Who’s Better: Caron Butler or Tayshaun Prince?

We argue. You decide…

CARON BUTLER (by Andrew Katz) In many ways, these two guys are perfect to compare. They’re very similar in that they’re both multi-talented threes who do a ton for their respective squads. But at the same time, they’re also polar opposites. There’s a spark inside Caron Butler, which occasionally grows into a raging fire. On the other hand, Tayshaun’s poker face is unparalleled in the League. It’s like he can’t make any facial expressions except for his spin on the doo-doo face.

Because Tayshaun produces without drawing any attention to himself, it’s almost as if people flock to be his voice. Granted, he is a game-changer who will make a big block, sink a clutch jumper and completely shift the momentum of a game. But on a play-after-play basis, Prince doesn’t affect a game nearly as much as Caron Butler does. Read More »

Sean Williams In Trouble… Again

I think it’s pretty safe to say that Sean Williams is both blessed and cursed – blessed with talent, but cursed on and off the court.

Dismissed from the Boston College basketball team during his junior year in 2007, after having been suspended twice in three years, Williams’ troubles with BC continue. On Sunday, Williams was arrested on the BC campus for trespassing, a charge stemming from a disturbing-the-peace warrant and restraining order that date back to May. Read More »

Dwight Howard’s Superman Sneakers

Even though Nate ran away with his second Sprite Slam Dunk trophy with the help of his whole Kyrpto-Nate pefrormance, Dwight Howard still awed the crowd with his Superman antics. The phone booth along with the adidas Tech-Fit tight jersey were a nice touch, but in the end Nate’s presentation was a tad bit better. Read More »

Thunder To Unveil Mascot Tonight

While any big trades are still yet to be seen, the Thunder will have a new member on their roster tonight as they unveil its mascot (a bison) at halftime. And according to The Oklahoman, when the character’s name is announced, it won’t be long before it’s synonymous with Oklahoma City’s NBA team. We just hope he fares better than THIS guy.

“It’s an entity, a living, breathing extension of your brand,” Dave Raymond said. “Your fans grow to know them like a best friend or a family member. Because of that relationship, they associate that brand with your product.” Read More »

Dwight Howard Pranks Tim Duncan

Dwight is the ultimate goofball. He gets Tim Duncan and Chauncey with the good ol’ room service prank, ordering more food than any single person could ever consume.

Chris Bosh to Chicago in Three-Team Deal?

Though the firing of Terry Porter is largely dead-ing all Amar’e trade rumors, the proximity of the trade deadline is keeping hope for a blockbuster deal alive. The question remains – if the offer is good enough, will the Suns pull the trigger now on a deal that involves STAT?

This proposed deal would satisfy their requirement of shipping Stoudemire out East, they would receive an expiring contract, a number of picks, and a young talent.

A new scenario making the rounds has the Bulls taking part in a three-team deal that would bring Toronto Raptors star Chris Bosh to Chicago. Read More »

Born to Run

Monday was a day off for the NBA following All-Star Weekend, but it doesn’t mean teams weren’t making moves. Most notably, the Suns officially canned Terry Porter, a public admission that the half-season experiment at winning a championship the way championship teams play ball was a failure; newly-promoted assistant Alvin Gentry‘s promise to return the team to the D’Antoni style was the least-surprising announcement we’ve heard since Greg Oden got injured again. You kind of have to feel bad for Porter. True, he often seemed lost and in over his head on the bench, but he was under pressure to change this team’s identity overnight without a big roster overhaul, and the players never accepted what he was trying to do. Even if he’d wanted to go back to the fun-and-gun system, he’d already seemed to lose their respect … So this has to mean Amar’e Stoudemire is staying in Phoenix, right? Just like the D’Antoni style doesn’t work quite as well without Shawn Marion, it also isn’t as effective with a monster to finish those pick-and-rolls and who can outrun bigs like Amar’e. Where Should John Salmons Go?

According to the Sacramento Bee, there are as many as five teams interested in John Salmons – the Thunder, Blazers, Knicks, Mavericks among them. None of the options on the table involve real players in exchange for Salmons – it’s all expiring contracts. Sacramento is looking to get rid of $5.1 million Salmons is owed this season, $5.4 million next season with a $5.8 million player option for the season thereafter.

Here’s what the Maloof brothers are looking at: Read More »

Clip Of The Day: I’m On A Boat

Anyone that’s a fan of Saturday Night Live is familiar with The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer & Jorma Taccone), the guys responsible for all the SNL Digital Shorts. After seeing this last Saturday, I went out and bought their CD that dropped on Tuesday, and have probably watched this 50 times. For the unedited version, click HERE.

The Mavs Pass On Baron Davis

What is Mark Cuban doing?

The Mavs recently rejected a deal that would have sent them Baron Davis. Looking to move Davis, who they signed last summer to a free-agent contract in excess of $60 million, the Clippers wanted Jason Kidd in return, but Dallas didn’t want to move their PG whose contract comes off the books in July.

Sure Davis is averaging only 15.5 points per game, the lowest since his second year in the League, but the Clippers are miserable and it’s more than Kidd’s abysmal 8.8. At only 29-years-old, Davis is an upgrade in the long run for the 35-year-old Kidd and can be a solid piece to build around. Read More »
