It’s the trading deadline in our league today and there are a whole lot of buyers and sellers. We’re in keeper league (three players) and we allow draft picks to be traded. In other words, it’s pandemonium in our league today. One important note to all you owners who are heavily in the mix – Look at the week by week schedule for the rest of the season. You don’t want to make a major deal for a player that only plays 2 or 3 games in your league’s finals (or maybe even our semi’s). Also, if you’re league goes into the final week of the NBA season be very careful about who you go after. Players like Duncan, Kobe, KG, Pierce, Ray, Ilgauskas, and even LeBron could play very limited minutes that week. That also goes for bad teams that will shut down marginally injured players, such as Kaman, Camby, any player on the Warriors or Kings, and even possibly someone like Danny Granger. Being that it’s lineup Monday, let’s get at it. Read More »
While everyone (including myself) feels that the Mavs got fleeced in that Devin Harris-for-Jason Kidd deal, during the third quarter of last night’s game against the Raptors, Kidd showed why he’ll be a first ballot Hall of Famer and Harris will not.
Although there are plenty of guards that can fill up the stat sheet a la Harris, Kidd became just the fourth player in NBA history to notch 10,000 career assists with his 15 dimes in the W.
That’s right. Joining Magic Johnson (10,141), Mark Jackson (10,334) and John Stockton (15,806), the 14-year veteran has finally reached elite status. Read More »
In Boston’s effort to quickly address holes in their roster, they immediately snared Mikki Moore off of waivers following the trade deadline. But maybe if they were more patient, they could have gotten a shot at a bigger frontcourt contributor.
Now, it looks like Drew Gooden will be available, as he reached a buyout agreement with the Kings, which will save them about $1.8 million, and allow him to move on to a contender. Cleveland is in the hunt, but all signs point to San Antonio picking up the veteran forward.

First, Shaq drops 45 points on Chris Bosh‘s cranium on Friday night. Then, CB4 throws up the biggest asterisk he can think of, complaining that the Diesel didn’t really crack him because he was actually “cheating.”
“He was just camping down in the lane,” Bosh said. “I mean, if they’re not calling three seconds – I thought it was a rule, but I guess not.”
Bosh should realize that you can’t go at O’Neal like that without him coming back with something much more clever (and more insulting) than the original comment. I’ve been laughing ever since reading the Diesel’s response.

The Suns are doing a more believable job of displaying multiple personalities than the chick from “United States of Tara.” Three days after getting cracked by the Lakers (sans Steve Nash and Amar’e), Phoenix shows up yesterday (still sans Nash and STAT) looking like a legit championship contender while withstanding one of Kobe’s best performances of the season … Protecting the ball and executing their stuff this time around, the Suns were up 10 at halftime, but then Kobe went off. He scored 17 points in the first six minutes of the third, roasting everybody from Matt Barnes to Jason Richardson to Grant Hill in the process. When the Lakers took the lead, J-Rich was complaining to the ref mid-play while Kobe (49 pts, 18-38 FG, 11 rebs) waited for him to finish, sized him up, then knifed past him and got an and-one over Shaq. After Kobe drained a three on L.A.’s next possession, Mark Jackson spoke on Mamba’s behalf: “You’re gonna dare me to be a shooter? Don’t you know my name? You know my work.” … You’d expect the Suns to fall apart at that moment, but Leandro Barbosa (22 pts) led them on a 21-6 run to get the lead right back and, by the end of the third, the Lakers were right back where they started with a double-digit deficit … Read More »
The $14 million salary helps, but after that, it’s too bad that the only thing Dwyane Wade will get out of this season is a third-place (maybe second) finish in the MVP voting and a first-round (even shakier maybe second) playoff exit. D-Wade has been killing himself trying to carry Miami past “long shot” status on the championship contender scale, and over the last week has been especially brilliant individually. Last Sunday he dropped 50 on the Magic in a loss, then put up 31 points and a career-high 16 assists against Detroit, and last night Wade posted 46 points, eight boards, 10 assists and three blocks while the Heat still barely edged out the Knicks … Miami as a team looked awful for the first three quarters, going into the fourth down 15 while making Nate Robinson (29 pts) look like Bow Wow after he found the shoes in Like Mike. But then Flash came to the rescue, dropping 15 points during a 19-0 run and 24 total for the quarter. Wade hit the go-ahead bucket on a pull-up J with about a minute left, then with Miami holding a one-point lead on their next possession, got to the rack basically uncontested—that’s New York defense for you—to throw down a two-hand dunk.
