Kanye West’s New NBA Playoff Spot
One of my favorite parts of the NBA Playoffs every year is the new TV spots that the NBA rolls out. This year, they took it to a whole new level as Kanye West is helping fans gear up for the postseason using his hit single “Amazing” as the soundtrack to some of the most incredible playoff performances of the past few years.

And I thought the NBA “Where ******** Happens” commercials couldn’t be any more Dork-Assed!

A whole new level? They threw a teenie bopper song on with some clips we have seen a hundred times before. Guess the
NBA hasn’t been on youtube in the past 8 years. worst nba spot I can remember.

I saw the headline “Kanye West’s Playoff Spot” and I figured he was demanding to be seeded in the playoffs himself in place of the Pistons.

res. says:
all of you complaining about it, why don’t you make a spot yourself if you are so good? And what clips do you want them to use?
What a joke some of you are.

Joe Johnson breaking Powe’s ankles…..AMAZING! LOL. That was the best part of the video. Didnt know JJ had handles like THAT!

GoEasy says:
I’m just saying cause most of the guys on here COULD make that ad. Who says you need to hash up clips to make a good ad anyways? Last years split face ads were aight, and Jeremy Piven’s TNT playoff add from a few years ago was tight and that showed very little actual game footage.

Wow… so much hating. Even if you don’t care much for Kanye, this is MUCH better than some of the recent “safe” artists the NBA chooses. Really, who here has Rob Thomas or Tom Petty in their playlists?
April 15th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
IGP says:
@ jussumguy
I agree, I don’t really like the safe choices, but I’m just not a big Kanye fan. Not saying he doesn’t have talent, but he anyone can sing when you use a computer instead of actual vocal, know what I’m sayin?

Kanye fan here. Dope spot. Gave me fucking chills. So lay off the haterade for just 3 mins guys and enjoy a very nice add.

baron boy says:
I disagree with a lot of you. This spot was actually really well synchronized with the song. It’s not supposed to really show the greatest moments in recent playoff history, it’s preparing you for the excitement of the playoffs: drums playing when the players are running to the floor, the crowed going nuts, Wade throwing the ball up in the air after a win, and near the end, everyone is popping champagne and going nuts after winning.
Hell, if you wanted more game play shots and dunks, go on youtube and find a mix tape for sean kemp

mr. A says:
hahaha this is actually pretty funny, because after seeing last week’s South Park, the one that post #1 was referring to, I went out and did a parody of this amazing song, aptly called Gay Fish hahah.
I dont want to seem like a spammer, but if you want to check it out hit up http://www.myspace.com/ngewgs and it should be the first track that plays. If not, go through the music playing box thingy and find it.
But yeah, that was the only reason that I found this commercial entertaining at all. KanYe is lame and thus, so is this commercial.

@Dime Magazine
This has nothing to do with this video or post but I’ve heard that John Wall may be eligible for this years draft being that he is a 5th year senior. Any more to this?

i can’t figure out the nba on this one, weren’t they supposed to stay away for hip hop, to please they white fan base ?
Is Kanye west still considered hip hop anyway…
April 15th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
that's whats up says:
regardless, that video got me so hyped up for the playoffs.
Only three more days to go…….
April 15th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
mr. A says:
#16,
KanYe and every other major rapper might SAY they’re repping the hood still or whatever, but they & their labels only care about the suburban teenage market, which consists of well-off parents giving their kids money to go buy CDs. More “white” Americans listen to hip hop these days than “black” Americans.

April 15th, 2009 at 2:06 pm

@19,
please dont call us honkies. black people don’t like the “n word,” and we don’t like the word “cracker,” or “honky.”

love the highlights, just wish they had someone other than kanye.
hell of a lot better than we have had in the past. just wish they had some highlights of every team in the playoffs, but i guess not all were in it last year.

DurrtyInjun says:
Haven’t liked what Kanye been putting out a few years now, but have to agree the synchronization was on point. Props to the video editor.
As to the question about John Wall being eligible, I am pretty sure the rule is 19 AND one year out of HS for American players regardless of age. I think for foreign players they just gotta be 19. If he thought he was really ready, I could see him challenging the rule based on this double standard.
April 15th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
srb says:
they sure pulled some nice clips, but that song isn’t very good. so what if it has the perfect word in it? that doesn’t make it the perfect song to use for a commercial.
like someone else said though it did get me excited for the playoffs, so i guess it did its job.

nerditry says:
@Mr. A : You’ll be the world’s first white person to be offended by the word honkey or cracker. From the rest of us, quit your bitchin.
And who here can even picture Kanye lacing up some high tops that aren’t $500 and covered in komodo dragon leather and gold lace tips? Dude is the Mark Madsen of Team Blouses.

IGP says:
It’s funny, I’m white, and I don’t really get offended by the words cracker or honky, but if a person who wasn’t white called me that, would I be justified in calling that person a derogatory term? I think I would not be justified, but it’s still an interesting debate.
On a side note, I actually like that we sometimes (key word here sometimes) get into these debates here at Dime.
April 15th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Mr. A says:
@nerditry
actually, sir, the term “cracker” gets its origins from the fact that slaves owners used to “crack” their whips at black slaves. I surely don’t want to be associated with such behavior – slavery was one of the darkest moments in the history of America, including our enslavement of Japanese in internment camps during WWII. So, yeah, I’m offended by that. You should be, too. I can’t call a black person the n-word, but he can call me the c-word?
and “honky?” what the fuck is that shit? I’m not a clown with a nose that makes a honking sound, why would I want to be called that at all? I have name!
I’m the first white person to be offended by being called DEROGATORY names? can i see some facts to back that claim up?
