R u serious. Stats, how about the all time ppg leader (tied with Wilt Chamberlin). He also is the record holder for consecutive years leading the L in scoring. He is the all-time playoff leader in scoring. 6 time finals MVP which no one else can say (not even Bill Russell). He never lost a NBa finals series in 6 attempts. He held the record for all-star game ppg and highest scoring game. Only person to win All-star MVP, Reg season MVP, Def player of the year in same season. You have to be pretty young to not know this stuff off the top of your head. You need to google him.

NBA Leading Scorer: 1986/87, 1987/88, 1988/89, 1989/90, 1990/91, 1991/92, 1992/93, 1995/96, 1996/97, 1997/98
Highest career PPG. That includes the shitty Washington seasons.
Highest career points per game average (playoffs): Michael Jordan (33.4)
Most career points (playoffs): Michael Jordan (5,987)
Most points in a game (playoffs): Michael Jordan (63, 4/20/1986 vs. Boston Celtics [2OT])
We could seriously go on and on with stats. And not even mention the rings, trophies, medals, and awards.
They should just call it the Michael Jordan Hall of Fame now.

i am not agreeing with amar @2, but let’s not jump the gun here. first off the dpoy award didn’t get awarded ’til the ‘82-’83 season. that was about 15 years after russell retired, and a handful of other players.
russell has 11 rings and won 8 in a row. he had an 11-1 record in the finals or 10-0 if you don’t count his first 2 trips.
russell has 5 nba mvp trophies jabbar has 6.
russell won the mvp, all-star mvp, and since they didn’t have the dpoy i bet we could say he was a contender.
so yeah mike was awesome and changed the game, but let’s not slap nba history and all the players in the face and call mike the goat. great and a once in a lifetime type player but let’s leave it at that not loosely throw out the goat title while there is still alot of nba going on.
there might be someone else who comes along and breaks all the records and wins 12 rings.
let’s not jump on the first pair of nuts we see.

You also forgot that there was maybe 8-10 teams in the league back then, Russell was one of the tallest at 6′9!!! which would make him a small forward in todays game. Russell = Kenyon Martin talent wise so please lets not go there. also, the Celts had like 8 other hall of fame players on those teams that won 8. I love the old school just as much as the next person, but don’t ever try to equate Russell’s era to Mikes Era. They may have been equally dominant in their times, but no way can Russell match his talent. And don’t try to pull that Most ring = best player crap, no one is putting Steve Kerr, Horace Grant, Robert Horry in these arguments. There were times were Russell wasn’t even Finals MVP. I love the guy but lets keep it real.

the guy was great but he wasn’t and isn’t the end all be all of basketball. to much history and great players in the game to throw it all aside for mike.
so chicagorilla, you are trying to tell me that russell would equate to about a marcus camby of today’s game. wow, you are definitely an idiot.
russell was playing against people with the name of chamberlain, west, robertson, unseld, reed, pettit. maybe you have heard of those guys?
but apparently to you those names mean nothing and russell wasn’t playing against any good talent.
wow, you just made yourself look like an ass.
i’m just trying to say that there is a lot of history and to up and say this guy should go into the hall alone and put him above the game and all the other players is just asinine.
i’m just trying to bring some rational thought to this comment board. i have now learned to never trust anything that chicagorilla says.

After all these years, the Gatorade jingle still rings a bell. Sometimes I dream that he is me……….I wanna be like Mike.
Can another player surpasses Jordan? Yes, he is out there somewhere, practicing. But in my mind, Jordan in his prime and you can count on it, will give you fits.
Count on Jordan to be competitive every single night. That is what I remember about the man.

What Mike did to the game, the business, the sport of basketball. Will be unmatched by anyone. Even if there is someone out there to outmatch MJ…it still won’t be, because that person will be considered…THE NEXT MJ. That’s how big Mike is.
And BTW, if I were to argue that anyone was better than MJ…I would go with Wilt before I go Russell. So Bill has rings, Wilt was still a better baller than him.

Why is Sanpitch hatin on MJ? Let the brotha keep shining because their will never be another Mike Jordan. The Jordan Rules era is gone but the memory lives on forever.
The best all time moment I had of MJ is when he carried the bulls to a 4-0 series over Zeke and the Bad boys and Zeke never even shook hands with MJ.
Whatever coach Phil wanted, whether it be points, steals, blocks, assist, shutting a man down on defense, and win championships, Jordan provided.
LBJ, KOBE, and D-WADE can all take a back seat to the GOAT because there is no replacing the man.
Oh yeah I read on here that “Jordan only lefts 28 years women on his legs” therefore, he won’t beat Magic and Co. right now. Despite Jordan not getting in Gym time, he would still show his pal Magic how them Carolina boys roll.

@sanpitch
“russell was playing against people with the name of chamberlain, west, robertson, unseld, reed, pettit. maybe you have heard of those guys”
West -6′4, Robertson 6′4, Unseld – 6′7, Reed 6′9, Pettit 6′8, Chamberlin 7′1. So there is one guy on that list who is taller than Bill Russell. And that guy killed Russell in head to head match-ups, but Russell had teams that were way better. Wilt probably avg like 40ppg and 20rpg against the Celts and Russell. The only problem was that the Celts were a loaded team (I wonder why?) and Wilt only had a few other players on his teams (the warriors/sixers). I am aware of the history of the game, but I am also a realist. With the talent Bill Russell had, he would be a Kenyon Martin in today’s game. MJ in today’s game…. would avg 40ppg (as he did in the 80’s with 37ppg and 35ppg but with hand checking and much more stellar defensive play.
never trust anything I say? Go check the facts playboy. I’m not pulling this from the wind. The only opinion I have shared so far is that I think Bill Russell is not nearly talented enough to be considered the greatest of all time. Oscar Robertson and Kareem have a better career numbers and talent. Wins is a great stat to judge a team by, but Wilt did not get to choose his teammates. Wilt led the L in assist one year just because HE WANTED TO! That is the only man who really has an argument when it comes to MJ being the goat. You clearly are on the stickiest of the icky, or sipping some syrup. Bill Russell??? stop letting NBAtv and ESPN tell you what to think. Come up with your own idiotic statements for once.
