70 Minutes of Greatness

This morning on New York sports radio, they were debating whether or not last night’s UConn/Syracuse epic 6-OT game was the greatest sporting event ever held at Madison Square Garden. If you fell asleep, or missed it for other reasons (more on that later) this highlights are below.

We want to know how our readers experienced the game - Were you there? Did you stay up for it at home? Where did you watch it? Who did you watch it with? Let us know in the comments section…

Watched it on my couch - it was a great game.

Best ever at MSG? maybe. it was sure worth watching. too bad I’m a UConn fan though.

  2. bliz289 says:

turned the game on at about 11:15pm, saw it was close with a few minutes left in reg…next thing i know it’s 2 hours later! one of the best games i’ve ever seen!

  3. bliz289 says:

Pat, how did you watch the game?

  4. Doogie says:

Watched it at a sports bar in Philly - they locked the doors so that no one else could come in it was so packed. I was rooting for injuries so that ‘Nova will romp later on.

  5. Steve A says:

It was a great game that I called some of my friends to turn on. Best ever? Nahh. High drama, but there was never any shots at the buzzer to send it to another OT or anything like that. Still unreal.

  6. Patrick Cassidy says:

Funny you should ask bliz - I actually didn’t see one second of it. My mother-in-law is in town and goes to bed crazy early. She kicked me out of the living room so that she could go to sleep. Our four-month old’s crib is in our bedroom with the other TV and was sound asleep too so that was a no-go. I just laid there in the dark thinking that I was missing a great night of college ball … I had no idea how great though until I woke up this morning to 47 new emails and IMs that went back and forth last night during the game. So yeah, that was how I watched. Good times.

I was watching the game at my girl’s house. She is a ‘Cuse graduate and I am the biggest Orange fan this side of the Mississippi.

After Devendorf hit that three (which I thought was out of his hands in time)I literally spilled a bottle of Ginger Ale on my girl’s couch. I definitely was geeked for overtime. I mean…Kemba Walker’s put back layup, AJ Price keeping UConn in it, Paul Harris’ 29 and 22!

Definitely one of the greatest sporting showcases ever. Regardless of any sport.

  8. Aron Phillips says:

Wow! That’s all I have to say. I, being a UConn fan, watched the game with my buddy who went to Syracuse so there was CRAZY smalk talking before the tip.

After another amazing day of hoops (go Baylor!) and seeing Kansas, Oklahoma and Pitt fall before them, UConn knew that with G-Mac in the house, you knew no lead was safe.

    Couple things:

    1. Andy Rautins is J.J. Redick’s cousin. That’s all I have to say.

    2. Jim Boeheim clowning on Paul Harris and the 15 MISSES he had (8-23 from the floor) in the post-game press conference was classic.

    3. Stanley Robinson probably dunked on every member of the Syracuse team, including Jim Boeheim.

    4. Although I HATE Eric Devendorf, the kid can play.

    5. I kept cheering for more overtimes like that Buffalo Wild Wings commercial.

All in all, the game was AMAZING, and without a doubt one of the best games I ever saw at the Garden. With Kobe’s 61 earlier this year, MSG is living up to the hype.

P.S. I just got a text from my Mom and I asked her if she stayed up for the game. She replied: “Six overtimes are too much for me.”

  9. Andrew Katz says:

Unreealll! I was in NYC and you could hear ‘Cuse fans in the street till 3 am!

  10. JB says:

Growing up in Connecticut means 3 things:

    1. UCONN men’s basketball is God.
    2. UCONN women’s basketball is for old people and little kids. Little kids that are forced to watch it by old people.
    3. We hate New Jersey.

So given the time of year, emotions are running high and old people are keeling over left and right in the Constitution State. I myself was at home with some other fellow CT transplants riding the emotional roller coaster that WAS the best sporting event I’ve ever seen. As painful as it was, and as much as I’d like to see Devendorf shinning my shoes at Grand Central Station, I can’t help but give those Cuse SOB’s credit for willing the ish out of that game. Of course I won’t be watching any basketball until next thursday and drinking my own tears for the next 3 days, but it was worth every agonizing minute.

    Jerome Dyson, I miss you.

  11. Matty D says:

Biggest Orange fan this side of the Mississippi?!?!? Come on CGF…I thought we were in this together!!!

