Cavs, Celtics (almost) fight it out

Paul Pierce, Dime #5

The Celtics and Cavs are trying, but the NBA refuses to let us have a real physical, blood rivalry these days. Case in point: The foul that earned Big Baby a Flagrant-2 and an ejection in the third quarter would have been just a plain ol’ foul not too long ago — it was Cavs announcer/former buckets-dropper Austin Carr who said recently about hard fouls, “When I went to the basket, I expected that to happen.” In the middle of a close game that had a postseason atmosphere from the start, Big Baby took out Anderson Varejao with a high tackle that wasn’t THAT bad, and even the ensuing stand-and-stare “altercation” was kind of weak by old-school standards. The 10 best never-been All-Stars

Deron Williams (photo. Christian Kozowyck)

“I don’t care what nobody says, D-Will is an All-Star.”

That was Chris Paul at last month’s All-Star Media Day, when I asked him if he felt his natural rival, Deron Williams, should have been in Phoenix that weekend making his first All-Star appearance.

While I’ve been over where I think Deron’s zero All-Star nods puts him in the League’s PG hierarchy, I do agree with CP3 that Deron is an All-Star caliber player — he just doesn’t have an All-Star nod yet. In fact, of all the players in the League who have never been All-Stars, Deron tops the list. Here’s the rest of the Top 10 (rookies don’t count) Players To Which Jamaal Magloire Owes An Apology … Read More »

The 10 Hottest NBA Development League Standouts

_84963053.jpg

Now that James White (of legitimate free-throw line dunk contest fame) has taken the big leap from the D-League to the Houston Rockets, we’re on the lookout for the next D-Leaguer bound for the League. Check out these 10 guys who have been killing it as of late.

10. Jared Jordan – Everybody’s favorite Marist guard, Jared Jordan led the nation in assists in college, just under 9 per night. It seemed as though his dream of playing in the NBA was fading at the beginning of this season, when he finished December averaging 4.8 points and 4.2 assists. But he’s come on incredibly strong as of late, proving to be one of the best passers in the D-League. Read More »

Is It Safe to Call Sebastian Telfair a Bust?

Sebastian Telfair NBA1.jpg

A couple years ago, I covered a Knicks/Celtics game at MSG, back when the Celtics still stank and the Knicks were bad and boring. One of the story lines that night was the return of Boston PG Sebastian Telfair to New York, and his head-to-head matchup with big cousin Stephon Marbury. Read More »
