Barack Obama’s NCAA bracket: North Carolina all the way

President Barack Obama

While the rest of us have the luxury of filling out an NCAA Tournament bracket in relative peace — only having it picked apart game-by-game if somebody in your office pool is really bored — President of the United States Barack Obama (I still like typing that out in full) gets no such treatment. Nike Air Force 1 “Huarache” Hybrid

nike-air-force-1-huarache-hybrid

In the scheme of Air Force 1 Hybrid’s, these retain more of the AF1 than usual. Different from the AF1/Jordan Fusions, which are a true combination of both shoes, these Air Force 1/Huarache hybrids are dominated by the Force’s. If it weren’t for our boy Rich Lopez over at KixandtheCity, we would’ve thought that the only contribution from the Huarache is the tag on the tongue. Read More »

Pau Gasol (kind of) wants the ball more. If it’s not too much trouble

Pau Gasol

On the rare occasion that Kobe Bryant has an off night, you’d expect L.A.’s other All-Star, Pau Gasol, to step up and take advantage of the extra opportunities that would naturally come his way.

But that’s only if he’s actually getting extra opportunities. After last night’s loss to the Sixers, where Kobe only had 11 points while Gasol went for 25 on 9-for-12 shooting from the field and 7-for-9 at the line, Gasol made a little noise to the local media that he’d appreciate more chances to score. March Madness Players 2 Watch: Tyreke Evans

evans_24_04

Tyreke Evans took a ton of flack for Memphis’ shaky 6-3 start to the season. Granted, the 6-5 guard looked like a homeless man’s Jack McClinton in his first nine games, taking ill-advised shots without having any proven record of success early on. But in the 25 subsequent contests, ‘Reke has reigned in his shot selection since John Calipari moved him from shooting guard to the point. And since that point, the Tigers haven’t lost. Thus ‘Reke has gone from the scapegoat to the reason for Memphis’ run. Read More »

I can fix the NCAA play-in problem

Chief Kickingstallionsims got a raw deal

First of all, congratulations Morehead State! Yesterday you were a fantasyland in the dreams of every man, and today you’re in the NCAA Tournament. But here’s the kicker — you won your conference tournament, and yet you still had to play another game to actually get into the Big Dance. Read More »

Scott Skiles Takes Twitter Too Seriously

charlie-villanueva

Poopy-pants Scott Skiles is raining on Charlie Villanueva‘s twitter parade. After Charlie told the world that he needed to step up during the half of the Bucks/Celts game, he rattled off 15 second-half point to help upset Boston. But Coach Skiles isn’t interested in hearing what Charlie V has to say during the intermission, even if it helped to set up one of Milwaukee’s biggest wins of the year. Read More »

LeBron Is a Photographer

There’s no better pre-game routine than this one. Not sure when it started, but LeBron and Co. stage a photo shoot after a series of baseball dugout-esque handshakes. This one’s from a couple nights ago, but we’re still in search of last night’s when one of Cleveland’s bigs (Darnell Jackson?) picks up Delonte West and holds him in his arms as LBJ snaps another shot.

March Madness best matchups: Darren Collison vs. Eric Maynor

VCU's Eric Maynor

Whether it’s Dick Vitale‘s hoarse screaming or Bruiser Flint reading it off some intern’s notes, every college basketball analyst will tell you that backcourt play is beyond critical in the Tournament; especially point guard play. Like I said in picking Louisville senior PG Andre McGee (and backup Edgar Sosa) to lead the Cardinals to a national ‘chip, each of this decade’s title-winning teams had, without exception, good to great point guards. Andre Iguodala’s Game-Winner Vs. LA

Granted, Andre Iguodala‘s game-winner against the Lakers was a great shot. But is that really the shot the Sixers should be taking down two with less than five seconds? Iguodala was 0-6 from beyond the arc up to that point, and it wasn’t as though he needed to pull right away because of the clock. He had enough time and enough space to attack the rim. But sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than smart.
