NBA Jam ’09 tournament (1st round)

Kobe Bryant

During yesterday’s Lakers/Mavs game, Jeff Van Gundy called Pau Gasol the “best second-best player” in the League. While we’d have to give that crown to whoever is considered the second-best guy on the Celtics (Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett), Van Gundy’s statement (and our general obsession with brackets this week) got us thinking: If the NBA put on a halfcourt 2-on-2, real-life NBA Jam tournament, how would it turn out? My Name is Matty D and I’m an Addict

Johnny Flynn

I love college basketball. March Madness is the greatest time of year and there is nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise. Take a look at what this past week brought us – the epic 6-OT game between Syracuse and UCONN, early-round exits by Top-10 teams, last-second and buzzer-beating shots by Villanova, North Dakota State and Eric Devendorf. (That’s right, I said it. Keep reading.) But most importantly, this week will go down in history as the week that brought us Patrick Chewing. “What’s up Ryan? AHHHHH!!!Read More »

Charlie V Twitters During Halftime

Charlie Villanueva

When your sub-.500 squad is knotted 41-41 at the half against the defending world champs, what would you do during the halftime intermission? Listen to a quick halftime speech, stay loose, and get some shots up before the final 24 minutes begin? If you’re Charlie Villanueva, that’s not your style. Read More »

(Almost) Daily Fantasy – 3/16/09

devin-harris

In our League, week 21 (now) begins the playoffs. Whether the playoffs have begun or you’re just in the middle of the stretch, make sure you don’t get a guy in the lineup who is only playing twice this week when there’s someone with four games on the bench. Toronto, Utah, Miami, New Orleans, Milwaukee, and Phoenix play twice, while Charlotte, Portland, Memphis, Boston and Washington all play four times. Here are two key factors in finishing the job that started 21 weeks ago: Read More »

These Guys Are Animals

A while back Andrew put me on to this Youtube clip of this workout clique called The Bartendaz. The stuff they do is out of control. Listen to the leader G.I.A.N.T.; “Stop talkin’ ’cause you got lips!!!!”

Make This Stop

In Smack today we asked the following: “At the beginning of the Selection Show, did you see those two guys in the committee room completely botch their ‘dap’ exchange?” If you didn’t catch it, here you go:

Isiah Thomas is back

New York Knicks

Not that he ever really went anywhere. When Isiah was relieved of his coaching and front-office duties last year, the Knicks insisted he was still being kept around in some kind of never-defined “consulting and advising” role, although that was later followed by reports that Zeke had been told to stay away from the players and from Madison Square Garden in general. March Madness best matchups: Arizona vs. Pressure

Jordan Hill (Arizona)

Of all the scenes that Al Pacino steals/owns in The Devil’s Advocate, one of my favorites is the rooftop job interview with Keanu Reeves:

Pacino: “I know you’ve got talent. I knew that before you got here. It’s just the other thing I wonder about.” Read More »

The Raptors Wore Celtics Jerseys Last Night

Shawn Marion

Here’s Danny Granger‘s thought process during this fast break last night: “Is that a bird? Is that a plane? Is that a member of the Boston Celtics? No, it’s Shawn Marion!” The Raptors were playing in their St. Patty’s Day green jerseys – which weren’t the most popular with the team. Chris Bosh described the threads as “wackness” and Anthony Parker said he “already registered a complaint.” Read More »