Truly one of the greatest games I’ve ever watched in my life. There is no emotion for the way I felt last night watching that game. I was literally jumping around my house and pumping my fists like a 6 yr. old on Christmas! I was getting the “You’re a complete maniac. Why am I with you?” looks from my girl.

I can only remember a handful of times (The ‘03 National Championship Game, Endy Chavez’s catch in Game 7 the ‘07 NLCS, Plaxico’s TD Catch in the ‘08 Super Bowl) where I’ve acted the way I did last night while watching a sporting event.

Holy S*@t!!! What an incredible game. I haven’t stopped thinking about it/talking about it all day. I texted/emailed every UConn fan I know, just to remind them how much i hate them! I absolutely love this time of year and its only getting started.

Cuse Is In The House, Oh My God, Oh My God…Cuse Is In The House, Oh My God!!!

  12. JCARR says:

Wow!!! Being a Seton Hall alumni all i wanted was for the Cuse to come out a loser and often found myself cheering for UConn.

I watched the game at my house, but first I kicked my girl out of the living room and instead invited a couple of bottles of Corona to watch the game with me… Definetly one of the best games at MSG, both teams using practically all their players and hoping to come out on top.

Cuse wont last long in tonights game…

The game is airing on ESPN Classic for anyone who missed it (Pat)…

  13. shake&bake says:

I went to drink at my friend’s house after our game and saw it was still on. It was a crazy game the only problem was that there were more misses to end the overtimes than makes. The games weren’t getting tied up at the buzzer, they were staying tied.

  14. goonther says:

    cgf-

def a bigger Cuse fan than you bro…. i’ve trenched through 5 feet of snow to go to a game before uphill both ways (no seriously it was uphill both ways)

thats one of the best cuse games i remember. although gmac beating everyone with 3’s in the ‘06 tourney might take the cake, i remember the OT GAME against uconn that year… they took down 4 teams in 4 days & 3 were uconn, georgetown and pitt.

woulda given a nut up to go see that game live at MSG fo sho

ho shit matty d - i havent heard taht song in a minute - that was back in the etan/ john wallace days…. oh the memories

  15. clevelandboi says:

i hope i can find a download of it, cuz i gotta watch that game again

  16. vinny says:

those last 3 overtimes were brutal-they we’re all so tired-and paul harris-wtf. that game should have been over in the third ot if he could make a damm layup!
Makes you realize what an impact thabeet has on the game-because when he fouled out the game completely changed for syracuse. greatest ever??? wasnt played well enough to be called that.

  17. SayItAintSo says:

I didn’t get to see any of it…and I’m on the west coast too!

I finally have leverage to get rid of my girlfriends no phone use during sex rule.

  18. schoops says:

I had to follow most of the game stuck at work. Thank god for espn gamecast. I’ve never been more excited to see words appear on a screen. I was able to catch the last 5 minutes of regulation in my work’s lobby, then raced home during the first OT while listening on AM radio.

Started pounding beers in celebration of each OT… Caught OT periods 2-6 at home in HD.

    What an awesome game.

  19. Andy says:

    at a bar in hoboken…

70 reasons why the big east tournament is hands down the best conference in the nation.

  20. Denise says:

I had to watch the game on an online live stream.. it dragged a little, but it was STILL GREAT! but what an upset..

  21. Maynard says:

I watched with a few Syracuse fans on my big-screen, great game but everyone was definitely tense.

Best basketball game I’ve seen this year, though the Super Bowl was better than this, IMO. And as for best game in MSG history, not a chance, considering all the great Knicks games there. Off the top of my head, the Willis Reed/Frazier game in the 1970 Finals, the Jordan 55-point game and the Starks dunk are all better than this one. You could make a case for the LJ four-point play as well.

  22. doc says:

Great game but nowhere near the best ever.Media always hypes up yesterday.Thats what the gig calls for or nobody will get paid. There was no highlight finish.Just a bunch of dudes choking in the last seconds of every period until enough people fouled out where one team could take advantage.

  23. doc says:

Seriously, unless Syracuse win the Big East tourney who would sit and watch this game in 5 years?Everytime Duke and UK 92 game come on I try to catch it.I would rather watch Kansas Memphis from last year.

  24. Aron Phillips says:

    @JB

I wouldn’t even let Devendorf shine my shoes at Grand Central Station.

  25. MBE18 says:

One of the best sporting events I have ever witnessed!!!!!

  26. jonny taise says:

is there any way i can download this game somewhere/somehow??!!!!
