Freak Injury Taking Out Players

On Blazers.com, Mike Rice wrote a story a few years back titled, “The New Martell Webster.” After hearing this week that he’ll be out for the year, I’m more concerned with the old one. Read More »

Van Gundy Fires Back At Shaq

If you were a rolly-polly 5-8 guy, and one of the largest human beings on Earth just insulted you in every way imaginable, you’d probably respond just like Stan Van Gundy did. Read More »

Me and Stephon Wait for the Bus

Yesterday I was with the director of Harlem Heights, Michael McNamara of MC Filmworks, doing voice overs for the show when we decided to take a little break. During the break Michael proceeded to tell me about his son Brendan McNamara, who is also a film maker. Brendan, a comedian, started his company Fireball Films a while back and has been known for his hilarious youtube videos. Read More »

(Almost) Daily Fantasy – 3/5/09

Dwyane Wade continues to dominate the fantasy stats for the month of March. Last night’s performance? 35 points, 16 assists, and 6 boards (oh and he shot 62% from the field). Anytime he rests and sits out practice at this point is a good thing for owners. You want him healthy for games. Here are some quick hits for your Thursday. Read More »

Shaq on Van Gundy: “All the Players Hate Him”

The moral of this story is that accusations of “flopping” can really piss some people off.

Stan Van Gundy dug at Shaq for “flopping” on a Dwight Howard spin move, saying that he was “shocked, seriously, shocked.” Read More »

The Knicks’ Plan to Expose Mike Bibby

There’s a monster white board in the Knicks locker room – it wasn’t used in quite the same way last year under Isiah‘s reign – which always has Mike D’Antoni‘s most important keys to the game written in big, colorful letters.

When we walked in for pre-game interviews last night, there were a couple of one-liners that caught our eyes. The first of which was a little diagram of the painted area with “No Joe” written in there. More on that in a second.

Number two was “Bibby is struggling – keep him there.” And number three was, “As funny as it sounds – don’t let Pachulia make an impact.”

The Knicks accomplished all three things and won. Read More »

A Paul Pierce vs. Vince Carter Shootout

Paul Pierce

It’s nice when the Celtics’ stars can be humble, but really, forget all that “Rajon Rondo is the most important player on the team” stuff: Boston only goes as far as Paul Pierce takes them. Last night in Jersey—where a crowd heavy with NYC transplants was booing Stephon Marbury whenever he got the ball—Pierce engaged in a circa-2002 shootout with Vince Carter, which ended with The Truth eviscerating the Nets in crunch time … The Celtics were up 13 early in the fourth, as Doc kept Steph, House, Walker, Powe and Moore on the court for a good chunk of the quarter. But then VC hit a three, Devin Harris got some buckets, Jarvis Hayes dropped a triple, and the next thing you know, it’s tied with two and a half minutes to go. That’s when Pierce (31 pts, 12-14 FG) took over. Read More »

Chris Paul’s New Signature Kicks: CP3.II

One of the hottest trends in the sneakers game – especially for performance footwear – is taking cues from other sports. The Zoom Kobe IV was inspired by soccer players, who wear low tops, yet cut just as hard and just as sharply as basketball players do.

Similarly, the CP3.II takes a major cue from a game similar to soccer – futsal. Futsal is a five-on-five indoor soccer game, known for quick, agile cutting. The shoe has a couple of features, which allow for sharp cutting at high speeds without losing any footing. Read More »
