’s alright but he’s not real, Just be real and say before the game your trying to out do your idol. Kenny Smith, Snow and Morning were talking about it yesterday from day 1 Lebron has idolized Kobe and went on record as saying I just want to be on Kobe’s level, they made an interesting point eluding to the fact that Kobe or MJ have never admitted to any other player being better than them and that they’ve never acknowledge any other player in the league as better than them that they were alway competing to be the greatest of all-time and never to be just the best in the league, even from day one being rookies.
February 5th, 2009 at 3:27 pm

UncheckedAggression, no embarrasment, your a fan of the game just like me, but the guys who have played the game just happen to unanimously agree Kobe is the best by far, yall got real issues with admitting the truth. Is bron wearing something you sponsor? Yall are in denial, serious.
February 5th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
karizmatic says:
Wow. Kobe neve acknowledged that Jordan was better than him? I don’t think that’s correct Doug. On another note, since Doug clearly lives on planet Kobe and is a happy resident there. I’ll talk about it a different way. The Kobe vs Lebron debate is much like the early Hakeem vs Shaq debate. It is true Kobe possesses more basketball skill than Lebron, his moves are crisper and more studied, just as Hakeem was more skilled in the post than Shaq. If you wanted a textbook example of how to play the perimeter a guy who has all the moves, you would choose to study Kobe (actually you’d choose MJ, but you know for the purposes of this discussion…) or you would choose Hakeem for the post (or maybe Tim Duncan you get my point. Lebron and Shaq have physical attributes that make them much more dominant players though. And in the end this dominance wins out. Lebron will get more rings on his own than Kobe will and by on his own I mean without Shaq, and Shaq got more rings than Hakeem. It’s the dominant player. So if you want to say Kobe is more skilled that’s true, but Lebron is more dominant and that’s about as close as you can really get to resolving the argument. I still think Hakeem is/was better than Shaq, and some people will no doubt continue to believe Kobe is better than Lebron even after Lebron gets his 2-4 rings and sets more records.
