Carmelo Anthony Needs To Be Aggressive

As the mid-season break is upon us, and Carmelo Anthony is sadly left off the West’s All-Star roster, ‘Melo should take this time to look at the facts and act accordingly. What am I talking about? When ‘Melo gets to the free-throw line 10 times or more in a game, the Nuggets are 12-0.

While you can’t control the refs, as the best small forward in the West, you can control your demeanor on the court and how you play the game. Currently Denver is third in the Western Conference, and with 29 games left (14 against teams with winning records and 15 at home), if they would like to keep homecourt advantage, the writing is on the wall. Fashion Tips From Craig Sager

Let me just say it: Craig Sager is the man. With Charles Barkley still on hiatus, the main reason I keep tuning in to NBA on TNR each Thursday night is to see what my man Sager is rockin’. And although we’re in the midst of an economic depression, Sager’s clothing allowance remains intact.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Sager made a trip to Neiman-Marcus in Phoenix yesterday to wrap the final sartorial details for his Friday, Saturday and top-secret Sunday ensembles.

“I’ve got all sorts of good stuff this weekend,” said Sager, who makes several pilgrimages each year to Houston’s A. Taghi to pick out clothes for marquee events such as the All-Star Game and the playoffs. “And, don’t forget that Saturday is Valentine’s Day.” Read More »

Shawn Marion’s Game-Winning Dunk

Is it me, or was this the first time that you’ve seen Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion go for a celebratory chest bump?

Terry Porter Fired?

Talk about timing. Thanks to a tip this morning from Ben at Ben’s Suns Blog , it looks as though Terry Porter is on the verge of getting canned. Actually, some media outlets are reporting that it’s already happened, but it won’t be officially announced until All-Star Weekend is over and done with.

The early rumors are that Steve Kerr could take over as the Suns’ head coach in the meantime. But odds are, that would make his job of managing an already difficult roster a whole lot tougher. Read More »

Welcome to All-Star

As of 11 a.m. MST on Thursday, the Dime crew was all on the ground, checked in and ready to go in Phoenix for All-Star Weekend ’09. Early sightings at PHX’s Sky Harbor Airport: Scottie Pippen, reigning D-League dunk champ Brent Petway, Keyon Dooling, Keyon Dooling’s entire extended family, Ed Lover, and about 85 dudes stunting like they own a major record label when they’re nothing more than MySpace musicians. Not much going on event-wise for this first day of the NBA’s greatest weekend, but Friday is chocked full of stuff that we’ll keep you updated on throughout the day … Before heading to an EA Sports party last night, we did catch the latter part of Heat/Bulls, one of the three games on Thursday’s NBA schedule. It’s funny how Erik Spoelstra gets so much credit for no-brainer coaching moves like giving Dwyane Wade the ball at the end of the game and letting him dictate the offense, like it takes a brilliant basketball mind to do that. Wade put up 24 points and seven assists in his hometown, the most important dime coming when he hit Shawn Marion cutting to the bucket for a dunk on Thabo Sefalosha with 1.1 seconds left that proved to be the game-winner. The Biggest All-Star Weekend Storylines

With All-Star weekend less than 24 hours from being officially underway, here are some things that we’ll be keeping our eyes on on the ground in Phoenix.

* Amare‘s reception among the fans in PHX* Right now there’s no question that Amare is the biggest name in the League who has the best chance of being moved before the Feb. 19 deadline. So how are the fans going to react? Are they going to stick by him until he’s dealt, or will they rip into him for his sour attitude as of late?

* Shaq and Kobe are teammates for the first time since playing together in L.A.* Read More »
