Great Moments in Double Dribble History

One of our boys sent this over – who out there is old enough to remember Double Dribble on NES?

(Almost) Daily Fantasy – 2-10-09

Kind of a down night in terms of big stats. In fact, the Grizzlies and the Bucks were really the two main stat producing squads last night. That’s somewhat strange. I can’t believe I’m saying this but props to Charlie Villanueva for the MVP of the night. Chuck V. had 25 points, 5 threes, 8 boards, 4 dimes, and 2 steals. As always, leave any questions or concerns in the comments box.

Ramon Sessions – Raise your hand if you’ve owned Sessions at one point this season and cut him? Stop kicking yourself. You did what you had to do and it made sense at the time. Sessions though is doing exactly what everyone expected of him in the pre-draft hype. Coming off his best game of his career, Sessions responded with 26 points, 7 dimes, 4 boards and 4 steals. He’s gong to be a whole lot of fun the rest of the way. Read More »

The Rockets Are a Complete Mess

When Richard Jefferson, Ramon Sessions and Charlie V combine for 76 points, there’s a problem with your team’s defense.

“We don’t try to play ‘D’,” Rafer Alston said. “That’s just the bottom line. It’s coming to the point we’re not even trying. Then we have the audacity on offense to race the ball up the court. The mind-boggling thing is how do you race around on offense and walk around on defense. To me, that’s not even trying. It’s embarrassing.

But Rafer isn’t the only one who is calling out his squad. Read More »

20 and 10 Is A Big Loss

When I was watching SportsCenter last night talking about Al Jefferson‘s unfortunate injury, I came across an amazing fact. With Big Al out for the season, that leaves only three players in the entire League averaging 20 and 10.

Perhaps it’s just me, but that seems crazy. Dwight Howard (20.6 and 14.1), Zach Randolph (22.0 and 10.5) and Tim Duncan (20.7 and 10.5) are the only ones left in the NBA that get their buckets and boards each night. So I decided to look at the past five season, and it turns out that 20 and 10 is a lot more rare than I thought. Read More »

A Bobcats Prediction

An unnamed member of the extended Dime family made a prediction that is still written on the walls of our office.

“The Bobcats will go 41-41 this year.”

At the time, I was among the many who cackled like Dave Chappelle at him, stomping and throwing things in the air. And I wasn’t alone. The last time we saw him, Larry Brown had come into New York on a white horse as the anointed savior, and then left the team worse than when he arrived. So wouldn’t he just quit on the Bobcats once he realized that they didn’t have what it takes? Read More »

This hurts me as a T-Mac fan

Serves me right for talking sh*t so definitively last week. From Monday’s Rockets/Bucks game…

Reese’s Piecing

For the sake of Elton Brand‘s sanity, hopefully he wasn’t watching last night’s Sixers/Suns game. Just hours after EB went under the knife for season-ending shoulder surgery, he would have seen a squad that did nothing to quell the “Philly is better without Brand anyway” talk that’s been hovering for a minute now. Even against the Shaq and Amare All-Star combo, the Sixers didn’t look like a team missing its only proven low-post threat: partially because they were able to outrun, out-athlete and simply out-hustle the Suns in a blowout W, and partially because Marreese Speights came through like a young Antonio McDyess (while looking like a cross between young Michael Strahan and young Mike Tyson in the face). Speights was dunking all over everybody in purple, catching what seemed like about four or five alley-oops and throwing in some left-hand hooks and mid-range J’s for good measure. At some point midway through Speights’ one-man highlight reel, the Sixers announcers were practically laughing at the Suns for bypassing Speights (24 pts, 7 rebs) in the draft for Robin LopezRead More »

2009 Shooting Stars

This year’s field for the perpetual undercard of All-Star Saturday Night:

* San Antonio: Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Becky Hammon (defending champs) * Detroit: Arron Afflalo, Bill Laimbeer, Katie Smith * Los Angeles: Derek Fisher, Michael Cooper, Lisa Leslie * Phoenix: Leandro Barbosa, Dan Majerle, Tangela Smith

I won’t bother going over the rules, ’cause I’m sure you’ve seen it before. Just know that the NBA press release for the event had to include a “Why You Should Watch” section, which I didn’t see when the dunk contest field was unveiled.

Who do you got (assuming you even care)?

Rick Adelman Worried About Rockets’ Locker Room

The Rockets’ recent 4-4 run, which includes losses to Indiana, New York, Philadelphia and Memphis, has apparently given Rick Adelman something real to worry about.

“I see things,” Adelman said. “I’ve been doing this a long time. There’s not too much that slides past me: body language, comments, whatever. Once you’ve seen it over and over and over again, you get a pretty good sense right off the bat. That’s why it’s important as coaches we keep trying to talk to them about it. I think it’s important as a team that individually they talk to each other about it. Read More »
