Over on BallersNetwork.com, Candice Wiggins shared her basketball story from growing up in San Diego, to her career at Stanford, and the 24 hours from Final Four to Draft to Minnesota. As one of only seven people to have been a four-time All-American in NCAA history, Wiggins is one of the most accomplished basketball players out there. Read More »

With the playoffs around the corner and injuries setting in, it’s time for teams to take a hard look at their roster and truly evaluate their title chances. Every GM is looking for that X-factor – whether it be a veteran or a journeyman – to fill a void and contribute off the bench.
But after last Thursday’s trade deadline, none of the pretenders turned into contenders, and none of the contenders got any better. For better or worse, it’s still the Celtics, Lakers, Cavs and everyone else. It’s no wonder then why all eyes are fixated on the future of Stephon Marbury, Joe Smith and Sam Cassell, as it seems teams are grasping at straws to gain an edge.

We’re going Co-MVP last night with Nate Robinson and Devin Harris taking the joint crowns. The Nate thing is out of control. NOBODY thought he’d have value like this. The funny thing is that he’ll be a very hard player to know where to draft next season. Ideally, he resigns with the Knicks and that should at least offer some draft security, but owners should enjoy this run while it lasts. 41 points is one thing, but Nate constantly is helping in other categories (including rebounds which is crazy). Devin Harris not only hit the craziest buzzer beater of the year but dominated for most of the game. He finished with 39 points including 5 threes and 8 assists. It’s amazing how many guards not named Rajon Rondo have added threes to their fantasy repertoire this season. Here are some quick hits from around the fantasy wire.
Baron Davis – A BARON DAVIS SIGHTING. THE REAL BARON DAVIS. That’s right, the real Baron showed up last night and his thing that he can do but doesn’t do nearly often enough – he dominated. Baron went for 25 points, 10 dimes, 9 boards, and 4 steals. Who knows what you can expect from Diddy the rest of the way. With your trade deadline probably approaching, if Baron has another strong game or two you might want to trade high. Read More »

If Mike Dunleavy hadn’t played in just 18 games this season, where do you think the Pacers could be? Would their “Little Three” of Dunleavy, Troy Murphy and Danny Granger be enough to hold down that eight-seed instead of Milwaukee, Chicago, New Jersey or even New York?
We’ll never know this time around, as it looks like Mike Dunleavy will spend the rest of his season on the bench.

You know the history. Separated by only eight miles, Duke and North Carolina have been going at it on the hardwood since 1920. In college basketball’s fiercest rivalry, there is more to these two teams than meets the eye. Where one is a small, private school, the other is a large, public school representing the people of the state of North Carolina (and displaying their name proudly on their chest.
Last night, HBO took you further with “Battle for Tobacco Road: Duke vs. Carolina,” a one-hour documentary that featured amazing archival footage and a high-profile list of interviewees from both the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels. Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Art Heyman, Larry Brown, James Worthy, Charlie Scott, Grant Hill, Johnny Dawkins, Christian Laettner, Kenny Smith, Eric Montross, Jay Bilas and Michael Jordan were just a few of the people weighing in on the rivalry, and taking you back to their time on campus.

Right now, Nate Robinson is owned by less than 29% of fantasy basketball players who host their leagues on ESPN.com. I’m no fantasy guru, but I have to imagine that the reason that number isn’t closer to 50% (or beyond) is because Nate doesn’t start for the Knicks. His numbers are pretty strong – 17.1 ppg, 45% FG, 81.7% FT, 1.8 3PG, 4.2 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.5 spg and only 1.7 turns per game.
From a fantasy perspective, what’s the difference between Nate and Eric Gordon? EG’s tallying 15.3 ppg, 44.7% FG, 86.6% FT, 1.6 3PG, 2.5 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.0 spg, 2.0 turns per game. But he’s owned by more than 70% of players on ESPN. So what gives?

Before Knicks/Pacers suddenly became entertaining in the fourth quarter, Mike Breen deserved some kind of award for doing his best to shine what was a piece-of-crap game. Throwing out lines like, “This is a game where you can pad your rebounding stats,” “Hibbert‘s been a bit awkward on his post moves,” and “Neither team is playing particularly well,” Breen tried to keep the viewers interested; after Jeff Foster air-balled a 20-footer by two feet and a hush fell over the MSG crowd, Breen gave Foster the old “He really tries hard” consolation call. Now contrast that to what one of Dime’s in-house Knicks fanatics, Christian Grant-Fields, sent out at halftime: “I’d rather watch a team of legless men play a squad of armless men.” … But those who stuck around stumbled into a nice little shootout between Nate Robinson (41 pts), Jarrett Jack (33 pts) and Marquis Daniels (28 pts). With 26 seconds left and the score tied, Nate picked off Foster’s inbounds pass intended for Jack and skated in for the go-ahead layup. After Troy Murphy (19 pts, 21 rebs) traveled on the next possession — New York’s defensive strategy of “Leave him open at the free throw line” worked to perfection in that it startled Murphy enough to force a walk — Nate hit a pair of free throws to seal the win … Read More »

Six games on the NBA schedule tonight. Let us know what you’re watching in the comments section, and like they say on the NYC subways: If you see something, say something…
Celtics @ Nuggets — Paul Pierce said it after Sunday’s Boston/Phoenix game: As Rajon Rondo goes, so goes the Celtics. And once upon a time, Rondo wasn’t going anywhere when he saw Chauncey Billups lined up in front of him. Billups owned Rondo in those Pistons/Celtics matchups, and in their only meeting this year, Rondo was held to two points (1-8 FG) as the Nuggets won on Boston’s home court.
Hawks @ Jazz — Carlos Boozer is back, putting Paul Millsap back in the position of being the League’s best reserve power forward. Read More »
